Giving back to the local community as JR Plumbing & Heating has grown is one of the factors that’s helped this Buckinghamshire-based company take the title this month.
Chilly village halls, junior football teams and vulnerable customers have all recently benefited from JR Plumbing & Heating’s generosity and customer focus.
Reacting to the win, co-director Loren Radwell said: ‘Everyone is really pleased. We all work really hard, from the admin staff to the engineers. We have to put a lot of time into the business, so it’s a great boost for everyone.’

Going from strength to strength
Heating engineer James Radwell had been self-employed for more than 10 years, building up a reputation in his local area, before forming a limited company in 2016 and beginning to expand.
As the firm grew, his wife Loren joined full time and they decided to sign up to Trusted Traders a year ago, celebrating with specially themed cupcakes.
Loren told us: ‘We’d already established a good reputation within our local community and the business was going from strength to strength.’
‘We wanted to be recognised more widely for the hard work we were putting in, so Which? Trusted Traders was the logical next step.’
While Loren manages the office-based side of the business, James is in the field with the engineers. ‘James still works alongside everyone, installing boilers, to keep the standards high,’ Loren said. ‘The regular customers really like it.’

Supporting the community
Our judges were impressed by James and Loren’s efforts to support their local community and more vulnerable customers.
‘During winter we get a lot of emergencies,’ Loren explained. ‘We always try to keep an engineer spare so we can jump on those, especially to help vulnerable customers, such as the elderly and people with small children.’
Earlier this year, the company started sponsoring a local youth football team to enable them to buy new kit, and did work at a reduced rate for local community groups.
‘The local scouts needed new heating, so we did that for no profit, and the same for the village hall. We try to give back to the community,’ Loren said.
Boiler bonanza
JR Plumbing & Heating is a Worcester Bosch Accredited Installer and recently achieved platinum status. To celebrate, James decided to run a competition to install the company’s 100th boiler of the year free of charge.
‘We never dreamed we would become platinum,’ Loren explained. ‘James just wanted to give something back to the community and share the joy. Customers were really excited about it and it created a nice energy for our whole team.’
Winning customer Barbara Turner (pictured above) was thrilled to win back the cost of her installation when her boiler had to be replaced during freezing weather.
