As well as flights and hotels, global brand Expedia can help arrange car hire worldwide.
Expedia is a solid option for car rentals but its lack of clarity on extra charges lets it down.
If you want to see how Expedia measures up to its rivals, read our best and worst car hire brokers page.
Car Hire Broker | Which? Recommended Provider? | Customer Score |
---|---|---|
Expedia | No | 73% |
Customer score combines overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend. N/A means not enough responses to calculate that category.
Expedia received a solid customer score of 73%, with four-star ratings in five out of seven categories. However, this is only good enough to put it fourth out of the six brokers we compared.
Customers were happy with its ‘good range of cars and companies for car hire’ as well as a process deemed ‘quick and easy’ by several others.
However, Expedia only scored a mediocre three stars for its clarity of extra charges. One customer told us ‘There was very little transparency about what the final, total cost was likely to be. It ended up being almost double the cost quoted by Expedia.’ Another said ‘When it came to the final bill I was charged an additional £90. I had to go through my visa card company to retrieve the extra charges.’
Most were pleased with Expedia on the whole though, with one loyal customer telling us they ‘have used Expedia several times and not been disappointed’.
Expedia’s wide choice of vehicles and providers make it worth a search, but the lack of transparency on extra charges is cause for concern. Which? Recommended Provider, Zest Car Rental is a safer option.
