According to Electrical Safety First, 80 million domestic accidents happen every year. Many of these accidents lead to serious injuries or property damage. Apparently Saturday around 6:30pm is the most dangerous time for domestic accidents.
Risks that many people take in their home include overloading sockets and attempting to fix appliances that are still plugged in. The majority of accidents occur in the kitchen however hair-straightener burns in the bedroom and drilling through hallway wires are also fairly common.
Electricity accounted for 350,000 serious injuries in the last year and house fires caused nearly £1 billion in damages.
The Electrical Safety First campaign highlights how important it is to hire registered electricians and tradespeople who are qualified to undertake domestic works and repairs.
