Independent Dryrot advice that saved £1000s

I was very pleased with the service I received from CJS. The survey was in relation to getting some independent advice in regards to dry rot and damp, following huge quotes from Dry rot 'specialists'. The surveyor that carried out the work was happy to take time and explain what he was doing, the causes and possible remedy. The inspection was very thorough and the accompanying report was comprehensive with photographs, explanation and recommendations in relation to problems identified. Even though there was dry rot and some damp, that needs to be addressed it was not to the degree that the 'specialist' companies had suggested, so this survey saved us lots of money. I would recommend this company; it provided a very professional and prompt service

Craig surveyed my house for damp and condensation in April and it was great value for the outcome. Not only did I get a really helpful and informative report but he also was very helpful and considerate in answering any queries both at the time and with a subsequent query. I felt reassured by his opinion and information.

I used this firm (trading as CJS Specialist Buildling Surveyors) in August 2013. It was money well spent. I knew that I had damp in a wall in my lounge but needed to know how it was getting in and what needed doing. Deciding to spend money on a specialist's report was the best decision I could have made. (A damp proofing contractor had told me that I had rising damp and told me I needed to have works to treat this). Craig Shepherd was able to demonstrate clearly that this was not the case (it would have been a waste of money that only hid the problem). His work was thorough and he also showed that I had significant wet rot to the end of a joist, some floorboard rot and woodworm in the floor. He presented a written report, with photos, telling me what steps I needed to take to remedy this. I later decided to use a company he had used to undertake the works and am very pleased with the work. This was money well spent and I would advise anyone with damp problem queries to get an independent survey as a first step.

I had a problem with water damage at my home. Craig attended punctually at a convenient time and ran tests to determine the extent of the problem and eliminate rising damp as a cause. Craig provided excellent advice in an unhurried and easily comprehensible manner. His fee was money well spent.

We had an urgent need to get advice about some damp patches that had appeared suddenly in a flat we were having decorated - there were decorators working in the flat and tenants waiting to move in. We wanted a building surveyor rather than someone specialising in damp who may feel inclined to push the problem towards the damp proof course, something we have found to our cost in the past. Craig was able to fit us in at short notice. He gave us a very detailed but easy to understand description of the likely causes of the problem and the work we should get undertaken to resolve them. He explained what we should ensure is covered in the quote and the things to be aware of when reviewing the quotes. He was able to explain and indeed show us why the problem could not be rising damp. Craig comes across as knowing his stuff and the tips regarding the work to fix the problem showed a good practical understanding of building work. He also said we were free to ring him and discuss any follow up issue over the phone. We were very pleased with his survey and the advice he gave us, we would recommend his work and we will use him again should we need a surveyor in the future.
