Our front door lock suddenly ceased to function on Christmas night. We were able to get the door secured under emergency insurance cover. This trader agreed to come and fix the lock. He came promptly, but we feel that the work was not as good as we would have wished & that we were charged far too much, starting with a callout charge of £70. The door is Everest aluminium framed (now out of guarantee, but in excellent condition). The bolting system was very difficult to remove & took some time but the bottom of the door was damaged in the process. We were informed that the lock was "obsolete" & that he would try to get a replacement as soon as the suppliers reopened after the holidays. He did get a replacement part, sent his joiner who installed it. We now have a deadlock, not a 2/3 bolting system; and this has implications for our insurance. Maybe that was the best that could be done, but an unitemised bill for £305 (including the £70 callout charge) seems excessive to us & we are left with a feeling of having been ripped off.
