We asked more than 6,000 people who bought carpet for their homes in the past five years what they think of the carpet shops they bought from.
Our survey respondents told us about their overall satisfaction with each carpet shop, plus how they rated the retailer's carpet range and quality, delivery service and value for money.

Best places to buy carpet
The table below reveals customer scores and star ratings for 12 carpet shops, including big brands Carpetright, John Lewis, Online Carpets and Tapi.
The top-performing carpet shop achieved a customer score of 81% and five stars for value for money, while the retailer at the bottom of the table scored a mediocre 65% overall.
Respondents who used independent retailers scored them on the same measures, so you can compare results for independents against big brands.

Below, we've outlined some basic information about each carpet shop to help you make your choice. But even more important is whether they offer a great purchasing experience.

- B&Q – With carpet prices starting from as little as £3 per square metre, home improvement store B&Q offers a range of carpets and underlay as well as many other flooring options.
- Carpet Giant – This flooring specialist has seven stores in London and the south east of England, or you can buy online. Prices range from £4.99 per square metre for a basic loop carpet up to nearly £100 for premium woven or velvet carpets.
- Carpetright – One of the largest carpet retailers in the UK, with more than 300 stores nationwide, Carpetright stocks a selection of own-brand carpets as well as popular carpet brands such as Brintons and Westex. Find out more on our dedicated Carpetright brand review.
- Carpet Warehouse – This retailer is online-only, so there are no stores where you can browse options before you buy, but you can order up to four free samples. Prices range from £6.99 to £45 per square metre.
- Carpets Direct – Carpet prices from this online retailer range £6.99 up to £80.00 per square metre. It also sells wood and laminate flooring
- Carpets4Less – This bargain-focused factory outlet franchise sells room-sized remnants alongside carpet roll stock. You can't browse or buy online, so you'll need to visit one of its 21 stores to check what's on offer and make a purchase.
- John Lewis – John Lewis: stocks a variety of carpet brands, including Brintons and Westex, as well as its own range. Prices start from £19.99 per square metre for an own-brand twist carpet. Head to our dedicated John Lewis carpets brand page to find out more about it as a carpet shop.
- Online Carpets – This online-only retailer claims to 'provide the best choice of flooring, at the cheapest prices online'. Prices start from £3.49 per square metre for a basic carpet. Online Carpets offers free samples to compensate for not being able to check out your options in store, and free delivery on orders above £99.
- Tapi – Popular retailer Tapi has experienced significant expansion in recent years and now has more than 165 stores nationwide.
- ScS – Better-known for its sofa collection, this retailer stocks popular branded carpets such as Associated Weavers and Victoria Carpets as well as its own Signature collection.
- United Carpets and Beds – With more than 55 stores nationwide, this popular retailer sells carpets and other flooring types. Prices start at around £4 per square metre.
- Wilsons Carpets – As a regional independent retailer, 54-year-old Wilsons Carpets also offers a price promise. Its carpets start at £4 per square metre and its luxury carpets start from £10.

The customer scores are based on how satisfied people are with their carpet retailer overall, and whether or not they’d recommend it.
In November 2021 we surveyed 6,381 people who had bought carpet in the past five years and asked about their experiences.
