Amazon Prime Video review

Amazon Prime Video is available either as a standalone service, or a component of Amazon Prime – but how does it stack up against other services, such as Netflix?

Amazon prime on tv

Amazon Prime Video is likely to appeal to those who regularly shop using Amazon especially as it's supplied as part of an Amazon Prime subscription.

Some of the content is top notch - its original series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, won Golden Globe awards and Primetime Emmys in both 2018 and 2019, for example - while another of its series - The Boys - was nominated for five Emmys in 2021. However, it doesn't have the same variety of content as Netflix and Now TV. Read on to find out whether it will suit you.

See 'How to watch Amazon Prime Video on your TV' to find out what devices you can enjoy Amazon content on in the home.

How to watch Amazon Prime Video on your TV

Amazon Prime is often available as a dedicated app on smart TVs, including those from Sony, Samsung, LG and Toshiba. You can usually access it from the main menu on your TV.

But not having a smart TV doesn’t mean you can’t watch on your TV – there is an array of devices you can use to turn your standard TV into a smart one, including Amazon's own Fire TV device, or you can watch through a web browser on your computer. Find out more using our guide to the best streamer or internet TV box.

What to watch on Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video offers a range of content spanning both film and television, from classic to current. Original Amazon content includes The Boys, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Underground Railroad and more.

However, Amazon Prime Video has a smaller library than some of its rivals, such as Netflix. And some of the more up-to-date titles you'll find on its interface have to be bought outside of the cost of your core subscription.
