I had recently been informed, by a Rics Surveyor, that a wall in my house was damp and I needed to contact a Damp Surveyor to find out what was going on. From my first communication to Biocraftsouthwest I have received excellent service. The Surveyor (CSRT/CSWW) came to see me within a week and whilst carrying out the survey explained everything to me. I decided to go ahead with having a Damp Proof Course renewed and, felt the quote for the work to be very acceptable. An agreed time for the work to be carried out and completed was met. The Biocraftsouthwest workforce made this work as easy as possible for me. They were friendly, efficient, and very tidy. Clint oversaw all work and took time to arrive before any worker I had not met before to introduce him which was very reassuring for a woman living alone. Clint has a very high standard of workmanship and, indeed, requested every small detail to be perfected by his workers. Nothing is too much trouble for Biocraft Southwest whether in the office or on the job. Upon completion of the work Clint and the Office Manager, Lauretta, have reassured me that if I have further questions do not hesitate to contact them. Excellent service and highly recommend having your damp problems in the hands of Biocraft Southwest.

We contracted Biocraft to deal with rising damp on an internal wall, and then asked them to fit additional insulation elsewhere. The initial survey was very thorough and both the damp issue and the solution was explained in understandable terms and yet in the detail required to comprehend the scale and depth of the work. We were kept fully informed, by phone and email as to when the team would arrive, and this close contact continued throughout the programme. The building team were helpful and always cleared up after each day. They sought advice if required. The work was checked by the project manager regularly and adjustments made as necessary. We felt fully engaged throughout the process. It was a lengthy project - around 5 weeks - as the plaster had to dry which takes longer with a membrane fitted. But the aspect that stood out was first class customer service and engagement. We felt part of the process, we were involved in every decision and the options were clearly explained to us. It was a pleasure to work with the entire team. I would not hesitate to use Biocraft again.

Poor service, Poor Communication, Would absolutely not recommend......

I commissioned Biocraft to undertake rectification of a rising damp issue in my small kitchen. To be clear Biocraft did resolve the rising damp issue. However, the service provided fell well short of expectation. Firstly the project time and cost over ran considerably, this was down to a number of issues: 1. The project was poorly managed with little / no communication between trades. 2. Availability of trades to complete the task was poor - the plasterer went off sick and there was no alternative available so the project stalled - with the boiler removed this caused major disruption. 3. Trades were critical of the project management and each other, didn't appear to know what was expected. 4. Communication from the project lead (incidentally a director of the business) was adversarial with no acceptance or understanding of accountability. 5. Trades did not communicate with each other resulting in additional work and expenditure - by way of example two kitchen units were removed - the plasterer was not told the dimensions / thickness required to refit the units. Subsequently the units would not fit back resulting in re-modelling and replacement units being required at our cost. I would not recommend Biocraft, in fact i would suggest you go anywhere other than Biocraft. The only element of the work that we felt was completed to a high standard was the reinstatement of the boiler.

A Which? Trusted Traders staff member replied on behalf of the trader (on 21/02/2022)
We were, of course, sorry to hear that the customer was dissatisfied with the service received from the company, and we acknowledged this customer’s complaint following the completion of works in June 2021. In response to the complaint regarding project time scales, we always advise our clients that time scales are estimated to the best of our ability, but may be subject to changes which are beyond our control. In this instance, the client also initiated changes to the schedule based upon their own preferences/plans, which we accommodated fully. Unfortunately, some disruption can only be expected due to the nature of the works involved, however the boiler was not delayed, but, in fact, reinstated as per projected timescales. We would also reiterate that some aspects of the remedial treatment process require us to leave the project in order to comply with necessary drying times, and this was fully communicated to the client prior to the work commencing. We do acknowledge that we experienced some staff absences whilst this project was underway, which were, unfortunately out of our control. We did apologise to the client for any delay caused by this and tried our best to cover the absence. Unfortunately, we were unable to source immediate cover and we understand the frustration felt by the client. We can only emphasise that it was a very difficult time in the construction industry with the ongoing pandemic situation, particularly with regards to the availability of tradespeople. As a company we continue to assess the suitability of all tradespeople who we employ and have made changes to our team and processes where appropriate or necessary, based in part from client feedback. We are disappointed to hear that the client was not satisfied with communication, as our project manager was in regular contact with the client, both visiting the site in person and over the telephone. Emails were responded to promptly and in detail, and our quotations and information regarding the works were detailed and transparent. In response to the complaint regarding the necessary replacement of kitchen units, as explained to the client, this was not due to poor communication, but actually due to the fact that a minimum render/plaster thickness must be applied to ensure that the remedial treatment is compliant with industry standards in order to ensure effectiveness. Unfortunately, in this case, the existing kitchen unit was subsequently too large to fit back into the replastered space. In order to avoid any additional cost to the client, we primarily attempted to modify the existing unit, however this was not possible due to space required for internal features. We clearly explain in our job specification, that whilst we endeavour to reinstall existing units following treatment, this is not always possible for a number of potential reasons, and sometimes replacement items are required. Nevertheless, as a gesture of goodwill to the client, we still contributed 50% of the cost of the replacement. We are proud of the service which we offer our customers and are fully committed to ensuring that our works are completed to the highest standard.

Woodworm treatment in loft

We asked Biocraft to complete a survey of our loft as we suspected we had an infestation of woodworm in our timbers. We were provided with a prompt and comprehensive quote for the treatment of the woodworm and the process of treatment was clearly explained along with copies of sample guarantees and their terms and conditions. We also requested that Biocraft carried out some remedial works post-treatment. It was good to have the option to clear the existing plasterwork and remove the floorboards prior to treating ourselves, as this was something we were happy to do and saved us some money. Communication was very good from start to finish. The treatment of the timbers was completed successfully and on schedule. The remedial plasterwork was completed to a good standard however the plasterer did let the team down by not tidying up after himself. Unfortunately, we only discovered this later that night. A quick call to Biocraft outside of normal office hours and they arranged for one of the team to return first thing the following morning to clean up. Biocraft was very apologetic and dealt with the issue professionally. Overall we were very impressed with the quality of the work undertaken and the high standard of customer service delivered by the team. More than happy to recommend it to others.

Wordworm treatment

Following a phoned inquiry Biocraft Southwest sent a surveyor to assess the treatment required to the rafters of my garage. The survey was carried out and I received a detailed quotation. The cost of the survey was included in the bill. The work was agreed and price/time/date arranged. I received an email a week before the due date to explain there could be a possible delay because the person scheduled for the work was ill and may not be able to work that day (9th July). I received a further email to explain that a different person could be allocated to the job - it was then completed a couple of days (7th July) earlier than originally planned.

Clint the surveyor came out and did some tests to see if I had a leak or rising damp. I did have a leak, so the guys came in wrapped my furniture up and covered my flooring in thick plastic so not to damage it. They removed the plaster and rendering, put a damp proof course in. They were professional, reliable, helpful and on time. They finished the work which was overseen by Clint. I am very happy with the result and thoroughly recommend them for a good, clean job well done.

I have required several pieces of damproofing work in my property over the last 10 years, and have used different contractors each time. The work recently completed by Biocraft was by far the highest quality. They provided a detailed and clear quotation, after a careful inspection, and outlined several options to remedy the issue (a damp bedroom wall). The work was completely in a timely way, at a reasonable price, and I was impressed by the courtesy and attention to detail of all the staff. Happy to recommend!

Biocraft are an excellent company if you own an old victorian building with damp and mould issues. In 2017 they damp proofed my entire Kitchen wall and this year they installed two Positive Input Ventilation systems into my flat. One into the cellar and one throughout the flat. The Surveyor, Clint was excellent, very professional and reliable and always sorted out the issues I faced. Very clean and tidy work. Highly recommended. You won't get this level of service anywhere else. Impressed. Humidity levels are now reduced and you can tell the difference with cleaner, fresher air. Well done Clint and Biocraft 👏👏
