Having had the AA out to our car not starting We were told faulty battery or steering lock immobiliser On getting the car back costing £240 it said on the messages maintenance due which we’d had done months previously and it broke down in 3 days . I was not confident with this garage I Was then advised to take my car to the dealership to have the diagnostic test done They found all the readings had been deleted and shouldn’t have been

The trader replied (on 19/10/2023)
Thank you for taking time to write a review and we’re sorry to hear that we have fallen short of expectations on your recent visit. We are well known for our high standards and we take all feedback seriously. To this end, this has been fully investigated and outlined below. The vehicle arrived as an AA breakdown with a suspected sensor or steering issue. The customer came to us as her regular mechanic was on holiday. On arrival the battery was flat, so it was fully charged to allow for testing to be completed. Diagnostics were then carried out, reset, lubricated, and fully tested and the vehicle didn’t fault again. The diagnostic codes were reset. This is the same course of action a main dealer would take once the fault is rectified. The customer was advised to monitor the vehicle and should the fault return, it would require a steering lock mechanism as detailed on the invoice. The customer left happy. The car failed again and the customer was advised to return as had been recommended previously. The car did not arrive. Any codes cleared from this breakdown will have been from the AA or her regular mechanic as we did not see the car again. A maintenance light illuminates when regular servicing is due. Our Technician noted this on the invoice. The vehicle should be returned to her regular mechanic to reset it. It is not unusual for these to become out of sync. For safety, we would only reset a maintenance light once we have completed the service.

Redbourn solutions have gone above and beyond in helping me with my car. In the past I have had bad experiences at garages and I get so put off by taking my car to different places. My first impression of them was very good, they picked up the car for me and took it into the garage. They were so helpful and kept me in the loop all the time. My car issues were not easy but they worked so hard and I can't thank them enough. Thank you again for restoring my faith. They are a decent, trustworthy and reliable garage. I will not be using any other again.

I first came across the firm when Ian was at a stall at a Harpenden festival, supporting the local community. I asked for some advice about a car I had purchased, they could not have been more patient and helpful and so I switched from my existing mainstream dealership to Redbourn Auto Solutions. They are excellent, helpful, friendly and very competent. Also I trust their judgement implicitly. I have used them for 4 years now and I intend to keep that going for many years. Very happy to write this review - they did not ask me to and do not know I am doing it. Simply wanted to share it after another really positive experience today. Dr K Lee

Redbourn Auto Solutions are not like any garage I have been to before. Their customer service is unbeatable and they have rescued me on more than one occasion. I trust them entirely and they are very highly regarded amongst the villagers and further afield. I am so glad we have them on our doorstep.

Poor advice, untrustworthy

We used this garage to replace one of our tyres after a puncture. I found the Ian, the owner, and his team to be untrustworthy and misleading in both their discussion with my wife and with me. Specifically they: a) Advised us of the minimum legal requirements but did not advise us of the manufacturers and AA/RAC guidance having matching brands/tread-patterns on tyres across an axle. I asked why they had not done this, they said that they could not supply a matching tyre and so why would they advise us of something that might mean we would take the vehicle elsewhere. b) When I asked (over the phone) for the manufacturer and model of the tyre that had been removed they said they couldn't read it off the tyre. When I visited the workshop and asked to see the tyre, the labeling was clearly visible. c) When I complained they offered me a £20 partial refund against the tyre they had fitted - promising to pop it in the post. This never arrived. I would avoid this garage unless you know exactly what you need to have done and do not need their advice.

A Which? Trusted Traders staff member replied on behalf of the trader (on 11/02/2016)
Thank you for your feedback via Which? We have built the business on trust and honesty and take all complaints very seriously. We have taken time to look into your case and find as follows. This customer made a ‘distress call’ on 6 February 2015 to say that she had a flat tyre and needed to go somewhere that afternoon. We pride ourselves on excelling in customer service and although we do not usually conduct a recovery service, we felt that this was an exceptional case. The car was recovered and the tyre checked for repair. The customer was called and informed that the tyre was irreparable and there was no stock availability from our supplier on the same branded winter tyre. (These are notoriously hard to source at the end of Winter). A fully inclusive price was quoted and an alternative brand was agreed and fitted. This was a legal tyre matching the radial tread of the others. In fact, this is exactly as described by the AA/RAC. She was also advised that the car should not have winter tyres on the front of the car and summer ones on the rear as this is dangerously compromises performance and safety of the car. This is nicely demonstrated in this Michelin video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cBSWEhimdA The car was delivered back to her home. No charge was made for this additional service. Whether the tyre was or was not legible is not relevant as we had already explained to our customer that an exact match was not available. We are an incredibly busy garage and therefore if they wanted to pursue an alternative supplier, they would have been welcome to, but this was not what the customer wanted. She wanted her car back quickly and without hassle to enable her to go out. This is the service that was delivered. Within a week of the fitting, the husband of the customer made two visits to the garage after hours, and we felt they were aggressive on both occasions. Although we had gone over and above to help his wife who was happy with the service she had received, he was unrelenting in disgruntled behavior. He was offered a gesture of good will of £20 but was disparaging of the offer. It is regrettable that this didn’t arrive with the customer safely, and, as they have now moved, we are unable to issue a replacement. However, this will be honored on their next visit.
Prompt and professional.

I was recommended this garage by a close friend who drives an hour to it. He first went there after being lied to by another garage, Redbourn got his car through mot for 1/3 of anywhere else. They never 'invent' repairs which aren't needed. I have brought my car an hour to get here, the service, friendliness & truth are worth every mile.
