Table notes: Based on responses of 2,966 Which? members and members of the public who reported on their experience of buying fitted bedroom furniture in the past 10 years (starred metrics rated in the past two years). Survey conducted online in May 2022. Customer score is a combined score based on customer ratings of satisfaction with their furniture and likelihood of recommending the brand to a friend.

Ikea durability ratings

As well as asking our readers to rate their wardrobe for durability, we also asked them to report whether it showed any sign of damage or wear and tear.

Across the brands, an average of 18% of consumers reported that they've experienced problems with their doors and 17% reported that their furniture required repairs.

Ikea delivery service rating

Moving on from the quality of the furniture itself, we also asked our consumers to tell us about their experience with their furniture delivery.

The vast majority (80%) of our respondents waited less than two months for their furniture and 33% waited less than two weeks.

In addition, 67% reported having no issues with their delivery. The most common problems were the delivery being rearranged several times by the brand (10%), some parts becoming unavailable after ordering (9%) and some parts being missing at delivery (8%).

Ikea installation service rating

The quality of your furniture installation is almost as important as the furniture itself.

Fortunately, only 33% of consumers had issues with their installation, with the most common problems being delays (12%), the furniture not fitting properly (10%) and extra work being required, leading to extra costs (8%).

Ikea doesn't offer an installation service. Instead, it has partnered with a site called Taskrabbit, which connects you with tradespeople in your area so you can find someone to install your furniture.

Arguably this means that your experience could vary more, but we still collected ratings in order to understand the average users' experience.

Ikea built-in wardrobe systems

Ikea fitted wardrobe white doors

Ikea doesn't technically make a fitted wardrobe, but two of its wardrobe systems can be configured to make them fitted.

The systems are:

  • Platsa a system of pre-designed modules that can be assembled to make a fitted wardrobe.
  • Pax the wardrobe that most closely resembles standard fitted wardrobes. Choose your frames, interior storage options, and doors and handles (see Ikea's how to guide).

For Pax, there are plenty of different types of storage options to choose from. These include: hooks, rails, drawers, shelves, dividers, pull-out trays, dedicated shoe storage, removable boxes, jewellery organisers, trouser hangers and plenty more.

Does Ikea offer a fitted wardrobe service?

Yes. Ikea has both an in-store and online design service. However, it won't send a designer out to visit your home, so you'll need to measure the space yourself.

If you want to design your wardrobe yourself, it has a comprehensive online planning tool for both ranges.

Can you install your own Ikea fitted furniture?

Yes. Ikea's furniture is designed to be easy to build, so even novice DIY enthusiasts can assemble their products.

Ikea fitted wardrobe guarantee

Ikea offers a fairly standard 10-year guarantee on its Pax/Komplement wardrobes and Skytta doors.

It isn't clear whether this policy covers other ranges, though.

We also couldn't find a guarantee for its installation service, probably because it's offered in conjunction with Taskrabbit. This means that you may not be covered against issues arising from the installation of your wardrobe.
