What is a QR code and how can it help your business?

A QR code is a type of barcode that can be scanned with a smartphone camera. It takes the user to a specific web address, or URL. It’s a sure-fire way of getting customers, who may not be particularly tech-savvy, straight onto your website.

You’ll have seen them used recently by businesses across the country, particularly pubs and restaurants, to get people to their Covid-19 Track & Trace information or online menus to avoid using paper ones during the pandemic.

If you’re a Which? Trusted Trader, you can use the same technology to get your customers straight to your profile page to leave a review.

If you're not yet a part of our scheme and would like to benefit from tailored advice from our expert team, find out how to become a Which? Trusted Trader.

Why are customer reviews so important?

Online reviews are the new word of mouth, and you can guarantee that any future customers will read them to get a better understanding of your business before picking up the phone.

If your customers have been satisfied with your service, a good review can be a really valuable way to attract new business, which is why it’s so important to boost your Which? Trusted Traders profile with reviews.

Most Trusted Traders ask customers to leave them an online review at the end of a completed job, either by providing them with our ‘How Did We Measure Up’ card or by sending them a profile page link via an email or text.

We understand that when you’re busy, it can be difficult to find the time to ask for customers to leave the feedback. This is why we have been trialling the use of QR codes.

How to get a QR code for your business

With a quick Google search, you’ll find easy-to-use QR code generators online for free. Once you’ve entered the URL of your Which? Trusted Traders profile page, you’ll get a downloadable image file that you can then attach to your documents.
The best place to add a QR code directing your customers to your review page is on the paperwork left with customers after a job. This could be on the corner of your invoice or warranty information, for example.

Make sure you make it clear in the information surrounding the QR code that hovering over it will take the reader to leave you a review.

It’s worth also including a web address on your paperwork to give both options to your customers. That way, you’re making it as easy as possible for them to find your profile page and increase the number of reviews you collect.

If you’d like help getting set up with a QR code, or would like more ideas on where to put the code or what to write alongside it to encourage people to use it, please give your account manager a call on 01174566110 and we will be able to set one up for you.
