Hi, I'm James Tutton. After serving in the British Army, I started Chelmsford Removals in 2007. What began with just an ad and a single van has grown substantially over 17 years. Now, we're a key player in home and commercial moves within the region.

Our company holds accreditation from the British Association of Removers and is a Which? Trusted Trader. We were also honoured with the Essex Business Excellence Award for Best Growing Small Business. We were so pleased with the service from Chelmsford removals, Dan(2) John and Terry worked so hard all day, taking care with each item. They were just brilliant, very polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They worked so well as a team and made us laugh a lot! Despite not getting the keys until 4pm they still worked on till late, we have no hesitation in recommending this brilliant company! Lucy in the office was also very good in organising the day.

Chelmsford Removals assured me they could move my gym equipment with everything else. They turned up without the tools to dismantle my treadmill and I had to knock on neighbours doors to borrow a socket set. After moving house they left the power lead to the treadmill broken on the garage floor hidden under other items. When I eventually discovered this and got round to buying a new lead I found that the treadmill no longer works. It was not put back together properly and tested as you would expect. When I visited Chelmsford Removals to tell them all this they were not interested in the slightest telling me that their insurance only covers you for 1 week after the move and they can do nothing about it. I wish I had never used them and had chosen a company that knew what they were doing moving my gym equipment. They also seemed more interested in getting everything moved as quickly as possible rather than taking great care and making sure everything is right.

Dear Mr Thomas We are sorry that you have felt the need to leave this feedback regarding your removal, tainting our otherwise near perfect Which? feedback history. We feel that it is important that you and other prospective movers see our response. After the move was carried out (on the 12th and 13th May 2016), you left feedback on the job sheet to say ‘Excellent team, very polite and courteous. Super speedy and helpful. Thank you to all’. You also ticked to say that you would recommend our services. We therefore feel that this review is misleading; as at the point the move was completed you were very happy with our services. If you had contacted us within the 7 day period following the removal we would have happily dealt with your insurance claim. We understand that the team did not have the correct tools, but all treadmills are different, and if your neighbour had not supplied a socket set for the team to use, they would have overcome this in another way. Unfortunately we are unable to process an insurance claim for this, as it has been 9 months since the removal was carried out, and we cannot insure your goods indefinitely. Our terms and conditions are approved by trading standards, and we also go one step further by highlighting the time limit for notification of claims to the customer on the acceptance form at the point of the quotation (paragraph 58). We will be contacting Which? directly to highlight what we feel is an inaccurate and unfair review.

Organised removal of home at short notice, packers were efficient, clean and tidy (floor coverings laid). Kept me updated on actions throughout their progress. Introduced themselves and indicated their role on the team. Helped make a difficult time easier!
