Required some tidying up of garage electrics and a new distribution board for the house. Dave responded promptly and provided a detailed quotation. Timescale for completion was agreed and all the work was done on schedule and to a high standard. Every phase of the work was explained to me and afterwards all the certification etc was received within a couple of days. Would definitely recommend and have already been in contact to arrange some further work.

We’re repeat customers of Day and Knight, having had them complete some remedial work on our new house in 2023. We first used Dave and Scotty when our newly installed shower stopped working. We knew our electrics were very dodgy as the old guy who lived here before thought he could bodge everything! Had a bit of a shock when we were shown just how close we came to having the bungalow catch fire. Originally Dave suggested that a review of what work would be needed to bring the wiring up to safety standards and also change the fuse board and bring it inside. This was the cheapest option but we decided to go for a full rewire, but I thought it was really good that we weren't pushed into this option. We had a comprehensive quote and accepted this. A date agreed and on the dot of 7.45am 19 Sept 2023 the work started. Three and a half days later all the wiring was completed and safe. We decided to sort out the plastering and decorating ourselves but we were given details of contractors that were recommended. All told, a brilliant job done in a friendly, professional manner. Dave even came back to replace an outside light that we thought was a bit too bright and bought his dog to meet our dog Moli!

I needed a Zappi car charger installed, and an Optimmersion controller replaced by an Eddi, to work with my existing solar installation. Dave came and reviewed the work, and recommended the replacement of my consumer unit rather than an add on. This made sense as it actually improved the installation (RCBO's to replace a single RCD, and surge protection). On installation day, checked out the whole house for safety before starting and found a minor issue which was also fixed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend if anyone needs work doing, and the products (Zappi, Eddi) that they install work great for my needs.

Fitting of Hive Hub, Thermostat and Receiver to existing system

I had received a Hive Hub, Thermostat & Receiver for Christmas and I needed to have them fitted. I contacted Dave, whom I have used before, and we agreed when he would visit, he arrived on time to look at what I wanted doing, made suggestions and a few hours afterwards e-mailed me a copy of the quotation. I accepted the quote and a Date / Time was agreed for when the work was to be carried out. On the morning of the day the work was to be carried out I received a call from Dave asking if they could come a few hours earlier than agreed, this suited me, so I agreed. Dave & Scott arrived on time and carried out the work specified, however it was noticed during the installation that the current cylinder thermostat was quite old and was not earthed so a new one was obtained and fitted. I now also now have a new Wiring Station fitted and I am now quite pleased both with the work carried out and also the fact that I can now control the heating more easily. I would certainly recommend Dave and his company to anyone who needs a reliable electrician in the Stafford area.

We are having an electric shower and hob and needed new circuits to these. Our existing fuse board was old and we had not had an electrical inspection for several years. We live in a barn conversion with a few bits of damp. Day and Knight first did an electrical inspection which identifies a couple of sockets needed replacing and mounting proud of the wall and old power outlets to be removed. The new fuse box was then installed and other minor electrical work with existing wiring undertaken. A route for the new circuits was identified and a mutually convenient date agreed for that to be installed. The second visit saw an armoured cable installed round the garden wall to provide power via a second fuse box to near where the new units were to go. Two days of work. Very tidy and pragmatic calling on a lot of experience. Paperwork followed immediately after job. Would use again.

We contacted David after moving to the area in 2016 to have our wiring inspected after buying a property. His fair pricing, friendly demeanor and ability to keep us informed of what we need to be safe/legal as well as extra frills meant we've called him back multiple times now to address our electrical needs. Day and Knight carried out an upgrade of the electrics including replacement of the consumer unit, partial rewire and upgrade of the earthing system. We became aware of them when they carried out extensive works at a property nearby. We noted that they were NIC EIC registered and further enquiry established they were Which? recommended traders. We first utilised their services for a full electrical survey on a property we were purchasing and were impressed with the quality of their report. Following completion of purchase we asked them to proceed with the upgrade on the basis of their detailed estimate. We found Dave, the principal, to be very professional, thorough and always prepared to discuss and explain his work and our suggestions/requests. The work was completed in two days and now presents a tidy appearance compared to the situation we found on purchase. Also we are now confident of the safety of the installation. We have no hesitation in recommending Day and Knight.

At the end of the day and it's normally involves upgrading the fuse board but not always and I will talk you through everything and why it would need to be changed or upgraded so you're not wasting your money on stuff you don't understand or need.

Emergency electrical repairs to my house after a lightning strike

I have used Dave Knight for electrical installations on my house extension where I have been very happy with his work and professional attitude and very reasonable bills. I returned from holiday on Saturday to find that while away my house had been hit by a lightning strike which had disabled my alarm and stopped my oven and hob working. I contacted Dave by text on Sunday and he came the next day being Monday and tested the appliances and discovered that my house had no surge protection device and that the burglar alarm had burnt out and the power surge had disabled my oven and hob. He checked the connections were safe so I could get the kitchen supplier to inspect the oven and hob. The next day being Tuesday Dave installed a surge protection device. This is fantastic service from Dave. His bills for this emergency work were very reasonable. I am continuing to use Dave for other electrical works on my house as my extension is yet to be completed. It is refreshing to use a professional electrician who clearly enjoys his work and helping customers with their electrical problems. I recommend Dave to anyone who needs assistance with their electrical problems.

We phoned David on Monday to arrange for additional electrics sockets to be installed, he arranged to call back on a facetime call at 5pm on Wednesday and gave us a quote. We emailed back later on Wednesday agreeing the quote. On Thursday morning he called to ask if ok to install electrics sockets in one hour, so initial contact to job completed in less than four days. David completed the job in approximately one hour at the agreed price, is a tidy worker and cleared up afterwards. I am very impressed by Day and Knight's service. All the work done to my house and my new extension was done with care and thoughtfulness. Mr Knight made several suggestions during the works as to the location of new sockets and lights which were very helpful and which I agreed to. Mr Knight uncovered several electrical problems in the house which were done many years ago by previous contractors which he rectified quickly and efficiently. I had a few questions during the electrical works which Mr Knight answered promptly and professionally. He had all the parts and wires etc needed for the work he was doing in his van. He spent 2 days this week at my house carrying out the latest phase of electrical works to my house and new extension, having carried out previously the initial phase of electrical works. He will be returning to carry out the next phase of electrical works when my extension is nearer completion. I have owned several houses in the past and used several electrical contractors and Mr Knight is the best electrician I have used. I would recommend him to anyone wanting electrical works to be carried out at their property.

Found the socket for the washing machine in what was the'granny flat' was faulty. Used 'Which' Trusted Traders for the first time and chose 'Day & Knight' as they were relatively near. Due to pressure of work, Dave Knight couldn't attend for a week. Arrived promptly at appointment time. Initial task was to change the socket box and the moulded plug on the washing machine. A full inspection of the electrical systems for the house was then carried out. A number of faults were ascertained and remedied. The consumer unit was clearly re-labelled and a plan of which sockets, lights etc related to with RCD. The work was very thorough and efficiently carried out Time taken approx. 4 hours. I have no hesitation in stating that this firm would be our 'go to' firm for all future electrical work we may require.

From complete rewires to replacement fuse boards or quick, 10-minute jobs, David is your man. He has done other work for us in the past and we have been very happy with his work but he came to our rescue quickly today after a faulty extension lead took out power to the whole house. Thankfully the RCD on the fuse board he fitted a few years ago did its job and meant the only damage was a slightly melted plug and a damaged socket. Both were quickly replaced and power restored. The lights in my parents bathroom weren't working so I contacted Dave to arrange for him to come out and repair them. The job comprised the removal of 2 light fittings in what was a kitchen and the installation of 10 ceiling spot lights for what will be a lounge/dining room, and the removal and re-siting of various wall sockets. David has previously re-wired the entire house and we had no hesitation in asking him to do the current work. He is very efficient, prompt and takes the time to make sure you know exactly where you want things to go. Mess is minimal and cleared away, electrical certificates are e-mailed the next day. A problem re-setting one of the lights some while after (damage that we caused) was sorted the next day without any fuss. Honest (doesn't recommend/charge for unnecessary work). Reliable - turns up as arranged. Very clean and tidy - wears overshoes so no dirty carpets! Comprehensive and easy to understand quote. Realistic pricing. Excellent standard of work. Easy to relate to and understand. I used Dave initially as I was having a garage converted and he was highly recommended by the very trusted builder. He was careful to make sure that he had a full understanding of what I needed, made some suggestions, at my request, and quickly provided a comprehensive quote so I was able to make an informed decision on precisely what he was providing and the FULL cost without hidden extras. Dave liaised with the builder and turned up when he said he would (big bonus), he was very efficient and worked well with the other tradesmen (essential to keep everyone working). I was very impressed with Dave so I asked him to do an electrical safety check. He explained his findings with regards to a couple of issues not meeting current regulations and what the implications were but as they were not "dangerous" I opted to have one of the issues remedied but left the plastic fusebox. Dave is now my default setting and if you are looking for a highly professional yet competitively priced, trustworthy, reliable and very likeable electrician then I can highly recommend Dave (Day & Knight). Dave and his team were here for 2 days, worked very hard indeed, with good humour and were very particular about tidiness - frequently vacuuming areas in which they were working. We couldn't have asked for a more competent and professional level of service. They were very caring as well, ensuring the minimum of disruption and very considerate with regard to our particular needs, given that one of us has significant disabilities. The fee charged was very reasonable, particularly considering Dave had to rectify some bodged work from previous so-called 'electricians'! Dave came to our house this week to fit a new consumer unit and did a fantastic job. I am usually quite wary about contractors in the house but I had no concerns at all with Dave. Totally trustworthy and a really nice guy as well - even if the jokes are a little 'corny' sometimes. I was working in the kitchen last evening when there was an explosion and all the lights went out. I am in my eighties and caring for my disabled husband. I needed the light urgently. After several phone calls the next day I managed to speak to Dave and he said he could come out about 4:00pm. He then rang back to say he could come out right away. He did a wonderful job.

An excellent electrician, and one I wouldn't hesitate in contracting for a job again. Likewise, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone who needs electrical work to be done in the Staffordshire area. Always on time, very clean, courteous, well mannered and a thoroughly decent guy! Very passionate about his job and electricals and give him half a chance, and he'll reel off the latest technology regarding LED light bulbs! This demonstrates his passion and his knowledge for his work. Also, over £1000 cheaper than the next cheapest quote I obtained from a competitor. Does everything by the book and cuts no corners. A credit to his profession and we feel rather lucky to have met him as we no longer need to search for anyone to do any further electrical work for us!

Pleased with work carried out and raised several points on my electrics which have now been sorted out. This makes me feel much safer about all my electrics in my home now. One suggestion. I would make it some kind of over shoe protection as he carries out his work as he goes from room to room, especially in bad weather as your carpets certainly need protecting. My alarm engineer always does this.

The problematic outside security lights were assessed two weeks ago, a quote given and an available date for the work to be carried out, August 13th. The due date came and so did the contractor. The work was carried out in a competent and professional manner, tested and signed off. As a bonus, a problem on our burglar alarm was diagnosed and fixed before the contractor left.

When I recently bought a property in North Wales, I contacted David Knight to check over the electrics in the house, including all the storage heaters.
