We are still discovering issues with the fitting of our kitchen and utility, months after Heron Carpentry left. Poor cuts/drilling, alignment issues, corner posts incorrectly fitted with units overlapping, holes drilled in the wrong place on our new fridge door, doors put on the wrong way around, poorly fitted sinks with packers left on show, damaged units and panels. See photographs on Google reviews (under ‘Heroes Carpentry’). I have spent a considerable amount of time and money trying to correct some of the above. Many of these issues were discussed with Gerry at the time and he did cover the cost of replacing three doors that were put on the wrong way. We didn’t ask Heron Carpentry back to complete the remaining work quoted for. I don’t like posting negative reviews but we have been so disappointed with the quality of workmanship and relied on the 5 star reviews when choosing Heron Carpentry.

Gerry his fitters were excellent & very helpful at absorbing extra work at short notice. Gerry communicated well though his final invoice was confusing compared with his quotations. Most unfortunately the plumber Gerry recommend started well but fell apart at sink installation, series of leaks meant 2 more visits, so job unnecessarily prolonged.

We had Gerry and Dan build a coat cupboard and storage dining bench in our newly refurbished house. Gerry also hung several reclaimed doors for us. We are very happy with the work. Gerry and Dan were respectful of our home, including that we had to work while they were there, and most importantly, they always shut the door so the dogs didn't run out! Gerry worked with us on the design of the pieces being built eg the shape of the shelves and adding ventilation to the bench to allow airflow for electrical equipment being kept in it. He was always accommodating of our bespoke requirements. This was especially true with the reclaimed doors, which threw some curve balls given they weren't pristine and Gerry adapted the doorframes to make it work. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Gerry was a pleasure to work with. We needed a bespoke cupboard fitted to hide our boiler and he came over to assess what we wanted and gave great advice. He was communicative, helpful, efficient and produced great work. I wouldn't hesitate to book him again for another carpentry job.

We used Heron to replace an integrated fridge and freezer with cupboard space, and construct some additional cupboard space and shelving around a new American style fridge freezer. Work was quoted a 3 months ahead, and was started and completed on expected dates within £100 of quoted price (there was small adjustment to materials cost). Very professional and courteous service throughout, and we're very pleased with the result! Have already recommended to a neighbour needing some similar work done.

Gerry fitted our Howdens kitchen for us and did a fantastic job. His work was all of a high standard and he is very trustworthy. Gerry was really flexible in his working hours, staying quite late one evening to ensure that we had running water in the kitchen over the weekend. We are so pleased with the work and would definitely use him again. We would highly recommend Gerry.

There was a mains water leak which caused extensive damage to several rooms. Mr Heron assessed the problems thoroughly, and organised a team to get the repairs done on time. I would rely on his company again for the professional attitude to their work. They are unusually outstanding - a rarity.

This is the second time we've used Heron for a major project and again they have exceeded our expectations. Our reno's have been complicated by non-standard and imported fixtures and concepts-Gerry listened to what we wanted to achieve, suggested alternative methods when appropriate, worked with the materials supplied and the end result is better than we ever could have imagined. Heron fitted exterior and interior tiled floors for us and then installed a beautiful kitchen. Throughout the whole process everyone involved had a great attitude, worked professionally and I cannot say how much I appreciate the work that they have done. Hired Gerry a month ago to change 10 internal doors and handles and we were so pleased with them, we decided to re-board our loft. Gerry is very courteous and helpful and tidied all the items in the middle of decorating and when Gerry saw we had some heavy furniture that needed moving, he and Dan moved them for us. I would not hesitate to recommend Heron Carpentry and would use them for any future requirements.

I have worked with numerous tradesmen over the past year during our renovation of a Victorian townhouse, and Gerry was a breath of fresh air. During the quoting process, he was very responsive in his communications and provided an estimate within one week of coming to see the works in question. Gerry even returned to give us a new quote nearly a year after the first one (delays on our part). Once work commenced, Gerry was on time every single day and worked non-stop whilst on site. He was tidy, friendly, and respectful. His work was excellent, and he was amenable to all sorts of challenges and problem solving. Gerry did small jobs (fixing some window trim, changed some skirting, re-hung door stops) as well as big jobs (made 4-built in units for the lounge, made a shelving unit for a utility closet, and boarded out our whole loft storage space), all of which were done to a very high standard. We felt that his costs were on par if not slightly better than other carpenters we have met during our renovation process, and the end result was a feeling of good value for money. I only wish I had engaged Gerry to fit my kitchen as well - will do next time!

Having used Heron Carpentry previously, I didn’t hesitate to make contact for the kitchen and bathroom refits in an apartment. The work was commenced and completed to schedule and to an excellent standard. Gerry was helpful throughout and kept us informed of any issues, offered solutions as well as useful advice during the fitting. The flat was left clean and tidy at the end of each day. Gerry designed and built a bookcase, media unit and storage cupboard for our new house. He was responsive, efficient and friendly. The work was completed on time and to budget. One month on the work looks great and we haven’t noticed any problems. Several people have commented on the high standard of the work and we are very pleased with it. Additionally Gerry is also training a young apprentice and it’s great to see someone taking an interest in educating the next generation. We would definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone looking for similar work in their property.

Disappointed, didn't turn up
I arranged with Gerry for him to come a give a quote for a cabin bed. He didn't turn up and when I contacted him an hour after the agreed time to ask if he was still coming, he never replied. Perhaps he wasn't that interested in the job, but it wouldn't have taken much to politely reply or cancel. I've waited a week to give him time before writing this review.

We chose Gerry to install our new bathroom which had been designed and supplied by Rouse Bathrooms of West Wickham. Gerry completed the work to his usual high standard. He kept us informed of progress throughout and co ordinated other trades to complete specialist tasks. He created the minimum amount of mess possible and cleaned up each evening. Ours is an old house which presented unexpected issues which Gerry dealt with confidently and without fuss. Variations to the original quote were discussed and agreed. It is a pleasure having Gerry and Daniel in the house. The finished bathroom combines great design by Rouse with high quality installation by Gerry and his team of contractors. This is the third time Gerry has worked in our house and he is now our first choice for work in our home.

Gerry is good guy. He is a pleasure to deal with, listens well and stays in full contact at all times. His suggestions are very helpful and I appreciated his input at all stages of my project to refurbish and update my entrance hall, stairway and landing. This included a new oak front door and sidelight, an internal door, glass and oak balustrade, replacement loft hatch, architraves and skirting boards; I employed him to do some smaller jobs around the house at the same time and it all looks fab. Gerry was forthcoming with helpful and practical solutions to assist with what was quite a big deal for me. His work is excellent and tidy and he can recommend other excellent trades people if needed. An oversight on his invoice was easily and quickly rectified and I already have Gerry on board for a similar project on my lounge next year which will require built in under stairs storage. So pleased!

Gerry renovated our open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen area over two weeks while we were on holiday. Leading up to the work Gerry was regularly in contact and very responsive. Quotes were provided promptly and clearly. Gerry excellently managed the renovation process, and kept us updated on progress while we were away. On a number of occasions Gerry was very flexible with his time, even over weekends, and put in huge effort to deliver the project on time for when we returned. The contractors Gerry brought in (eg. Tiler, electrician) were of very good quality also. Gerry and his team were friendly and professional throughout. Many thanks to Heron for an excellent job!

Gerry was recommended to us by a friend and I would happily recommend him to any of my friends. His work was top class and as agreed on the quote. I had new steel installed to correct a sloping floor, which involved removing half of my kitchen and then reinstalling and finishing off back to a plaster level. Every day Gerry tidied up and turned up as promised. I can’t fault the quality of the work from Gerry and his co-workers. He was probably the best trader I have ever had in my house to carry out works and I can safely walk on the floor above without it dipping or creaking anymore! I had to wait a little while for Gerry to fit me in but a good workman will be busy and worth the wait.
