About
In 1955, my father Herbert Barker founded H Barker & Son, a local building contractor based in Bury, Lancashire. At the age of 21, I became a partner in what has become a trusted, reliable business that has been established for over 50 years. Now known as J&C Barker Builders Ltd, the values of the business remain the same: choice, value & high quality workmanship you can depend on.
Based in Bury, Lancashire, I cover a radius of approx. 25-30 miles, and further depending on the nature/duration of the job.

Rear extension in removal/replacement of rendering

Jim was recently called in to quote, and subsequently carrying out the total removal of very defective wall rendering (pebble-dash type) from our rear extension, previously created about 20 years ago which was now falling away from the walls. He completed this difficult work assignment to perfection leaving the wall a very impressive Tyrolean type finish on completion, and the patio area totally cleaned up. Highly recommended - a very competent and conscientious builder.

Jim came round quickly to assess the damage to our kitchen ceiling caused by a burst and gave us a very fair quote. He is very professional and turned up on the arranged date to do the work which he did to a great standard. He cleared up all the debris and took it with him. Wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

Mr Barker came to my home to inspect the work I needed to be done. He then sent me a written quotation, which I accepted. One of the jobs I had asked him to do was very, very difficult. He made no complaints and the end result was fantastic. I was also extremely pleased with all of the work carried out and completed in the four days stated. I will certainly use him in any future work I need to be done and recommend him to anyone who is looking for an excellent and reliable builder.

Jim responded quickly to our initial enquiry providing detailed quotes for a number of jobs, i.e. repointing the back wall of house, replacing and repairing guttering etc. After accepting the quotes Jim gave us plenty of notice when the work would start and roughly how long the job would take. The start of the job coincided with some atrocious weather but this didn't deter Jim, strong brews throughout the day seemed to be all the motivation he needed. At the end of each day he left everything clean and tidy hosing down the patio and clearing away all the debris. In regards to his workmanship it was second to none, a thoroughly professional builder which I would have no hesitation in recommending.

Mr Barker responded to my initial enquiry very promptly and arranged to visit the site the following day. A very pleasant, mannerly, thoroughly professional man, he dispenses good impartial advice, is expert and is upfront about costs before proceeding. The house roofs have never had such a thorough clean and repair with additional preventive measures against damp. Mr Barker is such a tidy worker who leaves the site neater than when he came! Always busy, I hope Mr Barker will keep me on his list of customers in the future. I thank him so much.
