About

In 1955, my father Herbert Barker founded H Barker & Son, a local building contractor based in Bury, Lancashire. At the age of 21, I became a partner in what has become a trusted, reliable business that has been established for over 50 years. Now known as J&C Barker Builders Ltd, the values of the business remain the same: choice, value & high quality workmanship you can depend on.

Based in Bury, Lancashire, I cover a radius of approx. 25-30 miles, and further depending on the nature/duration of the job.

I used Jim to replace a faulty lintel over a lounge window and make good the damaged interior plasterwork. I was extremely satisfied with the job. He was always very punctual and the quality of his workmanship was first class. he is clearly an experienced builder who knows his trade; importantly he kept me fully appraised of the options and progress at every stage. Once again 'Which Local' recommendations have proved to very reliable

Jim recently demolished an old concrete retaining wall and some steps leading to a greenhouse and built a new brick retaining wall and steps. He did an excellent job and is soon to do another job for me. Highly recommended.

Recommendation for Mr Barker came from Which? Local. Jim recently completed exterior repair work to a high standard and in the foulest weather. He is careful, punctual and tidy but not cheap. You get what you pay for. I would use him again.

We wanted the door into the lounge moving farther down the hallway in order to open up the room. Jim completed the job with a high standard of workmanship and we were pleased with the result.

Contacted Jim after finding him on Which Local. Came round quickly, discussed our needs and gave us detailed written quote. Did great job - raising airbricks, new grid linked into drainage system and some internal plastering and external brickwork too. Very skilled and tidy. A true time served craftsman. No hesitation in recommending him.

Work involved double glazed windows and also some roof work to stop water coming inside the front bedroom. Very good worker, very conscientious and arrived on the day and time agreed. Impressed with his high standard and would use and recommend to others. Thank you.

I have had two jobs done by Jim, the first being installation of a new window in an exterior wall and the second the installation of a french window replacement. He has a wealth of experience and works mainly on his own. His work is of a very high standard with a meticulous attention to detail. He is conscientious and fully trustworthy. I have no hesitation in recommending him for any job which requires high building and woodworking skills acheived through many successful years in the trade.
