Since opening over 25 years ago we have always provided our customers a choice to take their vehicles to an affordable, yet highly qualified independent service centre based in South Somerset.

I phoned J Day at 8am 10/11/2025 to report my car Audi Allroad TDi A4 Quattro would not start they arrived at my house at 8.25am jump started it and returnded to their garage. They replaced my old battery with a new battery, also kept me informed regarding the cost and returned my car to my house in Stalbridge at 2.15pm. I think you would agree that is an excellent service. Thats more than half the cost Audi Yeovil wanted and they wanted 2 days to get the battery.

I have used the business several times over the past few years: repair fender- bender damage, need new tyres, MOT etc. The quality of service is nothing short of first rate!!!! The staff are always friendly and courteous.

Attention to detail
Impressive work yet again from the J Day Engineering Team! I find it so reassuring to take my 2004 Audi TT to J Day - the mechanics spent hours making it roadworthy after I bought it in Autumn 2004 for £1,000. J Day have just completed its second Full Annual Service and they took time to explain what had been done and what may need to be done in the future. Approachable, informative, helpful. They appear to work with passion and it drives like a dream. Thanks for all the hard work!

Suprise visit with punctured tyre

I visited J Days out of the blue with a punctured tyre on my car and they bent over backwards to get me back on the road as soon as they could. I didn't even need to get down on my knees and beg, and I am so very grateful to the guys who are always as helpful as possible to each customers unique situation. Also the bill was more than reasonable and the service recieved better than I could have dreamed! A very happy customer.

As usual, the staff were friendly and helpful when I arrived. The service was done competently, as was the MOT. And my unexpected (to them) request to collect the car early to travel to an appointment was met with time to spare. I can't recommend this company highly enough.

We have been using J Day Engineering for quite a few years for a range of cars from modern saloons to older type Defender to classic cars and the service has always been excellent and very helpful indeed when we have ebbs in a mess with cars and we have had other complicating issues. This week I left my house keys and key ring for another car on the counter by mistake and they kindly dropped them round - the person lives nearby.

Unscheduled tyre replacement

Just heading off to work, I managed to find a screw with my tyre sidewall less than a mile from home. AA suggested a couple of places 10 miles away, but I thought I'd check with JDAY, as they're within 4. Not only did they have a suitable tyre on the shelf, thanks to a cancellation (which they called me back regarding) they fitted me in immediately! Speedy replacement and a very considerate team!

The air conditioning system in my Mini Countryman Cooper SD was no longer functioning. J Day quickly discovered the issue, and my vehicle was repaired one week later with a new air conditioning radiator and recharge. The works only took one morning, causing me minimal inconvenience. As always, I was very pleased with J Day’s work.

Recently had our car serviced and everything carried out competently and professional. However one point I was slightly aggrevied with was on the price originally quoted before the service and the price(s) detailed on the final invoice. In two weeks between quote and work carried out I'm not a 100% sure a price increase of 10 to 20% on oil, pollen and oil filters can be justified or perhaps the inaccuracies on the original quotation was the problem. Perhaps more price accuracy on the quote would be more helpful and less of a suprise when the bill is presented.

I am sorry to hear that there was any disappointment in your visit. Very occasionally we do encounter this scenario and whilst it is rare I would like to offer some mitigation. 1) The creation of an estimate is actually done in the front of house and allows us to choose prefilled details such as oil quantities and viscosities, there could be a disparity in these costs, we have also recently changed lubricant suppliers and have suffered a few inaccuracies. 2) Also we sometimes have found that suppliers have a speciality deal on some brands of filtration etc Unless we build the job directly from our estimate we can (and annoyingly do) sometimes not acquire parts from the same supplier that provided the parts estimate. We are working on a strategy to eradicate this scenario. If you would like to pop in I would happily reimburse you for any differences you have observed between our estimate and invoice.
