In just one day Jim took out our broken Baxi system boiler, fitted a new Ideal Vogue 26 System boiler, which heats up the house quickly and efficiently, and balanced the radiators. In the same day he sorted out the warranty and the building regs certificate. I cannot praise him too highly for his work. We now have a warm house! I strongly recommend him to anyone in the Exeter area who needs a new boiler fitted.

Jim and the team installed a new boiler system. Jim was very thorough in his assessment of what was required, and explained things clearly. This took 2 days and commenced as scheduled. Overall, the installation of the new boiler is good. However, they left behind a lot of waste, for instance several plastic pipes, the old tank in the loft and various pieces of pipe insulation. I was not expecting this, I was told it was only cardboard which would have been left. This has left an extra job for me to sort, and was below expectations.

I am surprised to receive this review. If you look at all my other reviews you will see that they after exemplary. In my original quotation to you I specifically put in writing that I cannot dispose of general waste and cardboard as this would be classed as commercial waste and that I would have to levy a charge. Most customers are happy to dispose of the bit of extra waste to save the waste disposal charge. You did not indicate that you were unhappy to dispose of waste when accepting my quotation. I did confirm to the lady of the house that it was difficult to empty the cold water storage cistern given the amount of water left in it. Normally the cisterns are left to dry out and then can be cut up and removed which I am more than happy to do for you. I did confirm this whilst I was there. The lady of the house did compliment my team on how tidy we were. "You have left it tidier than when you got here" were her actual words. I look forward to being of assistance. Jim Mercer Mts heating

I am giving 5 stars for all steps of their job. They replaced my whole system boiler with a wireless control combi boiler. This included new gas piping from the gas meeter. Punctuality from the first day. 12h and the whole job was done. They worked with care about your carpet and all property. They took all unnecessary, dismounted parts with them. They sealed and plugged all holes in the wall and left very my house very clean. Really recommended this service, very professional with knowledge about the job they do. For sure will be used them again for my yearly boiler service.

We chose Jim and his team to undertake the work because he gave us a very good summary of what the work would entail in our 3 bed flat with immersion heater. He answered all our questions on his initial visit and provided a comprehensive written summary with his estimate. He arrived with two colleagues on the agreed date and worked into the early evening to complete the task with what proved to require some tricky problem solving. He got on with the the job efficiently and was self sufficient in managing the project. All the team were considerate of the available space in our flat and of the other occupants in the block - they even rescued a fallen baby seagull which was causing concern for other residents. The boiler was commissioned the next day and we were given very comprehensive instructions about using all related equipment. Thank you Jim and team

We had a full boiler change, which required the gas feed pipe to be updated right through the building. I was not looking forward to it as it became a much bigger job than anticipated, but was reassured by Jim that it was work he undertakes all the time. The work was carried out to plan and pretty much to budget ( there were a few things that needed updating as it was a very old system). We have used it all over the winter and it's not missed a beat so very pleased.

I contacted MTS Plumbing and Heating Services after noticing a leak from my heating system. I was naturally very concerned that this could rapidly lead to more serious problems. I was already aware that the ageing gas boiler would need replacement in the foreseeable future. Jim visited my home on 14 February; he thoroughly assessed the problem, and fully discussed the options available to me. He then promptly provided an estimate for the work we had discussed. From my conversations with Jim, I would have been very happy to engage MTS to carry out the work. The fact that I appointed an alternative installer was not based primarily on cost, but on my personal circumstances at the time. Thank you for your help, Jim.

We needed to replace our 25 yr old boiler. Jim came out to quote and straight away went through the Trusted Traders scheme that he was a member of. I was impressed with his professional approach and felt confident this was someone I could trust to get the job done. He discussed the various options and what could be achieved and then he recommended the solution that would best fit our needs. A detailed written quote was emailed over very quickly. He followed up with a phone call a few days later to make sure the quote had been received and checked if there were any questions. A couple of weeks later I emailed Jim with a go ahead to do the job. He responded quickly and booked us in On the day on installation his team all turned up promptly at 8.30am as agreed. Meanwhile I already phoned to request he fit a new heated towel rail That I'd bought for the kitchen, which he agreed to for a very reasonable price. Everything went to plan until it came to refilling the system with fresh water - Unforeseen issues with the poor quality of our existing pipe work gave Jim a challenge that he thought through and overcame. Very impressed. Everything was left clean and tidy and he explained clearly how it all operated. The price was as we'd agreed. Excellent value and service

A Mixergy water tank and new rads

We employed Jim to install new radiators throughout our 1990s bungalow and to replace our old hot water tank with a new Mixergy cylinder. Jim impressed us with his knowledge and evident expertise from the first meeting. He discussed the work, made copious notes and soon provided us with a very detailed quote. Once agreed, he booked us in with a definite date – and stuck to it (so different from our experience with other people). On the job, Jim arrived on time with his team, got down to work and they put in over an eight hour day on both occasions. The jobs were fiddly, for example, our radiator pipework was microbore and fixed into a concrete floor. Also, it was the first time Jim had fitted a Mixergy tank in situ (he is an ‘approved’ installer), so this job was also a challenge. We were extremely pleased with the finished results for both projects. We would not hesitate to recommend Jim. He turns up on time, does what he says he is going to do, takes pride in his work, is a considerate and tidy worker and - what we really appreciated - he communicates brilliantly! Jim always responds to calls, texts etc. and, if you leave a message, will phone you back practically immediately. This is such a refreshing change! We know Jim goes ‘over and above’ to ensure his clients are warm and content. Jim is not only an excellent plumbing and heating engineer – he is a true gent. Thanks Jim!

I was given advice on which Combi Boilers were suitable to replace my old one, I didn't feel pressured and was given clear reasons for choosing the boiler that was installed. The work was carried out at the time agreed and finished well within the day, having arrived at the agreed time. I was given advice on what might happen as the system settled (causing the pressure in the boiler to drop) so was not worried when the boiler failed to light, I was able to quickly and easily resolve the issue, so is working well now. The price quoted was very good and had no last minute addon's, I was pleased with the service given and work done, I'm happy to recommend this company.

I highly recommend MTS Plumbing Services of Exeter. A twenty five year old boiler had to be removed and a new boiler repositioned elsewhere in my kitchen in order to vent on to my property (not a neighbour’s) and so comply with current regulations. Many problems arose during the job as my house is ancient and so is much of the plumbing, but Jim Mercer solved them as they arose. He kept me informed and explained exactly what was happening and what had to be done. He did an excellent job and is certainly an expert when it comes to central heating systems. I was looking for a plumber for two months before I found Jim. Most of the plumbers were busy for weeks ahead or didn't turn up, or the price they wanted was sky-high. I called Jim on Wednesday afternoon, when the working day was over, he answered the phone and told me when he would come. A day later he was in front of my door at the exact time. He gave us a quotation and arranged a date when the work would have been done. Jim did a brilliant job, he didn't stop till he finished the work and checked everything a few times before he left. We had a leak from our old indirect hot water cylinder and Jim came out the same day we contacted him. He was very informative with our questions about changing to a direct hot water cylinder and we decided to change systems. Cannot recommend MTS highly enough, Jim fitted a new boiler but also had the extra hassle of taking up the bedroom floor because when the old boiler was fitted the plumber used pipework that was too small and had to be replaced. The job was originally scheduled for 2 days but Jim came with his mate and did it in one. Fantastic service and a smashing couple of guys, wouldn't use anybody else now.

I found MTS plumbing services through a plumbing supplier, after contacting Jim he promptly came around to discuss the work to be done. We decided the best location for the Vaillant combi boiler, and Jim explained in great and thorough detail so that i could fully understand. I found this very helpful, he gave me a quote for the work and we fixed the date of the install. On the day of the install Jim arrived on time and explained fully the order of the work to be carried out. Each day he arrived on time, worked hard to a very high standard being very thoughtful in keeping us fully informed to the work he aimed to complete each day. On completion of the work he thoroughly checked for leaks fixed all ones from the original install, he explained the running of the new boiler and completed the paperwork. We are very pleased with the high standard of work done and are very happy to recommend Jim.

I called MTS Plumbing and Heating Services to visit and give me a quote for a new boiler. Jim arranged to visit promptly and advised me on the different types of boiler. Later that day Jim sent me a quote which I found very competitive and commissioned him to fit my new boiler. We agreed a date and Jim started the work. There were difficulties in removing the old boiler but Jim persevered and eventually got it out ! He encountered several other problems in fitting my new boiler but just got on with the job until he had sorted them out. I highly recommend Jim, he is very professional and has done an excellent job. I am very happy with my new boiler and would not hesitate to recommend him to friends and family. Jim communicated well throughout the whole process and followed this up after with registering the product and forwarding all relevant paperwork to me.

Replacing old hot water only boiler with new combi one installing radiators. We were thinking about replacing our horrible night storage heating with proper one for a while. Jim's quote was better than others and he seemed being nice person. We were 100% right! From the beginning to finish everything was perfect. Jim's commitment exceeded our expectations. There were some difficulties regarding installing pipework, but was resolved successfully, despite horrible access! The job has been finished one day earlier than scheduled! I had confidence in Jim's ability and felt safe from start to finish because he is a Which? Trusted Trader. He quickly arranged a free survey and arrived on time 15 minutes later! Before entering my home he produced his ID photo card and Which? Trusted Trader credentials without me asking. He explained simply and clearly the various types of boilers and systems and drew a diagram of my existing system to give me a clearer understanding. We discussed various options based on my needs and he gave me impartial information about each. I was happy to accept Jim's recommendation for the Ideal Logic Max Heat 18 Boiler. The installation was problematic throughout due to lack of maintenance of my central heating system and cowboy repairs. However, by sheer grit and determination Jim overcame all the difficulties. Every time a problem arose he just kept going until he managed to get it sorted regardless of how long it took. He took no breaks, despite my efforts to get him to do so, but was glad of frequent mugs of tea. Jim's expertise, experience and efficiency was very evident. He was always punctual and cleared up afterwards. Although the work took many hours longer than he had anticipated due to the many problems his quotation remained the same, for which I was so relieved and grateful. On completion of the work I quickly received all paperwork - documents, certificates, receipts etc. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Jim Mercer from MTS (11/10!)

Beyond 5 Star Service
I can not recommend Jim Mercer of MTS Plumbing and Heating more highly. I contacted Jim last week about fitting some radiators, which had been removed by a different plumber, Jim is a no nonsense, straight talking man. This job has been scheduled for a later date. On Saturday I came home after only 3 hours away from home to find a suspected burst pipe and water throughout the ground floor of the bungalow and the bathroom ceiling was collapsed. After turning off the water, I didn’t hesitate to call Jim who agreed to come straight away. Following a call to my insurance company they advised me I was covered for their own emergency plumbing company. This home emergency plumber arrived and advised me he didn’t have a ladder or as the loft isn’t fully boarded, it was unsafe for him to locate the leak and duly left. Once again I called Jim. Jim located the leak and even spoke to my insurance company, ensuring they realised the seriousness of the situation. Jim has supplied me with a report that the whole system needs to be checked for any further badly fitted joint work, as the property is only 5 years old I have taken this up with the builder. I have just received a follow up call from Jim, his work and knowledge can’t be bettered. If you want first class service, MTS plumbing and Heating is the go to company and will be mine for all my plumbing and heating.

Jim Mercer came to my rescue I needed a new boiler fast and that's what I got, Jim heard I needed one called to see me sized up the job ordered one and within days it fitted and up and running, from day one Jim dedicated himself to getting the job done. I didn't make it easy for him no matter what obstacle I put in front of him [ not that I meant to ] he overcame it nothing seemed to faze him as long as he got a cup of tea he just carried on, within two days the job was done, he had to reroute all the pipes drilling through several walls he never stopped, he took out the old boiler bricked up the holes left by it and always cleaned up after himself, thank you Jim for a job well done, highly recommended top man 10/10.

I would highly recommend this trader as the work he carried out was excellent and speedy. He installed a new Ideal boiler, removed the old one and put a new flue up through the roof. He also set up the Ideal Touch App so I can access the boiler wherever I am and switch it on/off, amend settings etc. He explained everything as he went along, so I knew what was going on all the time. As I said before the work was done very quickly and cleanly. He and his colleague were both very nice people, hence I have no problem in highly recommending him.

We needed to replace our old boiler which was firmly encased in a built in kitchen cabinet with difficult access to gas and water pipework and a boxed in flue. Jim was realistic about the potential problems of the job but also keen to make the new installation work for us in a practical and aesthetic sense. His quote arrived promptly and was clear and detailed. The work was completed to the agreed schedule and budget and included patching up paintwork and cabinetry that had been necessarily removed to complete the job. Relevant certificates, guarantees and building regulations paperwork were all received within a couple of days of completion.

We were immediately impressed with Jim's technical knowledge when he came to evaluate the job - on the same day we'd researched possible heating engineers. His prompt written and fairly-priced confirmatory quotation was again clear and detailed and we had no hesitation in selecting MTS for the job. He and his assistant, Gabi, arrived at 08.15 on the day and worked tirelessly and continuously until 17.00, not even stopping for lunch but just welcoming mugs of tea (and biscuits for Gabi!) whenever offered. Whenever a problem arose they were not satisfied until it was resolved and returned the following day to ensure all was well and carry out one or two tweaks. Jim dealt meticulously with all documentation, guarantees, etc. We would recommend him without reservation.

Jim Mercer responded quickly to the initial problem that my old boiler would not fire up. I was fairly certain that the problem was serious. After working on the boiler and making a temporary repair we had a discussion and agreed that the only real solution was a new boiler. Without any pressure he explained all the options giving me a careful cost breakdown. We fixed on a day for the work and he emailed me the day before, giving me the time that he would arrive with his assistant - he arrived to the minute. The work was carried out quickly and very efficiently. I expected that. But the care with which they treated my property and the desire to have me understand exactly what they were doing was beyond my expectations. Jim sorted out the paperwork. An experience that I could have found to be very worrying turned out to be a pleasure. A I know that Jim is available should I have any Questions in the future.

Our Boiler broke and needed advice. Called Jim and he came and saw us that evening. Jim came and fitted a new boiler for us. He came and gave a quote where he spent time explaining to us the different products and the fitting process. We were able to book in quickly and at a time convenient to both parties. When he came and fitted the boiler he again explained the process and was clean and tidy. We had a full refurbishment of our hot water and central heating system - the job took a week so we got to see plenty of Jim's work. We were impressed by his wide range of skills and experience. Our house is an old cob cottage with lots of non-standard issues but Jim was very good at finding solutions. You feel as if he would always sort you out rather than bodge it.
