The surround had detached from the wall and the company that fitted it blamed the issue on damp, I had had 3 wildly differing estimations from local damp proofing businesses ranging up to £3,500 plus £1,250 the fireplace centre wanted to charge to refit. I first contacted Ryan needing further investigation following a survey we had done to a house we were buying. He quickly visited to carry out an inspection, and supplied an in-depth, easy-to-understand evaluation of the state of the house and potential works that might need doing. As someone who hasn't the first clue about these things, I was conscious to use someone trustworthy who would provide an honest evaluation. Ryan did exactly this. I found Ryan (RB Plastering and Damp-Proofing) via Which? Trusted Traders and asked him to undertake an inspection at my mum's house in Prestwich (Manchester), following a sale falling through due to concerns raised in a buyer's survey. It was a tricky job as I was expecting a lot to need doing, and we couldn't meet in person as the house is currently vacant and I'm helping to sort this out from Sheffield (where I live). At the time of inspection the covid stay at home order was still in effect. We contacted RB plastering and damp proofing back in October when we purchased a house that needed a full damp course treatment. As first-time renovators we were concerned that we needed a trusted tradesman that would not only be reliable but talk us through the process to make sure we understood the do's and don'ts of damp proofing. Ryan offered a free quote to assess what work needed doing. He advised we had condensation on an internal wall due to no vents on the front and back of the house, and that we also had a small area of rising damp on the chimney breast. Ryan originally came to quote to damp proof the downstairs of the house I had just bought and recommended I go back to my surveyors to complain, as the house clearly had damp problems not picked up by my home buyer’s report. Ryan and his team completed a full damp course in my living room. The work was initially delayed because of Covid-19, but once rescheduled everything was done well within the timescale and budget. The work was carried out to a high degree of professionalism and to a very high standard. We couldn't be more pleased. We recently moved home and our survey stated that we needed damp proofing. I've never had to do this before and was very unsure of what was involved. Ryan could not have been more helpful, clear or patient with all my queries! He visited the property before we moved in and provided a very detailed report, he then kindly took me through the report on the phone and even followed up with another visit once we moved in to the property to show us what was needed before the work started. On top of all of this Ryan's quotes were incredibly clear and easy to understand. He broke them down by work that was necessary to do and areas that we may wish to consider in the future. When he met us in the property he also suggested cheaper things that we could do in certain rooms ourselves to test if they worked before getting him to damp proof them (he suggested we invest in a dehumidifier in one room for example rather than charging us to damp proof it). As an aside - we had to get our home re-wired after it was damp proofed and I overheard the electrician mentioning to his colleague how impressed he was with the quality of plastering that Ryan and his team carried out! Ryan has just completed a full damp proof course to our kitchen and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result and impressed with the overall service. From the outset, he turned up to quote when he said he would, the quote was detailed and gave clear instruction as to what we could expect from him and what he needed us to do to prepare the space for them to start work. He was easy to get hold of and happy to answer any questions I had prior to the job starting and turned up exactly when he said he would to start the job. We had a damp-proof membrane installed. RB Plastering gave a clear diagnosis of what was causing the damp and what needed to be done to rectify it. Ryan and his team completed a damp proof course along the party wall of my house on schedule and within the price quoted. He was recommended by a good friend, who had had work done by Ryan for him and his family. I found Ryan friendly and communicative. He explained what needed to happen in lay terms, which was very helpful. He also advised me about communicating with my neighbour regarding what impact the work might have on them and about how to help the plaster dry out more quickly and how long to leave it before re-decorating. When the team arrived, Ryan showed me the materials they were using for the damp course. He kept me updated with texts and photos of the work at different stages. The handover (of work and keys) between Ryan’s team and the joiner was seamless and I was very happy with his work too. They replaced my skirting boards with good quality skirting boards which match well with the existing ones. After the work was completed Ryan sent more photos, in which I could see that they’d mopped both my living room floor and the kitchen! Furthermore, one of the neighbours mentioned that they’d seen Ryan’s team even sweeping the pavement/ road outside the house. I know people are often concerned when you’re having work done that nails or other debris may be left outside that might puncture their car tyres, so really appreciated them cleaning up outside, as I’ve just bought a house and am new to the street.

Ryan and his team were great. I bought a property recently and knew from the survey that there could be some damp around the back door. Ryan came to inspect this, took readings and gave me a comprehensive explanation of why water was penetrating through and what would be needed to rectify this. We honestly cannot recommend Ryan and his team enough. They previously damp-proofed/plastered our living and dining rooms a few years ago, and they recently came back to do the kitchen prior to us having a new kitchen fitted. They also cleared up after themselves and left the place really tidy - which was pretty impressive given that plastering can be quite a messy job! Our Victorian end terrace needed a dpc,and after reading reviews we called Ryan. He came round and did a thorough investigation of the house,then went on to explain to us the work that needed carrying out. At this time,we asked if he could also skim and plaster the other unaffected walls and also the ceiling. The surveyor recommended further investigation & I required advice & a quote for any remedial works that may be necessary. I contacted Ryan by phone. I have had several jobs done on my house at the same time and I wish all the teams could have been as professional and hard working as Ryan and his team. From the initial quote right through to the end of several jobs I asked Ryan to do, he has been extremely informative making sure I understand every step of the process and that I was happy with everything. I was amazed at the precision they had when laying the new floor! I totally recommend Ryan and his team for damp proof and plastering works.

We have a property that had a dry rot problem which required the whole of the ground floor to be stripped the problem was so bad. We got 3 contractors to give us a quote, but went with Ryan and his team after doing some research and reading reviews from previous customers and we were not disappointed. Once the work was started we were kept up to date with the progress of the works on a daily basis and the works were completed to a very high standard. Ryan gave us a time frame for the works to be completed and he and his team went above and beyond to ensure this was attained, as we had a tight schedule to adhere to. I cannot recommend this Company enough they went that extra mile for us throughout.

Installed a damp proof membrane to the whole of my party wall in 2 days which involved removal of all the plaster on some walls due to the thickness. Ryan & the guys were on time, friendly & efficient. Ryan explained things to me really well including the extra plastering required. He also said some sections didn't need doing, saving me money and also carried out a few repairs to my patio window seals at no extra cost. Super happy with the job and the joiner did a great job too on the brand new skirting boards. Would recommend Ryan & his team & felt safe with them having access to the house for two days whilst I was at work. Thanks Guys

Ryan and his team recently carried out damp proofing repairs to my porch using an impermeable membrane to the walls. They finished off by re-plastering the walls and putting on new skirting boards. The team were very professional in all aspects of the work keeping me informed throughout with photos of work completed sent each day. Although the job created minor hassles he just got the whole lot sorted with no fuss. Would recommend without doubt.

I am really pleased with the work completed by Ryan and his team - there was a multitude of damp issues in my property and the knowledge and professionalism from RB Damp Proofing was excellent. Ryan kept his team on schedule as I was restricted with when I needed to return to the property. I felt my house was in safe hands and secure while Ryan and his team were working on it and happy in the knowledge that I'd be contacted if there was a decision to be made (e.g. internal wall removing or not). The value for money was excellent and I have since been advised by other tradesmen that the work carried out is of a very high standard. Contacted Ryan after reading reviews, I knew what the damp problem was and upon inspection so did Ryan. All contacts and timelines were kept to, any questions were answered promptly and professionally. The work to my damp wall was carried out in one day, the finish was excellent, all cleaned up before leaving with arrangements made for the joiner to call the day after. The joiners work was equally excellent. Ryan calls after the joiner has been to ensure that you are happy with all work undertaken. My rental property was suffering with significant rising and penetrating damp issues. I didn't know where to start to fix the problem but Ryan provided very detailed advice, took the time to fully explain every course of action and the various routes we could take. Ryan and his team fitted a new damp course, penetrating damp treatment and improved ventilation system, along with new skirting boards and solving of some electrical issues along the way. The work ran on time and I was provided with updates and pictures throughout so I knew exactly what was going on. The plastering work is of an excellent standard and the house was left tidy and clean. Happy customer.

Ryan and his team were great. I found him online, seemed to have good reviews so I got him round to give us a damp proof survey. He explained everything in an easy to understand way, told me exactly what is needed to fix our problems. Once I had got the survey a couple of days later, we organised a time to get the work done, Ryan was happy to work around my availability. They arrived prompt each of the 3 days of work and left the house in a clean state. I highly recommend Ryan and his team.

Ryan is extremely professional and courteous. He was punctual and came out on a Sunday to provide a quote. He was very clear and honest and took his time to check if any work was required and clearly explained to me the situation. He was totally honest and trustworthy. I thought I may have had a rising damp issue but he explained to me it was not and pointed out the root cause. Honest and passionate about his work and clearly knows his stuff!
