I just had David & Mark change out a central heating boiler. As the replacement boiler was a combi there were a certain amount changes required to the piping system under our carpet / floor boards and hardboard sheets which had to be removed and replaced. By the time they left everything was perfectly relaid and the piping to the boiler was exceptional with regard to neatness and the art of pipe installation. They turned up on time, completed the work scope within their time estimation, explained the system, helped set up the hive on my phone and completed all paper work with regard to gas and boiler certification within 2 hours of leaving the site. They are both great guys to get on with and know what they are talking about with regard to systems and problem solving. I highly recommend them if you are thinking of getting work done - wish I had found them earlier.

When our 30 year old gas boiler finally failed we looked through local Which Trusted Traders to find someone to fit a replacement (our old house would not be suitable for a heat pump without inordinate cost). We asked three traders to quote and all were competitive. However we found David of Smart Heating, Edinburgh, to be particularly pragmatic, technically aware and sensitive to our needs (including the peculiarities of a slightly quirky house). David and Mark have just completed the replacement and were extremely conscientious, neat and tidy and very capable. Their quote was a fixed price and done within the planned time. When our ageing boiler failed for the second time this winter, with a baby and a toddler in the house, David fitted us in the next working day for an estimate for a replacement. We appreciated the way he spoke with us, being sympathetic but also clearly setting our expectations about what timescales might be possible. We had major problems with our central heating boiler some time after fitting a “Hive” control system. Our regular, excellent, plumber was totally defeated despite his best efforts. We were having problems with our boiler and some of the radiator pipework. We spoke to two companies but gained little clarity. However Smart Heating Edinburgh were different and from the initial telephone call with David some ideas were put forward and a home visit arranged. Various options explored and merits of each discussed and it was agreed to replace the boiler and some of the pipework. A detailed fixed price quote was given and accepted. The agreed work was undertaken over two days by David and Mark at the previously agreed price. As work was carried out we were kept informed of progress. Throughout this whole process it was possible to ask questions and advice and explanations were readily given. There was minimal disruption and work was carried out in a safe, tidy manner clearing up as work progressed. When finished the new boiler controls were explained and gas safety certificate issued. All in all glad we chose Smart Heating Edinburgh and would recommend to others.

Smart Heating had carried out an earlier small piece of work for us very satisfactorily so had no hesitation in contacting the company when our elderly boiler and heating system began to cause trouble. David and Mark responded quickly surveyed the system talked us through our options and then provided a written quote outlining in detail the work to which we had agreed. This included the installation of a new boiler and unvented cylinder the removal of an old hot water cylinder and shower pumps together with a power flush and simplification of the existing pipe layout. They arrived promptly on the chosen date and completed the project within the promised three days and budget. We are very happy with our new system which has worked from day one without any problems. They are professional quiet clean tidy pleasant and efficient workers. Like previous reviewers have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them on the basis of our experience.

David and Mark installed two large vertical radiators in our sitting room. All completed within timescale and budget (fixed price quotation). These guys are good listeners and have a very ‘can-do’ attitude, meaning that they work round any problems that arise without complaint. High quality workmanship and thorough cleaning up afterwards. Probably the best service experience I have had so far (aged 70!) with sensible prices as well. TBH I cannot recommend these guys highly enough.

When British Gas Homecare failed to deliver again weeks after the initial fault was reported, we were advised to contact Smart Heating. What a contrast: ONE phone call, ONE email and the solution was in capable hands. Gas boiler central heating system developed faults, Christmas Eve! By Boxing day the heating system had broken down. British Gas were unable to get an engineer out and Worcester Bosch recommended a number of accredited engineers. I read some reviews here on Which? and called Smart Heating Edinburgh Ltd. David took the call and couldn't have been nicer or more understanding. He took some details, asked for photos to complete pre-visit assessment and picked up parts on his way to his first job of the day (28/December - a public holiday!). He phoned before heading out to us, when he arrived he was fully prepared. The job was completed within an hour and left us with working heating. A totally professional job. Excellent!

I can’t recommend Smart Heating Edinburgh enough, they fitted Nest thermostats to our old boiler a few years ago and I called them again when our boiler needed replaced. We had a bit of a complex job as our old boiler was so old that we couldn’t put the new one in the same place (because of regulations). They spent ages at our property deciding the best way to install the new one, and considering all the options. I felt reassured that we were getting the best solution. They also identified a water pressure issue we’ve had for over 15 years, other plumbers got round it by installing pumps and other work arounds, but these guys did a proper investigation, found the issue and resolved it. The worked fast, and left the place very tidy. I will definitely use them in the future.

It was time to upgrade our 20 year old radiators, some of which were leaking, so gave Smart Heating a call to provide a quote for us. Following a leak in our hot water tank, we arranged for a few different companies to come and replace our old boiler and system with a new combi boiler. David arrived to give the quote at the time arranged, and provided the quote to us the same day. This was one of the more competitive quotes, but what gave me most confidence was the fact that he dug around under our kitchen units to fully understand the pipework we had so that he could give a firm fixed quote for the work. The other quotations hadn't done this, and noted that there could be extra costs if more pipework was needed. David and Mark arrived a few days later on schedule to do the work. It was anticipated to take two days, but they were able to start half a day earlier than anticipated, so were done in a day and a half. The work was really neatly done which is always a good sign of quality work. Whilst here they also did a couple of other jobs for us, such as plumbing an outside tap and fixing some values on radiators and a sink. We're now left with a new combi boiler, Hive smart control, and a nice neat installation. We'll certainly be getting them back next year for the annual service. Thanks!

It was the perfect storm: overnight, the coldest in decades, and my CH boiler goes rogue. A nightmare - and worse: it's Friday, with the prospect of a freezing weekend ahead. An architect friend warmly recommended Smart Heating. They were brilliant from the start: responding immediately, asking sensible questions, clarifying the situation after I sent some pictures they requested, and offering an ETA within an hour so. And then turning up exactly when they promised (all fully Covid-compliant, of course). David and Mark quickly identified the problem (to do with freezing rather than the actual boiler), and sorted it out within 30 minutes. Thoroughly professional, helpfully explanatory about the issues, and a pleasure to deal with. I wholeheartedly recommend them for anything to do with heating issues. My elderly boiler broke down, again. Having had Smart Heating recommended to me by a colleague, I asked them to help. Despite the coronavirus lockdown, Mark came round, and persuaded me (without difficulty) that, given the difficulty of sourcing spare parts at this time, the best solution would be a new boiler. He sent me an estimate that same day, and three days later he and David were back to complete the installation, all in one day. This is the third time I have used David and Mark over the past 3 years. They came and fitted a MagnaClean device alongside my old boiler, excellent results from that, they then fitted a new central heating system to my daughter's flat three floors up and finally carried out fitting a new boiler and dealt with renewing pipes and giving my system a service using the MagnaClean device in my own home yesterday. Our ancient boiler finally gave up the ghost and needed replacing urgently. David and Mark gave us a fixed quote, arrived exactly when they said they would, and finished the job exactly on time. They were both friendly and courteous at all times, worked unobtrusively and didn't leave any mess at all. David explained our replacement options thoroughly beforehand, making sure we got exactly what we wanted but didn't sign up for anything that was unnecessary, and the new heating controls (via an app on our phones) were thoroughly and clearly explained by Mark. Mark and David turned up on time and did a great job within the time specified. They were careful in all they had to lift up, move or reinstate and took the trouble to clean up and leave us with water every night during the installation of a new boiler. They were friendly and unobtrusive while working in our house. We could not have asked for better.

Mark and David were recommended to me by a friend at work. I needed all my radiators and old pipework replaced and they quoted a good price and were happy to talk me through the job so I understood everything that would be done. Also put my mind at ease that the rest of my system was fine rather than try to upsell a full boiler swap as others had done. They came across as very honest and knowledgeable. On the day of install, they arrived promptly and I left them to it. Returned from work to a clean and tidy house and you'd hardly know they had been there. Would highly recommend these lads. Professional, but relaxed and good quality of work.

Excellent service from two very knowledgeable and skillful engineers. Within two days of contacting the company David and Mark had visited my property and provided me with a fixed price quote. The replacement of my old boiler and pipework and the installation of a new radiator wasn’t straightforward but David and Mark found the optimum solution saving me time and money. Courteous and friendly they carried the work out over two days and at the end of each day left the rooms clean and tidy. Very pleased with their workmanship and I would highly recommend them.

The job was to install a new boiler and central heating system to replace the old storage tanks and storage heaters. It was not the easiest of jobs as my floors are concrete, with restricted space underneath, but David and Mark are great problem solvers. They are efficient, knowledgeable and very hard working, and it was a pleasure to deal with them. They gave me a fixed price for the job and stuck to it. They were also flexible when it came to fitting in with other trades working in the house. I will certainly call on their skills again, and highly recommend them.

I spent a considerable amount of time researching the Edinburgh contractors before I engaged Smart Heating Edinburgh Ltd which paid dividends on the day. The installation was first class and being a gold accredited installer the boiler has a ten-year Worcester guarantee. Only teething issues concerned fitting the slightly larger boiler into the existing cupboard housing which will require some joinery alterations for access to the filter and controls but this has nothing to do with the quality of the work on the day and can be expected when upgrading old appliances with modern equivalents.

Although busy with other work, they took note of the urgency and managed to find a way to fit my job into their schedule. All the work was done professionally and thoroughly and the new system is performing well. The engineers arrived on time, were friendly, efficient and hard-working. Smart Heating were doing work for us as a subcontractor for RHJ Contracts (i.e. we did not initially engage them ourselves to do the work). This work involved plumbing in an additional bathroom in the basement. Their work was exceptionally neat and they also gave good advice with regard to water pressure on our new shower. We also engaged them ourselves for relocating the boiler to a different floor of the house. Again, the work was very neat and they kept to their reasonable quote. Their advice was also honest - we asked about upgrading our hot water system, which they made clear was not necessary. However, to avoid the need for future work, we decided to go ahead with replacing our hot water system with a pressurised one. Once again, they gave us a fair quote for the work which they kept to. So overall we had some fairly extensive plumbing/heating jobs and in all cases their communication was good, their advice was trustworthy and helpful, the quality of their finish was very neat and they kept to their quotes. My husband is a former member of Which and we have used the trusted trader service in the past - the service offered by Smart Heating is definitely comparable with the quality of service we have received from other Which trusted traders and they are deserving of a place on the list.
