Totally Incompetent
Our boiler developed a problem which meant it wasn’t switching on and because it's a combi boiler we had no heating or hot water. I phoned S&C and told them the two fault codes. I was told the electrodes needed replacing and they would order them. The electrodes arrived a few days later and the engineer installed them. The boiler came on and he left, and 30 minutes later it stopped working again. I phoned S&C who washed their hands of the problem and advised me to contact the boilers manufacturer (Vaillant). A Vaillant engineer came out a few days later. He checked the fault codes, stored in memory on the boiler, and quickly diagnosed the problem as a faulty gas valve. The gas valve was changed and the boiler has worked perfectly ever since. Subsequently, we received an invoice from S&C for £102. I emailed them and suggested that as they had not fixed the boiler they should consider giving us a discount. This they refused to do. They deny I told them both fault codes over the phone. I know I told them both codes but I can’t prove it. Even so, the two fault codes were displayed on the boilers screen and they are stored in memory and can easily be accessed by a competent engineer. The S&C engineer who attended failed to diagnose the problem. He just wanted to change the part and get out fast. I don't think the S&C engineer knew how to fault the boiler and they should not have taken the job. Needless to say, I will NEVER use them again.

Really poor job, twice
I've used S&C for years but their recent performance has been very disappointing. Replaced a shower valve and left the new unit stuck on with silicone sealant - explanation was that " all showers are 155mm spacing" This is untrue as I found many online. Fixed this "at their expense" after initially arguing it was the best that could be done. Replaced a hot water cylinder - left us overnight with no hot water (immersion set to minimum) and shower not connected as this "would take too long" ( were going to two breakdowns) plus a leaking joint on the hot water pipe. Returned the next day and left us with no hot water from the central heating. This they claimed was an existing fault, even though it was working fine before. A separate electrician called on Monday and fixed the issue as a defective "quick connector" had been used. Earth bonding had been removed whilst replacing stop cock. S&C claim this was already disconnected even though I have a photo taken before their work. It is dangerous to not connect earth bonding. This repaired by the electrician on Monday. Have used them for 4 boiler replacements plus other work in the past, but having to argue to get a resolution is draining. A simple apology and fixing the issue would be fine - not excuses like "it was already like that" "it's the best that could be done as no smaller valves exist" "it will take too long to connect the shower" The faults were fixed at their expense, which is only to be expected and not a virtue.

We used S+C to upgrade our oil-based heating system. The work was completed efficiently and with friendly service in the 4 days originally estimated. Their prices were reasonable and they were quick to respond to one or two minor hiccups after the job was completed. I would have no hesitation in recommending S+C to any interested party.

Urgent work carried out professionally
Worcester boiler engineer was unable to solve problem with wall unit for Honeywell equipment flashing red. When contacted Southgate & Culham boss, Kevin, came round same day and replaced Honeywell wall unit with a new unit, which sorted out the problem.He was very efficient, friendly, extremely competent and helpful, as we have always found him in the past when his help was required.

Speedy service
Unable to turn to heat off and house getting like a sauna. Phoned at about 10 am and the engineer was with us by 5 pm. Problems identified very quickly. All the required items needed were onboard and work completed within an hour. Everything has worked perfectly since and our thanks to Southgate and Culham for a speedy, efficient, and friendly service. We would recommend them to anyone without any hesitation.

Supply and install replacement top immersion in cylinder
Immersion heater appeared to have failed, however on first visit the engineer reported a loose electrical connection which on tightening appeared to restore working order. He was reluctant to incur my expense of changing it if not really necessary, so by agreement he left it in. There was no hot water next day so it was concluded to be an intermittent fault and he was asked to re-attend which he did a week later. This was entirely acceptable as heating water was possible by using the oil-fired boiler on water only as the alternative fuel. Upon his second visit the engineer replaced the heater and showed me the faulty one. The internal element casing was split in two places! I was pleased with the account when it arrived as I was only charged for one call-out fee. Good, thoughtful service all round.

Finally, a Plumbing & Heating company with Morals, Scruples & Principles who provide a 5 Star Impeccable Service with Excellent Customer Care & Excellent Customer Service Wayne arrived early to carry out:- Two Radiator changes along with two TRV/Lockshield sets Six TRV/Lockshield set changes Tighten Mono Mixer Tap on Kitchen Sink Wayne removed his shoes upon arrival (which is always a good sign that a Tradesman respects your home) & placed covers under the Radiators to be removed. He worked incredibly fast & was clean & tidy throughout the house & even hoovered! Wayne was friendly, very polite & courteous with excellent people skills. He is very knowledgable & answered all my questions I asked him to look at & carry out additional works if he had time:- a) Hallway Radiator change b) Replace & Redirect Condensate Pipe to new Combi Boiler (Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i) which had been fitted by another company a week earlier c) Check Boiler Flue in Loft & Roof Nothing was too much trouble & he carried out the additional checks & work very quickly. I have used numerous Plumbing & Heating companies throughout the UK & Abroad for Hospitality Venues & Homes & Wayne is one of the best Plumbing & Heating Engineers I have ever seen. Reliable and communicative
These guys are what anybody would want in a tradesman. Office correspondence is clear and friendly and they respond to questions and answer phone calls and emails. They try hard to fit you in quickly when your system is down. They know their stuff but are ready to give advice as well as make repairs. I can do some of my own work and they are happy to work with me on it. They are flat out but give you time. Excellent rating from me.

Going the extra mile
Make no mistake, this is what good looks like. Kevin and his team go the extra mile and don't rest until the problem is fixed. Having slowly been losing hot water pressure and temperature, a detailed investigation yielded a couple of issues, and a new pressurized cylinder was installed as an emergency job in a matter of days. They have previously also replaced our oil boiler. The onsite team are approachable and friendly, as is Nikki who works in the office.

Excellent service....got us out of a real muddle
Our hot water expansion tank sprung a leak overnight and soaked everything including the carpeted area next to the hot water cylinder. Contacted Southgate & Culham and explained the problem and how urgently we needed it fixed. They came out that day and not only fixed the problem, but identified previous plumbing mistakes that caused the expansion tank problem. Everything sorted by the end of the day...…Cannot thank them enough.
