Loveholidays review

Who is loveholidays?

Loveholidays is a UK-based online travel agent (OTA) offering budget beach breaks by packaging up 35,000 hotels with flights from the UK. It sells sunny island getaways to areas like the Greek and Canary Islands, as well as city breaks across Europe and America.

Which? verdict

While loveholidays offers very competitive rates for its holidays, its mediocre value-for-money score suggests some customers were disappointed. And, like many online travel agents (OTAs), it struggles to match its competitors on customer service. We’ve found lots of better options for beach and city breaks and family holidays.

Customer score Based on a combination of overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend the company. In August 2022, we asked 8,361 Which? Connect panel members about their experiences of an all-inclusive holiday.

What's loveholidays like?

Loveholidays competes against companies like On the Beach in the growing market of budget online travel agents. According to our survey of more than 20 beach/resort package holiday providers, there were only three competitors with a cheaper short-haul average price than its £82 per night per person. However, two of those (Mercury Holidays and On The Beach) received a higher customer score.

Across four holiday types, loveholidays received a very mixed bag of ratings and failed to score five stars in a single category. It only scored three stars for customer service for its beach/resort holidays, all-inclusive holidays and city breaks. A common theme in customer responses was that there were issues with communication, with customers pointing out that they ‘can only contact loveholidays via online chat’ and how the company was ‘difficult to get hold of’.

It scored poorly for all-inclusive holidays, with poor two-star ratings for its accommodation, organisation, transport to and from the destination and for the 'included' benefits. While the all inclusive headline price was relatively low (£85pp per night), guests reported having to pay extra for snacks and local alcoholic drinks. And more than a third had to pay extra for cocktails. Even when they could find these things for free, nearly half of guests reported restrictions on what/when they could eat and drink.

Loveholidays performed better for its family holidays, scoring four stars for customer service, transport and value for money. A customer pointed out that the company had 'great options at competitive value', and another described their trip as 'cheap and cheerful'.

Should I book with loveholidays?

Our survey showed that loveholidays is not the best of the budget OTAs when it comes to cheap beach and city breaks. There are other companies with similarly low prices but better star ratings across the board. Which? Recommended Provider Hays Travel is a far better bet for an affordable beach holiday.
