Who is Riviera Travel?

Although Riviera Travel is well known for its river cruises, it also provides escorted tours to a wide range of destinations, from Japan to the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Its focus is on the over-55s market.

Which? verdict

Riviera Travel is an excellent provider of cultural tours and a Which? Recommended Provider. It also does well in the general escorted tours category, but other providers, including Exodus, are better-rated.

Riviera Travel refund, cancellation and surcharge policy

Riviera travel is a Which? Recommended Provider (WRP), which means that, as well as being one of the most highly rated holiday firms in our survey, it has also guaranteed to offer a full refund, or free changes, if the Foreign Office (FCDO) changes its advice about your destination.

It has also promised that in 2024 it won’t apply any additional surcharges to holidays that have already been booked.

Customer score Based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the company. In August 2022, we asked 8,361 Which? Connect panel members and the public to complete an online survey about their experiences of booking and going on holiday in the past two years.

What's Riviera Travel like?

With consistent four-star ratings across both categories, Riviera is an accomplished operator.

In the cultural tours category Riviera Travel received a strong 83% customer score, placing it second in our table after Trailfinders.

Those who used Riviera Travel were complimentary of the ‘very knowledgeable and helpful’ guides. One said: 'The guide and the coach driver were excellent, nothing was too much trouble’. Holidaymakers were also impressed with the ‘superb’ organisation of the holiday.

Riviera Travel also received a strong 83% customer in the escorted tours category, but this was only enough to place it joint fourth in our table, with better-rated WRPs above it.

Customers were impressed by the ‘excellent’ accommodation, although some travellers were disappointed by the large groups for their tours.

Should I book with Riviera Travel?

Yes. Riviera Travel’s knowledgeable guides, excellent organisation and wide range of destinations are just some of the reasons why it's a Which? Recommended Provider for cultural tours.

It is also a good provider of escorted tours, but Exodus receives a better rating at a similar price.
