Customer score Based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the company. In August 2022, we asked 8,361 Which? Connect panel members and the public to complete an online survey about their experiences of booking and going on holiday in the past two years. In September 2023 we asked 1,918 Which? Connect panel members about their experiences of an all-inclusive holiday.

What’s Saga like?

Saga offered its first holiday back in 1951 – a seaside excursion exclusively for retired people. Since then, its range of trips has expanded considerably, but the clientele remains much the same.

Saga is a Which? Recommended Provider for its all-inclusive holidays. It says it hand-picks its hotels, making sure they meet its exacting standards. Judging by our survey, they met yours too. It was one of only two brands with a four-star accommodation rating. Food and drink was praised for its excellent standard too. Guests clearly had everything they needed, as they spent very little on average outside the resort (£44 per week).

Saga received good scores for its beach/resort holidays, with five-star ratings for organisation, transport, its holiday representatives and the description matching reality. Customers appreciated Saga’s ‘excellent’ organisation and that it ‘takes good care of its clients’.

However, its results in the other holiday categories were less impressive. A customer score of 76% left Saga as a mid-table provider for city breaks. Holidaymakers felt looked after with Saga and enjoyed the variety of activities and destinations it offered.

Saga also finished mid table for tailor-made holidays. It received a solid set of four-star ratings and a good customer score of 71%. To put that rating in perspective, Audley Travel got an exceptional 95% customer score, making it a much better alternative.

Saga’s worst result came in the escorted tours category, where it sits at the bottom of the table, along with Leger Holidays. It received a mediocre three-star rating for customer service. One customer said: ‘I didn’t feel my complaint was taken as seriously as it could have been’.

Should I book with Saga?

For all-inclusive holidays, Saga is an excellent option with high ratings across the board and the lowest spend on extras.

For a beach/resort holiday Saga is a reasonable choice but you may want to consider Kuoni, which is slightly more expensive, but has a higher customer score and better star ratings.

For escorted tours and cultural tours specifically, try Trailfinders. And Audley Travel, with an exceptional 95% customer score, is a much better alternative for tailor-made holidays.
