Which? verdict

A good option for ski holidays, solo holidays and city breaks. Virgin holidays is worth considering for beach/resort and family holidays, but you may want to compare with Jet2Holidays or Kuoni before you book. For walking holidays, escorted and self-guided tours we found better alternatives.

What's Virgin Holidays like?

Virgin Holidays performed well in the beach/resort, and family holidays categories, narrowly missing out on the top five in both. In these categories Virgin Holidays scored five stars for its accommodation, description matching reality and its transport to the destination. Virgin Holidays' performance in these categories is summarised nicely by one customer who said it was an 'amazing holiday’ but ‘not cheap’.

The strong performance continued in the city breaks category, with the second highest customer score and a solid set of star ratings, and the all-inclusives category where it was the joint fourth provider with a four-star rating for value for money.

But Virgin Holidays’ best result came in the ski holidays category where it was the top-rated provider, with five stars for value for money. Customers praised Virgin Holidays' ‘amazing deals’.

Virgin Holidays was also highly rated in the escorted tour and self guided tour categories. It performed better in the escorted tours category where it managed to gain another five stars for value for money. However, there were better-rated companies above it in the table. For walking tours, HF holidays and Ramblers are better alternatives, with higher customer scores.

Virgin Holidays produced excellent scores for city breaks, ski, beach/resort and family holidays. However, it is not a WRP for 2023 because it reserves the right to add a surcharge to your holiday after you have booked and paid for your holiday. It can do this if some of its own costs rise, although Virgin tells us that it’s extremely rare for surcharges to be applied.

Should I book with Virgin Holidays?

If you are looking for a ski holiday Virgin Holidays is our highest rated provider, with five-star value for money.

Virgin Holidays also received excellent scores for city breaks and is a strong provider of beach/resort, all-inclusive and family holidays. However, Jet2Holidays, with a higher customer score and an extra star rating for value for money, may be a better alternative.
