T Nutt & Sons has been named Which? Trusted Trader of the Month for July 2026. 

Based in Chesterfield, the company is a family business founded in 1869 and employs 12 staff, from carpet fitters to a showroom manager. 

We spoke to David Nutt, Managing Director of T. Nutt & Sons, to find out more about their business and the benefits they get from being a Which? Trusted Trader.

150 years of high standards

Recalling the long history of the company, David said: ‘T. Nutt & Sons has been part of my family’s life since 1869, so in many ways I grew up with the business. My father, Tom Nutt, ran the company, and my four brothers and I spent our childhood surrounded by carpets, flooring and customers. It was always a family business, but my father was very clear that none of us would simply walk straight into it.’

David and his brother Keven went out into the world to gain experience, skills and understanding of how to work hard elsewhere before coming back to the family business. Keven is now also a director at the company. 

‘The business has always been built on much more than selling carpets and flooring. It’s about looking after people properly, giving honest advice, treating customers with respect and making sure every installation is completed to the highest possible standard.’

This ethos is represented in the company's Which? Trusted Trader reviews, with a 4.9 star overall rating, 5 stars for customer service, 5 for quality and 4.9 for value for money.

A recent satisfied customer said: ‘Excellent service, good carpet choice at Clay Cross Showrooms. No pressure to buy but excellent knowledge and advice given. The carpet fitting team were very professional and friendly, respecting our home, and also moved the heavy furniture on our behalf. They carried out their work in an orderly and professional manner. David explained why his company joined Which?
