This is the second time I have used Alex and on this occasion it was to install a new gas cooker. Alex arrived at the designated time and carried out the work to a high standard connecting the gas flexible pipe, checking for gas tightness, fixing a safety chain, levelling the cooker and ensuring all the cooker's safety features were working correctly. The work area was left clean and tidy and all this for a very competitive rate. Alex is my go to Gas Safe heating engineer and I would not hesitate in recommending him.

He is always happy to explain what he is doing and make recommendations, where appropriate. GAS WARNING NOTICE - INCORRECTLY GIVEN

After leaving B.Gas Homecare after 15+ years, I decided to go down the private route.Alex was recommended to undertake a gas safe on a rental property. He did this and gave a Gas Warning Notice with a DANGER DO NOT USE warning. He stated that the "Boiler flue terminal too close to an opening window", due to the windows being less than 1200mm from the flu terminal. Clearly concerned I advised tenants to keep all nearby windows closed and to not use the boiler. I was surprised at his findings as B.Gas had undertaken the same inspection for the previous 15 years. I raised a complaint with B.Gas as they had not noticed the same issue, and this over took 2.5 hours. I organised for the engineer who originally installed the boiler to undertake second inspection. After detailed measurements, i.e. opening the velux windows and using a tape measure, he found that all windows were over 1200mm away from the flu terminal. Alex's findings were incorrect. After emailing Alex he stated that he used a "Dewalt digital laser distance measurer" but did not open the windows. He also stated that he used his "engineering judgement and look at each scenario". If he had opened the windows, as he should have done, he would have found that the installation was within the guidelines. I wasted a lot of time and effort with B.Gas, Tenants, 2nd engineer and chasing Alex due to his incorrect findings. I am now chasing Alex for compensation via small claims court. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

As a Gas Safe registered engineer I have a duty of care to ensure that when producing a gas safety certificate that I am 100% certain the installation is safe. One of the regulations stipulates that a vertical flue terminal must be a minimum distance away from a Velux window adjacent or below the terminal. When I measured the distance for this property (by opening the Velux and measuring using a digital measuring device) it fell slightly short of the requirement and so I was obliged to select this finding on an industry standard form; this triggers an automatic notification that warns of a potential risk. The customer was not happy about this and has disputed the findings. I strongly disagree with the customers recollection of events (who was not present for the inspection) and, despite my best efforts, to resolve their dissatisfaction amicably they have sought to impact the reputation of my business. To confirm, I have no choice but to raise concerns and err on the side of caution when dealing with gas safety.

Diagnosing and fixing heating system problem

Came back from holiday to find the heating system offline in our new house. Alex kindly walked me through a number of things to check over the phone, and was able to attend within a day or so despite a busy schedule. Once in front of the system he found that it was a build up of air in the system. He purged the air, checked the boiler, pump etc, and showed me how I can purge air if it happens again, if I feel brave enough to do it myself! Very reasonable call out charge. I’ve used AB Central a few times before at my old house, as did my brother, and we have always been extremely happy with the service. Recommended!

Alex is the best plumber we've had doing some work for us at our cottage over the past few years. He is brilliant at his job and has extensive knowledge and work experience. He helped us with our boiler, installed our Nest and also re-routed some external gas pipes. Alex is a lovely plumber - polite, friendly, good work ethic, and always shows up. Would highly recommend!

Just had my boiler serviced by Alex. He arrived on time and his work is extremely neat and tidy. He takes great pride in his work, and takes time to explain what he is doing, and is very happy to answer questions and give advice. He has previously installed a new bathroom for me, as well as a new WC, and has been servicing my boiler for several years. I can thoroughly recommend him.
