GAS WARNING NOTICE - INCORRECTLY GIVEN

After leaving B.Gas Homecare after 15+ years, I decided to go down the private route.Alex was recommended to undertake a gas safe on a rental property. He did this and gave a Gas Warning Notice with a DANGER DO NOT USE warning. He stated that the "Boiler flue terminal too close to an opening window", due to the windows being less than 1200mm from the flu terminal. Clearly concerned I advised tenants to keep all nearby windows closed and to not use the boiler. I was surprised at his findings as B.Gas had undertaken the same inspection for the previous 15 years. I raised a complaint with B.Gas as they had not noticed the same issue, and this over took 2.5 hours. I organised for the engineer who originally installed the boiler to undertake second inspection. After detailed measurements, i.e. opening the velux windows and using a tape measure, he found that all windows were over 1200mm away from the flu terminal. Alex's findings were incorrect. After emailing Alex he stated that he used a "Dewalt digital laser distance measurer" but did not open the windows. He also stated that he used his "engineering judgement and look at each scenario". If he had opened the windows, as he should have done, he would have found that the installation was within the guidelines. I wasted a lot of time and effort with B.Gas, Tenants, 2nd engineer and chasing Alex due to his incorrect findings. I am now chasing Alex for compensation via small claims court. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

As a Gas Safe registered engineer I have a duty of care to ensure that when producing a gas safety certificate that I am 100% certain the installation is safe. One of the regulations stipulates that a vertical flue terminal must be a minimum distance away from a Velux window adjacent or below the terminal. When I measured the distance for this property (by opening the Velux and measuring using a digital measuring device) it fell slightly short of the requirement and so I was obliged to select this finding on an industry standard form; this triggers an automatic notification that warns of a potential risk. The customer was not happy about this and has disputed the findings. I strongly disagree with the customers recollection of events (who was not present for the inspection) and, despite my best efforts, to resolve their dissatisfaction amicably they have sought to impact the reputation of my business. To confirm, I have no choice but to raise concerns and err on the side of caution when dealing with gas safety.

Diagnosing and fixing heating system problem

Came back from holiday to find the heating system offline in our new house. Alex kindly walked me through a number of things to check over the phone, and was able to attend within a day or so despite a busy schedule. Once in front of the system he found that it was a build up of air in the system. He purged the air, checked the boiler, pump etc, and showed me how I can purge air if it happens again, if I feel brave enough to do it myself! Very reasonable call out charge. I’ve used AB Central a few times before at my old house, as did my brother, and we have always been extremely happy with the service. Recommended!

Our last boiler was over 25 years old and had failed at last. Alex did a good job of checking the old one before agreeing to fit a new one for us. He explained everything to us and ensured that we understood the options. He started the very next day (due to a cancelation) along with other heating related jobs. We first used Alex 18 months ago to service our very old boiler. The boiler was inefficient and expensive to run and we had no hesitation to ask Alex to install a new boiler. I have called upon Alex on several occasions over the past three years to repair either central heating pumps, annual boiler services and fix glitches with our Honeywell Home remote control system....... and he has never failed to impress on every single occasion! He arrives on the dot of the arranged date, usually armed with spares should any be needed. One Friday I phoned at 9:30am (hoping I might get some emergency advice as the central heating had just simply shut down without warning) and maybe get some tips on how I might get it working again: he turned up 15 minutes later and replaced a jammed valve which cured the problem. Spectacular customer service! His work is always neat, efficient and very professionally carried out at very, very fair rates.....I can't praise him high enough. That he is thoroughly conversant with our somewhat specialised Honeywell control system is the cherry on the cake! Look no further.....ABCentral Heating Services is the place to go to!

The work was done to a very high standard, Alex kept our house clean and made every step of the process as easy as possible for us. Alex was recommended to me through a friend of mine. He came over to bleed the upstairs radiators which I couldn’t do myself due to not being able to open the very old valves. Whilst he was here I took the opportunity to ask a lot of questions re my central heating system to further understand it, and to ask other questions regarding various other bits in the house. I found him very easy to talk to and he really explained everything to me well so although a very small and easy job, I feel it was worth it due to the knowledge I gained. Heated towel rail & repair to kitchen tap

We were introduced to Alex by DTEEC electrical company who were repairing the floor heating in our shower room. Our towel rail was not heated and Alex installed heating in the existing towel rail. He went to a lot of trouble to make the job neat and the new copper piping symmetrical. He also explained clearly how to use the thermometer to regulate the heating. On another occasion we asked him to install a new cartridge and seals to our Pallas 3-way kitchen tap which was leaking. He made an excellent job and left everything neat and clean. He is always prompt and arrives when he says he will. He is happy to spend time making sure that everything is to our satisfaction and his price is really reasonable. I have no hesitation in recommending him. I will use him for all our similar work in future.

Alex put in a new boiler for us and did a superb job over 2 days. He was very neat and tidy and removed the old floor standing boiler and put in new pumps and valves as well as flushing out the whole central heating system. He explained everything to us in layman's terms and set up an annual aftercare system. He very neatly rebricked the outside new flue. He cleared up immaculately and removed everything from the site. The work was done to budget and the quote was competitive. All in all, a great job!

I called AB Central Heating early on 22nd May as my heating was not working and my boiler kept cutting in and out Alex advised he was able to visit that afternoon and that he would do his best to fix it that day Alex arrived as promised and did a thorough check over my heating system and diagnosed that a new pump was required. After consultation with us, Alex fitted a more powerful pump and I am now back up and running Why am I Over the Moon ? I had an extension built around 5 years ago and the radiator fitted in there has never worked so I had to buy an oil filled portable radiator just to keep warm . Several people have looked at it over the last 5 years and no one has diagnosed the problem Alex identified a more powerful pump was required and my radiator in the new room and room next to it now gets piping hot ! I am so pleased When I received his invoice I could also not believe he had completed the work for what he has charged - I was anticipating a lot more ! So very happy with Alex's work and would highly recommend him
