Access4Lofts Watford

Contracted to fit loft hatch, loft ladder & clearance. After fitting, franchisee presented an invoice higher than that agreed. Honoured original price when challenged. Unable to pay as card reader not charged so he had to return for payment. Unfortunately he again failed to charge the reader so had to return a third time before we could pay. Ladder not securely or safely fitted, hatch catch kept failing & joist cut into but not reinforced. Blamed the nominal thickness of the board he had used for the hatch for the catch issues. Ignoring our concerns, his solution was to pack under the catch with offcuts. The ‘repair’ failed. He returned to replace the hatch with heavier board. It appears regulations require he should have used the thicker (more expensive?) board in the first place. The catch continued to fail, necessitating balancing on a ladder at the head of the stairs to repair it ourselves. His efforts to reinforce the beam were also inadequate He became increasingly aggressive, tetchy & rude with each contact as we tried to have matters resolved, until we had to consider whether it was safe to continue dealings. Having raised issues with Which?, the franchisor got in touch to apologise for the issues with the franchisee & discuss resolution. Shortcomings in the workmanship were rectified by the Operations Director meaning that finally, we have useable and crucially, safe, loft access. Would not, and have not, recommended Access4Lofts Watford.
