We had all our windows and doors replaced by A.J.P. Holloway Home Improvements at the end of June/early July 2013 ÔøΩ 5 months ago now, so we have had plenty of experience of the double-glazing ÔøΩin actionÔøΩ as the weather cools off. From the outset, Ashley and his company were very professional and inspired confidence. Like most people, we had investigated a number of firms, both large and small, in the local area so that we could get a ÔøΩfeelÔøΩ for how each operated, and of course, get price quotations. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Ashley ÔøΩ he answered every question that we threw at him, and if he didnÔøΩt know, he soon found out and came back to us promptly. Before installing the windows and doors, he made extremely careful measurements. This was especially pertinent in our case, as the house is stone and the existing windows are all slightly different and irregular. This care and attention to detail was to prove invaluable during the fitting (he was the one fitting the windows anyway) and this was commented upon by a Glazeright engineer. (The front door, supplied by Glazeright, was missing one of the draught proofing trims on one edge and Ashley organised the firm to put this right within a few days). The fitter was an independent person and had no real need to make any comment at all ÔøΩ he told us that some less skilful fitters just measure the smallest dimensions of irregular windows like ours, have the windows made to that size, fill the resultant relatively wide spaces and use wide trims to cover-up. Ashley did not take this easy approach and consequently the trims around the frames both internally and externally are narrow, neat and well finished. After fitting, he also spent considerable time pointing around the windows and doors, where necessary, to achieve an excellent finish. Our internal windowsills were solid wood and we did not want them replaced with plastic-coated fibreboard so Ashley suggested coverboards for them ÔøΩ this worked very well and they were also very neatly finished; the bonus for us was no internal decorating or re-plastering (removal of sills is difficult to achieve without causing damage, and use of coverboards avoided this). Ashley and his colleague, Les, worked diligently and always arrived on time. Although the work was planned to take five days it took a little longer, due to the care which he took and being delayed by a day of heavy rain, which was no problem to us. Ashley aims to leave everything in outstanding order, and they cleared away superbly every day, both inside and out of the house, including taking old window frames and glass away. We were delighted with AshleyÔøΩs work, and the support of his wife Caroline for answering ÔøΩlockÔøΩ queries. We have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who might consider their company for fitting double glazing. It is now over 5 months since our windows and doors were replaced and we are still really pleased with their quality and the skill with which they were fitted.
