Alan installed what was for us, a totally new boiler system as well as seven new radiators a year ago. He returned today for the first annual inspection and check. We have been very impressed with his knowledge and appreciated his lucid explanations especially as we changed over to a completely different central heating system. The installation was carried out with minimal fuss, mess and disruption and included installing some new pipework, taking out the old boiler and both the hot water and cold water tanks. We were delighted to see him back today for the annual check. We recommend him most highly.

Alan popped in out of hours to have a look at old boiler, quickly arranged for a replacement and arrived a couple of days to later to install. Great job ... all very neat and tidy afterwards too, with good info provided including about boilers in general. Also rang when he said he would, did what he said he would. Smart and decent bloke. My ancient boiler broke down during the cold snap just before Christmas. Alan went above and beyond to try and fix it in short term, despite being extremely busy at that time. He did manage to get it going again which tied us over until the new year. He has recently installed a new boiler and at the same time made a number of upgrades to the whole central heating system which were overdue. In my view that is where the benefit comes in - using someone who knows and understands your heating system versus random heating engineers sent by British Gas. Alan explains the technical details well which makes you feel a bit more in control. The work was done with a high degree of professionalism to the agreed schedule and budget and I would be happy to recommend Alan to my friends.

New Viessmann Boiler

After deliberating for a long time finally decided it was time to change my old back boiler that had served me well for the last 25 years. Alan explained the options available to me before installation and his technical knowledge impressed me and where he could not answer a query he was open with me and he came back later with the answer. Alan estimated the work would take around 3 days and they did it in 2 days. Very high standard of work and did a few extras without charging me any additional amount. Was very pleased with the outcome.

I rang Alan when our wireless thermostat (and therefore central heating) stopped working just before Christmas. He kindly guided me over the phone how to put it right and came round a few days later to install a new thermostat. He also serviced our boiler and fixed a leaking radiator at the same time and then fitted a new filter tap in our kitchen, which turned out to be quite tricky. They were all long overdue jobs so we were very grateful, particularly to have a working kitchen tap again. I also appreciated the way he explained what needed doing and what it would entail.

Replacement of boilers

We contacted Alan as the Vaillant boiler installed in 2016 developed fault 28, it was the worst fault possible as it covered so many scenarios, and was out of guarantee. The most common fault replacing the PCB board failed, which was £250. The older Vaillant boiler same model was ok but 10 years old. Following a discussion the advice was to replace them both at the same time. We chose to install Worcester Bosch replacements as these had proved to be very reliable in our previous home and Alan had installed and serviced them. Alan sourced 2 Worcester Bosch boilers and gave us a quote the next day, Saturday, which was agreed and the work was completed on the following Friday, with a 10 year guarantee. On Friday morning he arrived on time and the job was completed by 4pm which included testing the system, completing the paperwork and clearing everything away leaving the place tidy. He completed the job without any fuss. Alan is always reliable, always texts to say what time he is coming. He has been our go to heating engineer/ plumber since 2010. I would not hesitate to recommend him.

Tricky pipework transfer from communal tank to mains

We had a job we'd been putting off for a while. Very old and fragile pipes connected to a communal tank needed to be disconnected and capped off, and new copper pipework needed to be run through from the mains. There were a few risks involved with this one, but there was no one else I would have trusted with it. Alan has serviced our boiler a couple of times and done another excellent plumbing job for us, and was the only person we considered for this job. Alan talked us through all the potential risks and gave us a competitive quote. He arrived on time and got the job done perfectly. An added bonus is that he's approachable, friendly and always takes the time to answer any questions you may have. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Replacement Boiler

We needed a new boiler and I contacted several suppliers, including asking for local recommended engineers and reading the Which? reports. I contacted Alan as he was recommended on Which? and he was very helpful, explaining everything clearly and patiently. He was very busy, but he fitted us into his schedule, came to check out the system and was able to give us a quote immediately, and confirmed by text. When the work was done, it was efficient and everything was cleaned up afterwards and he did not charge for checking out another problem which he investigated for us. Appointments were kept punctually and he called if delayed. Subsequently, we have had a leak in a joint connecting to the original pipes which he responded to and fixed very quickly, suggesting a long term solution. His prices were competitive, I valued his comments and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

Renew Heating and Hot Water System

As Which subscriber, when our existing 15-year-old boiler gave up and left us with no hot water or heating on 8th Jan 2022 we knew we had to replace the system. This was some of the coldest weather so far this winter. We checked online for approved traders and system manufacturers. We selected Worcester Bosch and chose what appeared to be two models which would suit our requirements. We then contacted Alan and explained our situation. Alan came to see us on Monday midday on10th Jan and looked at our requirements, advising us as to what was required to be done and to replace nine radiators as well as our boiler. He quoted us for replacing the boiler only and for replacing both boiler and radiators. When the chosen boiler could not be readily sourced Alan procured the latest Greenstar 8000 boiler and was able to start work on the Tuesday 18th Jan leaving us with hot water on Tuesday evening and finishing the install on Wed 19th Jan with full heating. At all times Alan was careful not to leave any mess and the pipework on all fittings was extremely neat. Alan gave us an explanation of how the boiler functioned and told us what to look out for regarding bleeding and topping up the system. All has been working well for a week now and we appreciate our newfound comfort. I would have no hesitation in recommending Alan Mack services to friends and neighbours.

I called Alan at a time of great vulnerability, during the pandemic in 2020. My wife is severely disabled, and we were shielding both her and her elderly mother. After a number of attempts to resolve our heating issues - even by a large, well known British supplier - our heating was still not working effectively. Our radiators were also beginning to pinhole, and there were other odd issues that no one would come out for. We had just said goodbye to a plumber who had hospitalised himself by not wearing appropriate safety gear. Then along came Alan Mack. He was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and helpful to the point of explaining everything I didn't understand, in terms I could. He took a single day to resolve every plumbing issue we had, route our pipes properly, replace 7 radiators, and convert our gravity-fed system to pressurised. To my shame, it has taken me more than a year to get around to leaving this review. We have never had to call him back, but we would not hesitate to call him again, or to recommend his services to anyone.
