As Mr and Mrs Slade so graciously point out, mistakes are made, even in the best run businesses. However, this was an oversight which should never be made, because as a final check the installers should measure the new window against the old window before taking it out, to ensure a survey error has not been made. But the very fact that we make so very few survey errors can lead to complacency, as happened in this case, and will certainly not happen again. A second point indirectly raised is the distance to this particular supplier, and the potential two week wait for a re-make, which was in practice reduced to a few days. This particular supplier is in Devon and supplies quality local installers throughout Britain, being a leading 'super-fabricator', which we use because of its constant multi-million pound investment in product development and production technology, which in our view no local company can match. This investment in quality is one of the reasons we get constantly good quality reviews, including indeed from Mr and Mrs Slade. Following this incident this supplier is reviewing their flexibility and speed when such an urgent re-make requirement arises, because though it has the same policy as us, that ultimate quality must never suffer because of undue haste, in this case quality was maintained with the haste which we fully accept was indeed due.
