It was very nice to find a local company that was also interested in doing smaller jobs. I had 3 light fittings changed and a problematic electric shower resolved. Mike and Alex did all the required checks during the work and explained what the problem was and how it needed to be resolved. Very friendly and tidy, and good value. I will definitely be using them again, and also recommend them to anyone who asks me if I know of a good electrician. Thanks guys the shower now works!

Having moved into my new home, it was apparent there were numerous electrical issues. Mike and Alex were able to identify all concerns and provide quotes for the work. Essentially the house needed a major upgrade and making it safe. They were clean, considerate and always on time. I feel much safer now that the work has completed and continue to use them for other electrical needs including garden lighting and sockets, utility room updates and changes and new hanging lighting. Would recommend 100%!!

All work was neatly and professionally carried out and we'll be happy to use their services again if or when required. It had previously been difficult to get an electrician to even respond to our enquiries so this year we chose the company from Which? Trusted Trader and are glad to have done so.

We called Mike to help replace a bathroom light fitting that one of our housemates had attempted to DIY. Mike and Alex were so friendly and we laughed about how common a call out this was (their van even says Don't DIY on the side)! Our house is quite old and has some creative wiring in places, but they checked and tested everything thoroughly to ensure it was safe before fitting the new light with no problems. Quick, tidy, professional and a pleasure to deal with. We would thoroughly recommend Better Heating and Lighting and will be keeping their details should we need any more work.

I picked Mike’s firm because of the excellent reviews on this site and wasn’t disappointed. He and his son worked as a team to find and repair the fault, doing so swiftly and explaining what had happened and what they were doing to fix it. An absolute find and I’m sure I’ll use them again.

A new consumer unit was fitted together with other electrical jobs, the work was done in a very professional manner, clean tidy work, on schedule and to the original estimate, great communication and aftercare supplying certificates etc. Highly Recommended

We had Mike and his son upgrade our very old fuse box. They carried out the work to time and to quote and we very much appreciated the thoroughness with which they carried out the work. Felt like our new flat had had an electrical MOT by the time they had finished. They tidied up after themselves and were a pleasure to deal with and friendly to boot. Definitely recommend them.

Michael and Alex carried out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) on the circuits contained in our old plastic consumer unit and subsequently installed a new ten way, high integrity, dual RCD, fire rated consumer unit. Whilst doing this they found some faults, such as hazardous wiring, rodent chewed cable etc. and fixed them on the spot. The charges for the work seemed fair to us and they were very prompt in addressing the problems as they were uncovered, in quoting and in sending appropriate paperwork. Michael explained each step and was very clear and helpful. We felt we were in safe hands. We phoned him when we had a concern after a visit and he was helpful and reassuring. He and his son Alex are prompt, efficient, clear up after work effectively and are charming people who do an excellent job. Highly recommend this company.

Michael, the proprietor of Better Heating and Lighting Ltd was recommended via my cousin for an issue we'd lived with for years. From the get go our dialogue was open, honest and friendly; one could say that through our initial interaction we qualified each other as to whether we were a good fit for the endeavour ahead. Working with his youngest son, apprenticing under his father, what struck us mostly is Michael's passion for his profession; a professional who enjoys explains the whys and wherefores of everything that he is doing for his client, a knowledgeable polite engaging cordial communicative specialist - what a pleasure, what an oasis in a desert of skilled trader mediocrity! Summary of Works: Recessed lighting removed from the ceiling and inspected. Cause of the flickering lights - burning of the wires due very poor connections at each fitting! This required a rewire as the cables were too short to ensure proper connections in insulated enclosures. All lamp holders were replaced and new energy efficient LED lamps installed. The dangling cables feeding the light switch were rewired and hidden behind our wood panelling and the switch installed in a better location. Our security lights which had been connected directly behind a ring main socket - very dangerous, was rewired and a 5amp fused double pole switch spur unit for both security lights installed. Due a loose earth connection one of the dual socket outlet in the utility room was also replaced. Time: 1 day.

My tenants called me on a Sunday evening to report a problem with the smoke alarms at the property. They kept going off intermittently for no apparent reason, causing a lot of noise! I called Mike to explain the issue, and within 30mins, he was at the property. He investigated the issue and managed to stop the problem. I would definitely recommend his services.

Mr Gilbert came to install a new oven for me. He identified that the property was not properly earthed, gave me a clear explanation of the issue, and explained how best to resolve it. He subsequently returned to earth the fuse box and install the new cooker. He ensured safety standards were met, whilst also being sensitive to the layout of the kitchen and limiting damage to decoration. The final invoice matched his initial estimate. In summary, I found Mr Gilbert to be prompt, efficient, and kind. I would certainly be happy to use his services again.

Mike of Better Heating and Lighting has taken care of our electrics for probably more than 15 years, so that probably speaks for itself in terms of our faith in the thoroughness and safety of their work. Most recently they have provided electric sockets etc for a new fitted bedroom. As usual, the work was completed when we needed it and to a high standard.

It’s very hard to find an electrician to come and do small jobs however Michael Gilbert did! He texted me to say what time he would arrive and was here on time. A very courteous and professional man who solved the problem of installing a double switch to 6 spotlights instead of a single. He also mended another spotlight and a broken dimmer switch. Michael had the spare parts in his van so didn’t have to go and buy them which was an added bonus. He was very respectful of my newly painted walls when moving his ladder and kit. I would highly recommend him for any electrical work.

Having used Trusted Traders myself on an earlier occasion, I suggested she ring them Better Heating and Lighting, a local Ealing electrician for a quotation. Mike Gilbert and his son arrived within the day, explained what needed doing and [provided her with a price which she thought was fair given the extent of the work. Mike promised to do the job within the week. Two days later, true to his word, Mike and his team returned to complete the work. My cousin rang me today to say how pleased with the job and the care and concern Mike showed for her predicament. She is delighted with the work and feels much less stressed at the prospect of having to work in her kitchen with such poor lighting. She would definitely recommend Better Heating and Lighting not only for their prompt response but also for their polite and caring manner.

I had been without electricity in my loft over Christmas and having tried checking the fuse box, was out of ideas. Mike and his son came round and immediately identified the problem, explained it to me, fixed it, and advised me on further work I could do to improve my electrics. I was struck by the pride they took in their work and the enormous knowledge they had. I was also of course delighted that they were able to solve the problem so quickly, if alarmed at the shoddy workmanship if the people who had done the initial work.

Great work installing highly fashionable but complex ceiling lights in our living room and kitchen. Prompt responses, careful work and clearly masters of their trade.

I think this is the fourth time I've used Mike (and sometimes Benjamin) over the years. Once again they turned up exactly when they said they would, completed the work quickly and to high quality (quite a long list, including replacement of some light fittings indoors and out) and left the place clean and tidy, for which they charged a fair and transparent price. I needed a new power socket in the cellar, run from the consumer unit. Michael and Benjamin came round at the time that they said they would, did a preliminary test of the system, gave me a reasonable estimate and once I'd accepted it, completed the job rapidly. This is the second time I have used Mike and his son Ben and am very pleased with the work they have completed. They disconnected an old cooker and reconnected another. Also gave advice with regard to some previous poor rewiring (done by someone else). All work carried out promptly and in good time and break down of charges explained. I would highly recommend them.

I needed a new light fitting. Michael and his son Ben arrived promptly with a new light. Because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, Michael gave me several choices via email and was very clear about costs. They fitted the new light with a dimmer switch. They also double checked my electricity as there were loose connections in the consumer unit - the latter was done for no extra charge. Michael and Ben had the light fitted and the kitchen tidy within about an hour. It was brilliant. I've very happy with their work and would recommend them 100%.

Mike and his son were very helpful, good at communicating and undertook the work very professionally. 5 months later I had one small problem which Mike came and fixed promptly and without charge. This father & son electrical team done the rewiring of my Hall, Bathroom & testing all the other wiring in my flat. They are friendly, reliable & know their trade very well. They know all the latest updated regulations & do explain what is needed to do a good job. The quality of work is excellence. I will certainty use them again for any electrical work to do.

Mike & Ben did remedial work in our electrical wiring following their inspection of the wiring earlier in May. They did a thorough & meticulous job, and kept us fully informed about what they were doing, including making a diagram of the wiring for us. Their charge was very reasonable - lower than I expected.

In addition to renewing and improving the lighting in the kitchen did a complete and detailed electrical survey of the whole (oldish) house and installed a new fuse board. Michael and his son are a great team and couldn't have been more helpful without being pushy. We are very pleased with their standard of work and will certainly continue using them.

I discovered Mike and his son Benjie last year - and I'm so glad I did. They've repaired a badly installed (by someone else) smoke alarm that refused to stop beeping however thoroughly it was disconnected; installed security lighting; made sense of a mass of cabling and managed to remove most of it - you wouldn't believe how different it looks under my desk now - and fitted new wall lights, always explaining carefully what they were doing and why. They're friendly, thoughtful, expert, turn up when they say they will and are a pleasure to work with.
