Chalk & Brown

We contracted Chalk & Brown to paint the woodwork - skirting, door frames, door, staircases etc. throughout our house, having had major construction work last year. They were punctual and quick, and completed the job on schedule. Furthermore they made hardly any mess and the paintwork is excellent. They also filled and repaired areas which we weren't expecting, to leave the house looking brilliant. I would recommend them without hesitation.

I found Chalk and Brown through the Which? Trusted Traders website and was very very impressed with their work for me. The job was a small one, just repainting my front door, but everything was done perfectly. What stood out was how they went the extra mile with everything: they repainted, free of charge, the surrounding door frame when this wasn't included in the quote, they repaired some rotten wood on moulding that surrounds one of the door panels and this looks as good as new, and they removed all the ironwork (locks, door knocker etc.) on the door to paint everything, rather than just putting masking tape on the ironwork and paint around it. The quality of the job was significantly better than what the original firm of builders did when they first painted it. They were also a pleasure to have in the house doing the work - they came when they said would complete the job to the timeframe they said it would take and were professional throughout. I will definitely use Chalk and Brown again if/when I have other painting and decorating work that needs doing and would recommend them to others too.

Gary and Paul came highly recommended by a friend. We had a couple of other quotes from other companies, which were cheaper, but we liked the fact that it was them that would be doing the work, plus they were very thorough when they came to recce the rooms to be decorated, with helpful suggestions. They were fantastic! I have said to them a few times that they should have 'decorators x magicians' on their van. They are very neat and tidy, extremely professional and hard working. The quality of their work is exceptional and the standard of the finish definitely 5*. They decorated our kitchen including making hairline cracks disappear, a spare room with a hole in the ceiling and plaster off the wall (both of which 'disappeared') plus matched some missing picture rail, and did some carpentry and painting work in a cupboard under the stairs. They made every room 100% better. Gary and Paul were a pleasure to have around (and I've not said that about decorators before!) and lovely people to get to know. We couldn't recommend them more highly.

Chalk and Brown (Gary & Paul) impressed me from the beginning when they both visited my house in October 2020 to ascertain the nature of the work, which consisted of repainting all the woodwork on the front and rear of the property. This visit was followed quickly by a quotation. The work took two weeks and I am very pleased with the result. Gary and Paul are meticulous craftsmen and take a great deal of care and pleasure in their work. As might be expected, some rot was discovered in the original wood, but they took great care in treating the problem. This treatment incurred an extra cost, but this was discussed and agreed upon beforehand. I recommend the company extremely highly.

Chalk and Brown were excellent. They finished the work within the time schedule and to a very high standard. There work was faultless. They adhered to all Covid standards all the time. We would certainly recommend them and use them again for any future work we might need.

Chalk and Brown were recommended to us by our plumber. The work was originally planned for April, but cancelled due to covid. They kept in touch throughout the summer, which was reassuring. They redecorated our hall, stairs, landing and loft room stairs, which included removing some ancient wood chip wallpaper, and the work was completed on time and on budget, and is perfect. Given that several family members were WFH, the area they were working in meant that we all had to work round each other to get around the house, but they couldn’t have been nicer about things! I would definitely use them again.

The kitchen refresh was the third job Chalk & Brown has completed for me. As usual, they were punctual, went about their work in clean and tidy manner and left no mess at the end of each day. They are professional decorators who take pride in their work and take the time to ensure they deliver a fantastic job. They are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for: quality and excellent craftmanship.

Chalk & Brown painted the exterior of our 2-story block of flats in August 2020. All work was done to a very high standard, with a detailed statement of work, quality materials and no fuss. They are honest, flexible, highly experienced and a pleasure to work with. I would certainly recommend them.

Gary & Paul were recommended to us and, as we told them many times this week while they were here us, for that we will be forever grateful! They are a friendly and hard working team getting such a lot done in a day and the results are wonderful.
