Gary and Paul did an excellent job. I’m fussy and they did an excellent job. That’s how good they are. I have nothing bad to say as all the other reviews say it all and I’d just be repeating it all. Book them in and you’ll see. We are already booking next three rooms to do. Will have to wait, but we can be patient.

We highly recommend Chalk and Brown, the only caveat being that they do such a good job and are honest about timescales so there may be a long wait to get them but it is worth it! We have seen their van in our area over the years and tried them for the first time ourselves to paint and make good a large attic room and two bathrooms, this included making and fixing a back board for a curtain rail. Work was completed with care within agreed timescales using good quality products and employing equipment my husband envies - sander with vacuum cleaner which meant no dust crept anywhere. We are already trying to book them for external work and more decorating inside! Yes they are not the cheapest but they are value for money.

Gary and Paul redecorated a number of rooms in our house including hall , landing and stairs. Their work is of exceptional quality. They work really hard, expertly prepping all walls and ceilings before painting. It's a quality job . They are always on time, are extremely friendly and always clear up at the end of each day. This is the second time we have used Chalk & Brown. They decorated one floor of our house (two bedrooms and a bathroom). Why we use them? 1. They are complete professionals who works to the highest standards and always do an excellent job 2. They are completely self sufficient 3. They are very pleasant people to deal with They are not the cheapest but I've found you get what you pay for. Would recommend them without hesitation and will use them again. Because of their reputation Gary and Paul are always very busy so be aware you may have a long lead-time for their services.

Local company with full ICI accreditation that completed the work quickly, cleanly and to an extremely high standard. their work is a credit to them. I would always recommend them, although we will be having more painting work in the future so will have to start booking them now! Nice chaps also.

We engaged Chalk & Brown to redecorate the exterior windows, doors and porch of our Victorian home. We were aware of some areas of rotten timber so it was important to hire a firm that could provide both carpentry and decoration expertise. To borrow one of Gary’s sayings, Chalk & Brown were “not the cheapest, but…” we felt that they would treat the property with the care it deserves, work with us to preserve its original features and, in the long run, be good value for money because their work would stand the test of time / the weather. We were not disappointed. Communication was excellent. The quality of the workmanship was superb. Gary & Paul worked long hours and consistently went the extra mile, even fixing two of our gates (not part of the project brief). We really enjoyed their company and hope to work with them again soon.

This is the third time we have used Chalk and Brown over the 24 years we have used Chalk and Brown to pain the outside of our house- and they turn up on time work very hard and long hours to get the job done. I have recommended them to other neighbours and in fact they came recommended to me from a friend.

Gary and Paul are perfectionists. They prepare every surface thoroughly before undercoat and paint. The most recent job was painting the exterior of our house, which is partly rendered, and it now looks terrific. They are incredibly reliable, hardworking and professional. We have been using them for more than 20 years for internal and external painting and decorating. Chalk & Brown workmanship is superb and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Work included preparation of all surfaces for painting, including plugging ceiling holes (from electrical work), sealing skirting boards. Painting of all surfaces. Work was excellent, very thorough, professional and friendly throughout. Always discussed options and listened to our requirements. Fantastic job!

Chalk & Brown were recommended to us and this is the second time we have used them (now for both external and internal decorating work). Their work is efficient, thorough, tidy and of a very high quality. The detail and finish of their work is excellent (having had different experiences with other firms previously). Cheerful and polite they are a pleasure to work with. We would absolutely use them again and happily recommend them to friends and family.

I've used Chalk and Brown(Gary and Paul) now for over 30 years - as long as I've been a member of Which. I have used them for both external and internal decoration- probably every part of the house . Last week they finished decorating for me a conservatory, bedroom, dining room , kitchen and utility room , in 9 days . This involved making good walls after new windows had been fitted and new electric wiring chased into walls then painting , as well as painting wardrobes. The quality of finish is superb and I have already booked them for external work in summer and further internal work in winter. They turn up for work on time and work efficiently throughout the day .They use modern equipment ( e.g. large suction devices linked to sanders to reduce dust produced to virtually nil),which reduces the time taken to prep surfaces to be painted and leave your house every evening in a tidy and usable state . They are hard working and skilful craftsmen- and very nice people. Last Autumn I had another company decorate a room ( Chalk and Brown were fully booked and I was impatient to have the work done). This was an OK result - but not nearly as good as C and B's last week . I've now said to my wife I don't care how long I have to wait for them , I'm not having anyone other than Chalk and Brown do our future decorating .

Gary and Paul have just finished decorating the entire downstairs of our house. The work was carried out to a very high standard and we are extremely pleased with the result. Completion was within the timeframe scheduled and on budget, save for some small additional items requiring attention after the commencement of the work. Easy to have around the house; clean, tidy and thoroughly professional. The best decorating job we’ve ever had done with impressive attention to detail. We will definitely use them for new projects, and have already asked them to quote for two new jobs. Highly recommended.

We’ve used C&B on three occasions for external and internal work. We have been hugely impressed. The standard of work is excellent, starting with meticulous preparation before painting. The end result has been first class every time. Gary and Paul are friendly and polite, they are as unobtrusive as possible and always clear up very thoroughly. Very highly recommended.

Chalk and Brown painted the outside of an 1860s house - woodwork, masonry and refurbished the finish on some external oak doors. The thoroughness, care and attention to detail was exemplary - no short cuts taken. Time keeping and communication was good at all times, and they are very pleasant people indeed to have on site. Highly recommended.

Chalk & Brown undertook the redecorating of the exterior of my house. They arranged the scaffolding so I didn't need to get involved in that which made life easier for me. I was provided with a clear and comprehensive quote at the outset and there was no subsequent variation. There were no extra costs added which was great. They were very reliable and turned up every day until the job was completed. They didn't disappear off at any stage. I had their undivided attention. Both the preparatory work and the actual painting were done in a very thorough and professional manner. The quality of the finished product was excellent. They were considerate and not intrusive in any way. They cleaned up afterwards and left everything as it was before. Definitely top marks on all fronts. Very friendly and straightforward. I will use them again in the future and recommend them to my friends and neighbours.

Painted exterior of three storey Victorian house including stone work, guttering, eaves, rear glazed screen and sashes. They arranged for scaffolding. Repairs were undertaken to rotten timber which was quoted before work was undertaken as the repairs were substantial and expensive but a lot cheaper than replacing the gable ends and rotten window cills so well worth it. The finished work made the house look totally refurbished. The two men worked non-stop, only pausing for spells of rain rather than taking days out. They kept an organised and tidy site, cleaning up each day. They were polite, courteous and not at all intrusive while in the house. Altogether an excellent firm who I will use again.

We contracted Chalk & Brown to paint the woodwork - skirting, door frames, door, staircases etc. throughout our house, having had major construction work last year. They were punctual and quick, and completed the job on schedule. Furthermore they made hardly any mess and the paintwork is excellent. They also filled and repaired areas which we weren't expecting, to leave the house looking brilliant. I would recommend them without hesitation.

I found Chalk and Brown through the Which? Trusted Traders website and was very very impressed with their work for me. The job was a small one, just repainting my front door, but everything was done perfectly. What stood out was how they went the extra mile with everything: they repainted, free of charge, the surrounding door frame when this wasn't included in the quote, they repaired some rotten wood on moulding that surrounds one of the door panels and this looks as good as new, and they removed all the ironwork (locks, door knocker etc.) on the door to paint everything, rather than just putting masking tape on the ironwork and paint around it. The quality of the job was significantly better than what the original firm of builders did when they first painted it. They were also a pleasure to have in the house doing the work - they came when they said would complete the job to the timeframe they said it would take and were professional throughout. I will definitely use Chalk and Brown again if/when I have other painting and decorating work that needs doing and would recommend them to others too.

Gary and Paul came highly recommended by a friend. We had a couple of other quotes from other companies, which were cheaper, but we liked the fact that it was them that would be doing the work, plus they were very thorough when they came to recce the rooms to be decorated, with helpful suggestions. They were fantastic! I have said to them a few times that they should have 'decorators x magicians' on their van. They are very neat and tidy, extremely professional and hard working. The quality of their work is exceptional and the standard of the finish definitely 5*. They decorated our kitchen including making hairline cracks disappear, a spare room with a hole in the ceiling and plaster off the wall (both of which 'disappeared') plus matched some missing picture rail, and did some carpentry and painting work in a cupboard under the stairs. They made every room 100% better. Gary and Paul were a pleasure to have around (and I've not said that about decorators before!) and lovely people to get to know. We couldn't recommend them more highly.

Chalk and Brown (Gary & Paul) impressed me from the beginning when they both visited my house in October 2020 to ascertain the nature of the work, which consisted of repainting all the woodwork on the front and rear of the property. This visit was followed quickly by a quotation. The work took two weeks and I am very pleased with the result. Gary and Paul are meticulous craftsmen and take a great deal of care and pleasure in their work. As might be expected, some rot was discovered in the original wood, but they took great care in treating the problem. This treatment incurred an extra cost, but this was discussed and agreed upon beforehand. I recommend the company extremely highly.

Chalk and Brown were excellent. They finished the work within the time schedule and to a very high standard. There work was faultless. They adhered to all Covid standards all the time. We would certainly recommend them and use them again for any future work we might need.
