I have a period-built 1806 cottage that had a damp ingress issue on the lower rear wall. I wanted a contractor familiar with this type of period construction, appropriate materials, and methods. I got a few quotes from various specialists who quoted for remedial work to the wall, but Alex from Coastal Wall Ties was the only one to thoughtfully consider and assess the issue, identifying the root cause. Alex arrived promptly and is a very likeable, professional, and knowledgeable person who kept me informed and discussed options and progress at every stage. Alex suggested that just repairing the wall alone would be unlikely to fully solve the problem and demonstrated how pooling water was seeping into the wall. He suggested fabricating lead gullies and flashing to direct the rainfall away from the wall, which would then be restored with traditional lime mortar. Alex arrived on time every day for the 3 days it took to do the work. He got on with the job, no messing about, hardly taking a break, and wouldn't even take the offers of cups of tea; he left the site clean and tidy at the end of each day. The work was completed as forecast and as quoted. A great guy, I would highly recommend him and will not hesitate to get him back to do other work in the future

My daughter and son-in-law were having trouble fixing a leak coming from above an after-market downstairs bow window. It turned out that the fitters employed by the previous owner had covered and blocked the essential cavity tray weep vents, so instead of any rainwater penetrating the first layer of bricks being able to drain to the outside of the property, it was draining to the inside, causing severe damp. Alex had the inspired idea of putting a new cavity tray system just above the old one, thus resolving the problem. We were all impressed with Alex. He is friendly, knowledgeable, intelligent, and polite. He also turned up to do the work when he said he would, which was completed in a day at a fair price. The work was severely tested in the following days with driving rain, with the result that no water has come into the property. Based on the above, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Coastal Wall Ties Ltd.

We arranged for this company to repair and replace the wall ties on 2 walls. Alex came out and gave us an estimate after which we arranged a date when he could carry out the work. We had to wait a while as he’s booked up months in advance. He turned up on the date arranged and carried out the work to a very high standard. He was friendly and polite at all times and cleared up after completing the work. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

We had the front of our house repointed and the wall ties replaced by Alex, and he was a breath of fresh air. Not only did he actually turn up to do the job he promised to do, he was 5 minutes early! Haven’t had many trades do that over the last 3 years of renovating our house!! He worked tirelessly for 2 days and at the end of each day tidied up, not only outside our house but also the neighbours, as a little dust ended up on their drive, although there was a lot less dust than feared, as he used a big hoover attached to his tools, which was excellent. The house literally looks brand new and my worry that the mortar would be too pale and obvious was unfounded as Alex tinted it to make it blend beautifully with the age of our 1930s house. He was polite, informative when I asked questions and reassuring when I worried unnecessarily! Alex did a fantastic job repointing between 90 year old brickwork around my property which had been causing water ingress after many a heavy shower due to deterioration over a number of years. Outside looks like a new build now. Something that can certainly add value to a property. When work finished, you wouldn't have known Alex had been here as he certainly did a neat tidy up.

Alex replaced wall ties in the Southern wall of the house. Communication was great from the beginning. Alex came on time, explained in detail what will be done. The job was done greatly without any mess left. Important note, I got a feeling that he would not do anything that is unnecessary, just to charge more. He viewed the property before booking and said that only Southern wall needs to be done. I would hire him again in the future.

Alex is a reliable builder who turned up on time did an excellent job at the cost of the estimate in the budgeted time. Very impressed with his cleaning up afterwards. We are very happy with everything Alex did and would definitely recommend him.

Work carried out was timely and efficient. When we discovered the cavity wall insulation was soaking we realised that this was the cause of our serious damp problem. It’s a big job to remove it and requires serious hard work and patience. It’s also very noisy and messy. After the work was finished everything was cleaned up perfectly. We also had a wall tie issue. The ties were intact but rusting in the damp outer wall. This causes them to expand and crack the rendering. Alex located the old ties and capped them. New wall ties were then inserted. Again the work was done to the same standard.

We had Alex at Cavity Wall Ties undertake fitting new cavity wall ties, repointing and stormdry application to 2 walls of our semi-detached property. After rusted wall ties were identified Wow, what a service. From initial consultation and advice, survey and work. Not only does it look fantastic, but I am also sure that the walls will stand intact for years to come. The stormdry works well and every time it rains it is evident that the water is wicking away from the bricks. Alex worked during Lockdown to the outside of the property and when consulted was courteous and respected social distancing and was well prepared for working through covid. Great service and works, definitely recommend!

I thought I had problems with rising damp, and finally screwed up the courage to deal with it, expecting repairs to run into the thousands. Alex came round, spend a comprehensive amount of time checking out the problem, and said that it was caused by condensation, especially in the winter months. He explained how to deal with it - simple steps which I intend to follow, and getting a hydrometer which will keep an eye on the problem. Excellent work from Alex, very clean and tidy and always courteous and willing to discuss the work. Would highly recommend CWT for any repointing or brickwork. Having seen his work at another property I noted the tidy and clean nature of the work and searched for the company online. Remove cavity wall insulation and installation of new wall ties on rear elevation. Very knowledgable quote, given with no obligation or hard sell. Turned up on date / time agreed - and worked through some of the coldest days this year to complete the work. Kept us informed about what he found as he worked. Did a really thorough job, and workspace was very tidy throughout. Very polite and friendly. We are really pleased and would highly recommend this company.

A southern wall needed sealing to repel the rain & hopefully keep the inside a bit warmer. A good job was done with no mess nor fuss, for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this firm.

Alex renewed a number of wall ties & did some extra pointing for us - in the blazing sun. He managed to colour match the mortar brilliantly to the original. Excellent workmanship, friendly, neat and tidy, nothing was too much bother. It is rare to find a workman this good these days. I would highly recommend him.

We needed to have a catnic lintel installed above our living room window. The team arrived on time, and did a great job. They worked quickly and efficiently, removed the brickwork, installed lintel and replaced bricks using colour matched mortar. Very good finish. Highly recommended.
