I just got back from picking up my ageing Volvo from D J Garage Services at Great Amwell. The rear near-side brake calliper had seized up and was working its way through the disc. My usual garage was unavailable so I took the recommendations given by my daughter’s partner and Kwikfit and booked in with D J. I am so glad I did. They have been excellent in every respect and, all things considered, very good value. D J checked all the brakes and recommended that both rear brakes be seen to. I was happy to take this advice. The Volvo is a big heavy car and I want to know I can rely on it, especially when it comes to stopping! They found the parts and did the job within the day but I had to wait til this morning to get over to them, an easy enough trip given how close they are to St Margaret’s Station. It is always difficult when you have been with a garage 20 plus years and suddenly find yourself needing to find somewhere else you can trust but I would have no hesitation in recommending D J to anyone. They are courteous, professional and get the job done for a reasonable price. And it’s not often that, as a 73-year-old, you get addressed as a “Young man” by someone half your age! I have always used a main dealer before but I never will again! DJ’s are a lovely friendly local company with great expertise and knowledge of different types of cars. My service was also half the price the main dealer was going to charge!

Mini Cooper in urgent need of repair and service required. Investigation as to the fault was carried out. Work completed within 24 hours and one very satisfied customer. I was initially met by Chris and told him of the problem. I was kept informed throughout of the progress and was pleased to receive the phone call informing me that the car was ready for collection. I have been using DJs for over 8 years and trust them to such a degree I am about to move an hour's drive away and will still return to them for MOTs and servicing. They never suggest doing something unless it is needed and indeed, when I was told by a main dealer garage that my 3 year old car needed £2k of "urgent" work done to it, DJs reassured me that it did not. They have always given me accurate quotes when work has needed to be done, and it was always completed on time. Their customer service is always brilliant and they will go the extra mile to help out if they are able to. I would not trust anywhere else. Today they re-gassed my aircon, and checked to make sure it wasn't the compressor unit (it wasn't). The work was completed in under an hour and I received a prompt call to say my car was ready.

Took my car in for Cam belt fitting advice. I would not take my vehicle elsewhere. The reputation within the village of this garage is outstanding. This is because Chris and his team genuinely offer customer-focused advice as opposed to promoting or encouraging costly repairs to benefit their own agenda as a business. Unfortunately, I have since moved from the village however will make the journey back to Chris and his team should my car need work.

DJ carried out diagnostic work on my car and did not charge me a penny which is fantastic in this day and age. They were extremely helpful and I was very grateful for this. I thoroughly recommend the garage.

First impressions were very positive - friendly and welcoming with full explanation of what could be done. I collected the car and was equally impressed with full explanation of what had been done. I was recommended to this garage by a local tyre fitter this week. I couldn’t be happier. I feel I now have a ‘go to’ garage I can trust. On this occasion, I needed an air conditioning re-gas. Chris explained they would complete the full cycle of removal of old gas, drying out the system and then refilling, rather than just topping up like a lot of places do. I took the car in at lunchtime and my son followed me down to take me home. I mentioned to Chris that he was travelling back to Uni in Nottingham in the morning and that would he kindly be able to get someone to check his tyre pressures. Not only did the gentleman do this, he then popped the bonnet and checked all the engine levels too. A garage that is friendly, trustworthy and that goes above and beyond. I will be using them for all future issues for myself and my son!

I was recommended DJ Garage Services by friends in Stanstead Abbotts. I was welcomed courteously by members of staff and shown the office. I explained the problems with my car boot catch and back windscreen wiper. I received an update telephone call to tell me they had found the fault in the wiring to the back wiper and had ordered the boot catch which would be in that day. By 4pm, I had another call to say the car was ready. Such wonderful service and so nice to have a trustworthy car garage in my village. Thank you DJ's.

Car was slowly losing water. Problem was diagnosed. Parts (gaskets) were ordered and the work was done three days later.

Last year I had trouble with one of my tyres loosing air pressure! I’d been to two previous garages that advised me to just pump it up as there wasn’t anything wrong despite the warning lights coming on in the dashboard. I was still worried and having recently moved areas I spotted D J Garage. I drove in and immediately my tyre was looked at and the steering wheel turned and the mechanic discovered there was a nail imbedded in the centre of the tyre. He immediately repaired it there and then! I was very relieved and thankful. I booked my MOT and service with them and today the work was completed, efficiently. The staff are very approachable. The booking was easy. At last I have found a garage I can trust Thank you D J Garages. Five star service.

After such a good experience using D J Garage Services for last year's MOT and major service, I had no hesitation in telephoning them last week for advice regarding a knocking sound that had developed with my car. I was booked in for a 12 noon appointment and the problem was diagnosed immediately I arrived at the garage as a broken front suspension spring. They fully explained the work that was required. Needing to keep the car, they gave me a lift home, ordered and fitted the parts that afternoon and delivered the car back to my home by 4.30pm! I was so impressed!! Many thanks to all the team for the kindness shown and for your continued friendly, efficient and excellent service!

I have used the services of DJ for many years going back to when they were located in Ware. I have always found them helpful, efficient and a pleasure to deal with. The latest invoice was for a standard service, carried out in good time and to a high standard. But it is not just the annual car service and MOT, whatever the problem the company will always make time to investigate and carry out any repair work efficiently. I have never had to consider challenging the cost of work carried out.

I've used DJs for near enough 20 years after seeing how good they are with my mum! No one else comes close for honesty, integrity or decency. Even to a layman like myself you absolutely know they're doing the best by you, keeping both parts and labour costs as low as you could ever hope for and working more quickly, efficiently and transparently than you'd ever think possible. It's a lovely family business and I'd never go anywhere else. In fact, I tried when I moved house years ago, but poor experiences at the hands of others came thick and fast, so now I just make the journey back to them every time I'm in need of help and genuinely cannot recommend them highly enough.

I can't recommend these guys enough. After a horrendous experience a year ago with an AA approved/partnered garage, I was watching reviews closely to find a reliable local service. DJ's certainly lived up to their reputation. My car went in for its MOT and yr 5 services today and was ready in a few hours with everything done. Last year I was told my car was undrivable unless I paid over £1K of charges (later disproved by an independent assessor). This year I got a very efficient and professional service and nobody tried to take the car hostage. The service was easy, friendly and professional and at a very fair price. I would recommend these guys to everyone, especially female motorists who have experienced poor or judgemental service in the past.

Very pleased to have found D J Garage Services following a recommendation from a neighbour. When booking my car in for a Full Service, MOT and Air Con Check, it was good to be able to discuss the service requirements with someone so knowledgeable. The collection/return service from my home address worked extremely well and a progress call was made by the garage during the day. First time at the garage, which was recommended by neighbours. I took my car in this morning without a booking enquiring about a minor repair in the hope it would be fixed today. I was greeted by friendly faces & a polite team, who I had never met before. They offered to squeeze my car in between other bookings, which was very accommodating. I took a nice stroll into Stansted Abbott’s and by the time I returned with my shopping, my car was on the ramp being repaired. During that time I got to meet Darcy the garage dog who is the friendliest and cutest dog I've ever met. She’s part of the team and another positive to my experience at the garage today. The team are incredibly friendly, efficient and there is a lovely community vibe. From this experience I would be happy to return for further MOT’s & repairs in the future.

DJ's carried out a full annual service and MOT today. My car was delivered at 7.30 am and I received a call before 11.00 to advise me it was ready for collection. I have used this firm for nearly twenty years, at their previous location and now in Stanstead Abbotts. It's a family-run business and they are as friendly and genuine as they are efficient.

My car was making a terrible grinding noise every time I pressed on the brakes so I stopped at DJ garage after dropping the kids at school. I was told that they were really busy today but could fit me in tomorrow. I think he could see the look of desperation on my face as well as telling me that it was very dangerous to continue driving so managed to get the work all done and dusted before school pick up. Great service and reasonably priced. Lovely staff!! I highly recommend and will definitely be using them again.

Took my old “Classic” in for some tyres, mot and service. The whole experience was excellent. From the start it was nice to talk to someone who understood my questions, rather than a generic call handler. All of the work was done to a high standard and the advice given was much appreciated and saved me from unnecessarily replacing parts that just needed some good old fashioned maintenance. They replaced some suspension components and serviced the braking system plus I had new tyres recommended and and fitted, which has transformed the ride from concrete to magic carpet (for a 35 year old car). All for a very reasonable bill at the end. 10/10 for everything - thanks

It is always good to be able to deal directly with the hands-on proprietor rather than a receptionist at the main dealer. Having previously used DJ's for all servicing of my vehicle, and always been very satisfied with the outcome, following the purchase of a new vehicle I was suckered into buying a 2-year service plan from the dealer. This experience allowed me to really appreciate what differentiates DJ's in particular from the main dealers. When dealing with the team at DJ's I have repeatedly been impressed by their honest, trustworthy and efficient service that is delivered in a very friendly manner. Following recent damage to my vehicle that required a replacement part, further to an onsite inspection, I was contacted within a short space of time with an estimate that included the industry guidelines in terms of the four man hours required. Having agreed to the work, on collecting the vehicle I was advised that the work had been completed in just 2.5 hours, with the corresponding positive impact on the final invoice. I would recommend DJ's without hesitation to anyone for their vehicle servicing needs.

I was recommended to Chris and his team by a long term customer who has dealt with the team for many years. As I am out of the local area it was really important that I felt I could trust them. They gave me advice over the phone and suggested various courses of action that did not make them any money. I had a deadline for my cars work to be done and decided to take it to them. Just 24 hours after leaving the car with them they had been able to sort out the issue and at a lower cost than anticipated. I asked them to do some servicing work and they were able to keep the car a few more days to do this. When I came to pickup my A8 I was very surprised at how great and honest my final bill was. Other garages in the past have managed to inflate the bill or add extra work without consulting me. Chris was always there to take my call, answer my questions and finally give me a bill which was 100% sensible. I have now left my wife's car with them and am sure I will receive the same kind and thoughtful service and sensible bill again when the work is done. I cannot recommend highly enough this garage, if you can get to them you will not regret it. After all of the poor experiences I have had in the last 30+ years of motoring D J Garage is a wonderful breath of fresh air which I wish all car owners could have.

In the last 50 years, I have used many garages but this one is up with the best. Doesn't matter which make of car, new or old they have always given me good service. Over the last 20years just once was there a small problem. One phone call and without hesitation they came and collected the car and returned it to the door all sorted. It's a family run business rather than one of these big shiny outfits that I often found would squeeze whatever money they could from you via those little extras. The big outfits send you a video of the underside of the car after every MOT which really does nothing at all for the customer as they try to look flashy. So forgo the video and expect a job well done at a fair price

The nearest Citroen garage carried out a brake system software update on our DS3 in response to a safety recall. The car developed an engine problem causing it to judder and loose power. Called into our local D J Garage to see if they could help. They were friendly and helpful as always and tried hard to identify the problem. However, the software in the car had been corrupted and D J Garage were unable to access the system to resolve the problem but were able to advise us on how to deal with it. D J Garage declined to charge us for their work. Following D J Garage's advice, we were able to get the car back to the Citroen garage where they managed to establish via remote access by the Citroen technical people that the update had corrupted the fuel management software and then to remotely to replace the software. We thoroughly recommend D J Garage for the knowledge, quality of work, and helpfulness. Were are lucky to have such an outfit in our locality.

I have used G & D for the annual servicing and MOT test of my cars for some 15 years, and this clearly demonstrates that they have provided an efficient, reliable, fast, and courteous service.

Following an Engine Malfunction warning and loss of power I contacted D J Garage Services who were able to book me in for the following day. They identified that one of the fuel injectors had failed which they replaced. A new fuel return rail was also required which the main dealer could not provide until the following day otherwise I would have had the car back within the day. On collection I was advised that it was possible that one or more of the other injectors could possibly fail at any time. Helpful to be forewarned. All the team I spoke to were very helpful and straight forward. I considered the charge to be very reasonable. The car has been serviced from new by the main dealer but I will be using D J Garages in future.

Booked our car in for its first service, after being recommended DJ Garage Services by friends. This was during COVID so we managed to get it booked in within the week. They explained they would order in the genuine parts in advance and gave us a rough idea of the price. Dropped the car off first thing on the day and the car was ready by lunchtime. Detailed invoice, and only did the work that was required/requested. Reasonably priced too. Would recommend and return.

When you take your car to DJ's you get a reassuring feeling that you're not getting ripped off. There's none of this "oh X needed doing" and "Y needs attention" and "Z is out of alignment", you get an honest assessment that you can feel confident in. I have been using this garage for the past few years. They are professional, honest and the best I have ever known. My car that has been hibernating for the past few years have came out for a mot. As I assumed it needed few things doing to it. When they called me to say my car was ready I didn't ask about how much, what was wrong, all those anxious questions as I have complete faith. They do fantastic work in all great timely fashions depending on the need of ones transport needs. They certainly put the customers needs and musts first and their Darling dog provides the best customer care and entertainment.

i have just returned to using DJ after locating back to the area. I have used them for many years in the past and I am delighted to say that their standard of service, openness and honesty together with the quality of their workmanship has not changed, if anything has got better. i have no hesitation in recommending them.

DJ Garage Services were recommended to me by members of our family. Our previous garage had given up on solving an oil sensor problem on our Volvo C30 after several costly (for me) attempts. DJ took the trouble to contact Volvo Technical Services twice and fixed the problem same day. When we took the Volvo C30 in for a service and MOT, I mentioned that there had been an annoying knocking sound for nine years when driving on bumpy roads, but at least four garages (including TWO Volvo dealers) had been unable to locate the problem. DJ found the problem and subsequently fitted a new suspension part. It's now a pleasure to drive the car again. We will continue to use DJ - they have friendly and professional staff and have charged me fair prices.

Our car failed to start and was towed to DJ. They diagnosed the problem and fixed it in their usual efficient and friendly way.

During the past month I have had two older cars serviced and MOT'ed at DJ Garage Services, a problem with central locking system on a third car investigated and resolved, plus some headlight bulbs fitted. On all occasions the team there have been very friendly and professional. All the work was completed same day without any problems. I would have no problem at all to recommend this garage to anyone. Excellent service and workmanship.

Courteous, always keep you in the loop, clear explanations and choices, value for money, absolutely wonderful and first class service. This time it was a breakdown and I gave the garage zero notice, my car was recovered to them at 4pm, and they still managed to get everything fixed (plus the annual MOT and service completed!) by the end of the following day.

Booked the day before: rear nearside door handle had been wrenched off plus an intermittent fault with a reversing light. Both items were effectively and satisfactorily put right. I always find DJ highly trustworthy, knowledgeable and accessible. I'm always confident in recommending DJ to friends and acquaintances.

I forget how long we've been using DJ Garages but it must be around 20 years or something. They are the only garage we consider when we have to have our cars MOT'd, serviced or repaired and that's despite moving out of the local area over 7 years ago! Why? They've never let us down, always provide great comms, do a great job and the prices are very reasonable. Underneath it all, Chris and Vince are just really nice guys and it shows in their business - I'd definitely recommend this garage to anyone.

I have been using this garage for a while and so grateful I came across it. They always give 100% putting their customers first. On this particular job, my beloved camper van engine cam shaft ceased shredding the cambelt on route to the New Forest. Got towed to the garage. Upon diagnosis and being consoled by their lovely dog, my campervan needed a new engine. After a long search finding a engine for an old camper we found one. Throughout the whole process the garage kept me up to date with the progress. They informed me the donor engine I had purchased in good faith had a few issues but they advised and we all agreed to take a slightly different approach, using parts of the donor engine to the original one. Luckily the bottom part of the engine had survived so we used the top part of the donor engine and all works well. My beloved campervan is back on the road all great. The garage are very reasonable and trustworthy and always gives possible realistic outcomes. It’s the best garage and the best dog I have ever known. The dog has 100% in customer services.

Our Nissan Micra - 2002 vintage developed a problem with the gear lever not returning to the neutral position. Apparently a spring on the end of the lever had broken. Rather than installing the expensive Nissan replacement DJ re-formed the existing spring and fashioned a bracket to make a repair. All done for £45.

Our Citroen Berlingo had an intermittent warning light appearing. D J spent some time testing things but could find no problem. They did not charge for their time. Some time later the light was on permanently and they diagnosed a faulty Exhaust Gas Recycling valve. This they replaced as a very reasonable cost. A week later the warning light appeared again. The new EGR valve was faulty and they replaced this immediately with no further charge.

MOT and service completed on a Nissan Micra (2002). All done to time and at a very reasonable price.

Chris and the team never fail to deliver careful service economically, and advice for free! Recommended without hesitation.

I popped into DJs as I had noticed my bumper was falling off. I expected them to tell me that it will need to be booked in etc but to my surprise, I was made a cup of tea while they looked at it. After 20 mins Chris said it was done - and it really was! I asked how much but they wouldn't take a penny (not even for the oil they topped up). It is very rare to find decent people nowadays but I will genuinely be bringing all my custom to them from now on. Thanks Chris, thanks Paul.

Took my Fiat 500 for its annual MOT and full service. As usual work carried out to my entire satisfaction, quickly and at a competitive price. A really first class firm, with everyone from Chris downwards very helpful and anxious to get things absolutely spot on from start to finish. Thoroughly recommended. Don't think you will find better in the district.

My exhaust fell off my car on the Bank Holiday weekend. I phoned Pippa after D J Garage Services was recommended to me by a friend. She was very helpful and quoted me a maximum price for the job and said it may be less if the exhaust could be fixed. I booked the car in and by the time I arrived, the spare part had already been delivered. The work was carried out quickly and efficiently and the bill was less than expected. Very helpful staff and friendly too. Would not hesitate to use them again.

This time it was a tyre which collapsed when I ran over some metal in the road, 120miles from home. Limping into the garage on my spare, they offered to sort it within half an hour (though I chose to bring it back the next day) and it wasn't long before I had a new tyre, the electronic systems re-checked and was happily on my way. When I moved to Ware 12 years ago, the garage was close to my home so an obvious choice: when they had to move, it never occurred to me to not go with them. The new site may not be so convenient for me, but as well as the great and friendly service for the big things - annual service, MOT and associated repairs - they have always been marvellous for the little things - light bulbs I can't change, electronic messages I don't understand, a broken wing mirror. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Third time I have used D J Garage for MOT's and services, and will do again as I have found them to be very friendly, helpful, efficient, trustworthy something not always experienced as a women when in the past dealing with garages. A positive experience and have no hesitation in recommending them to friends and family.

Unlike some garages I have visited in the past they do not treat me like an idiotic female who couldn't possibly understand how a car works and take the time to answer any questions I have. Needing an annual service on my 10 year old Ford Fusion, I phoned on the Tuesday and was promptly given a date on the Friday. On my arrival I found that the garage's electronic system revealed all my previous visits and appointments which conveys a professional, secure and satisfactory modus operandi. I was given consideration as to when I could collect my car and upon doing so I was given a full explanation as to charges etc. (I was unaware that one item of repair was within a year's guarantee and was not charged for; I would have been unaware of this if they had not taken the initiative)

Can't believe that I have lived in Stanstead Abbotts for 10 years and only recently found out about this garage while doing a web search! The rear n/s suspension on my VW Polo failed and needed replacing. Having read the comments on this site I felt confident using them. It was confidence that was well placed. The car was booked in for the next morning, they already had the part waiting and I got the call that the car was ready in under an hour! Total job including parts was less than ninety quid! 100% I will be using them again. One other benefit of using companies like this is that you are supporting local trades employing local people.
