About
The Honest Builder is a family business with over 30 years experience in the building trade.
The business was initially set up to provide a good service to local clients where they are put first.
Darren the business owner has extensive experience in all aspects of building worksbut specific interest in re-pointing, lime work, flint work, ground work and patios.
We work closely with the Lime Centre in Owslebury to obtain a like for like match for any lime work.
We are also happy to quote for various other building works and have relationships with Carpenters and Glaziers to supply an all round package for your conservatory.
When repointing your property we will provide the whole service including arranging any scaffolding needed and tarpaulin if required and clearing up on completion of the work.

House and Chimney repointing with specialist lime mortar
The work was handled faultlessly in every way. Communication with us was timely and accurate. The subcontractors (scaffolders and roofers) were well managed (including insistence that a roofer was used to replace broken roof tiles that the scaffolders refused to do before the scaffolding was removed). The quality and speed of the work was impressive. Darren took great care to test the mortar choices to make sure the work blended in with the rest of the house. The finished result is first class - we are very happy to recommend this company without hesitation.

Darren and his apprentice completed repointing across my garage and important areas of the house and diagnosed and solved a separate leak issue Darren inspected first and told us what needed doing, he even limited what was suggested, a nice sign of not trying to sell unnecessary services. They arrived on time, completed work efficiently and to a high standard and kept me updated throughout, taking good care of the property and tidying up afterwards to a high standard. Would certainly recommend to others and re-use for future building work.

We completed a house that needed some brick and drainage work. We organised Darren to repoint the exterior walls, cut a drainage channel along the side of the house and clear the wall cavities to rectify internal damp. As we hadn't moved into the house yet, we were working with Darren remotely. Darren sent us a video of the work progress every day. He was easily reachable via phone and email and explained his actions & decisions along the way. He and his team completed the jobs quickly and to a high standard. The invoicing was punctual and pricing was competitive. Working remotely with Darren was a completely refreshing and reassuring experience. We will absolutely be going to him again for similar work and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Darren replaced our existing patio adding an oak sleeper retaining wall and moving the steps that run down to the lawn. Darren was reliable, communicative and meticulous in his work. The result looks fantastic and has transformed the area. Darren is everything you want in a tradesmen: he was quick to respond to my initial enquiry, gave a clear and itemised quote (which tallied with the final cost) and kept me informed about each step of the process. The garden, once the work was completed, was left extremely tidy. There was a slight delay due to the awful weather but Darren communicated this to me clearly. I would not hesitate to recommend him.

I live in a 17th-century cottage, which needed specialist lime mortar repair work to the brickwork of a wall, repair of a seal, and bricks in a path. Darren visited promptly to assess the work needed, offered good advice, and subsequently submitted a competitive quote for the job. He then returned, with Joe as helper, exactly as arranged, to complete the work. Darren is personable and experienced, very easy indeed to work with, and willing to find solutions and adapt to circumstances as they arise. Such flexibility alongside clear professionalism is refreshing. The invoice I received was exactly as expected. I would not hesitate to recommend him and will certainly use him for further work.

Darren (the honest builder) restored a 150 year old dry flint wall for us which was in poor condition. He did an absolutely marvellous job, bringing lots of ideas about how to do it best and working quickly and tidily. We could not be happier with his work, his approach and his value for money. We will definitely be using him again and recommending him widely.

We asked the Honest Builder to remove a leaning retaining wall from our car park and then rebuild it with stronger and better foundations. Darren was such a pleasure to deal with from the quote stage onwards and he and the team left the site clean and tidy at the end of each day. We've now got a fantastic wall which is not only a little bit safer but also looks a whole lot better than our old leaning wall did! We have used them again for several jobs since and will be keeping their details in case we have any more jobs we can send their way!
