Twenty years since I last sought a roofing company for an 80sqm, 5 storey block of flats with a flat roof. It was winter and damp showing up in the top floor. Altogether, I was nervous. The old flat roof looked sound, but the guttering didn’t. Scaffold needed … so, as well as a new flat roof and repointing of the chimney stacks, etc., it was a chance to improve Energy Performance with 100mm additional insulation. Four roofing companies invited to tender, Foogle chosen. Their estimate was comparable but, crucially, having met both surveyor and boss, I’d a feeling that doing a job well was important to Foogle. Their original estimate excluded scaffold for which we agreed a budget, they arranged and I paid (no mark-up!). They also looked after the local authority building controls. The job started in a none too pleasant January and I sat back waiting for my contingency budget to be eroded. Barring one visit from an emergency plumber, to fix a leaking pipe, I needn’t have worried. Job done, on time and to budget. The contingency was switched for Foogle to repoint elevations while the scaffold was up. My tenants appreciated their courtesy. Jeanette, boss, kept me informed, regular updates and photos.
