I had traveled to Glasgow for a funeral on my Norton motorcycle, just about to leave when the bike started spluttering and firing on one cylinder. I spent an hour trying to get the bike going, changing .spark plug and checking HT leads and coil connections. This did not work, so I called GEM for help. Had a nice chat to the lady at the end of the phone as to the place I had broken down at,(i'm not from Glasgow) She pinpointed where I was after I gave some information about road names I could see, she advised that help was on it's way. The SOS team arrived 15 minutes later. Gary Ireland was the man that arrived. He asked me what I had done to try to fix the bike.( I carry spark plugs, Ht leads and cables with me, along with various tools,) After telling him all that I had done, he agreed that this was not going to be an easy fix and would need to go to get specialist tools to diagnose the problem. Loaded up and drove to Glasgow BMW, Tech's there agreed that it needed spec tools , and that they didn't have them, also where on a bank holiday would I get these in Glasgow??? I would need to be recovered back to Andover Norton for these. I elected to be recovered to my home address as Andover Norton was only 40 miles from my place anyway and that I knew the best guy in the country on Norton Wankel Engines who is a font on Knowledge. So It was decided that recovery was the way. One quick phonecall by Gary and we were on the way. No sooner had we moved off than I got a call from GEM how everything was going, and had the Mechanic arrived yet. She was surprised that not only had he arrived, we had been to Glasgow BMW and that everything had been arranged and that we had set off for Carlisle, where the first changeover would take place. While travelling down there I chatted to Gary and let him know I would have to pick up some food there as I'm a diabetic. Gary informed me that I should always let people know these things as they will happily bend for my needs, which I thought was nice. He phoned company and got his staff to put this on the paperwork and let the drivers know who were picking me up. Sure enough I was able to go into Asda in Carlisle( the places they do changeovers) Get some food and have a toilet break. This happened at ever stop (4 in total changeovers) I was given time to have a toilet break, they done the changeovers of the bike, I had nothing to do) When we got back to my house in Royal Wootton Bassett, the drive (Pavlo) even help me to put the bike in the garage. All in all a very pleasant and efficient recovery from start to finish. Nearly 400 miles, called them out around 0800 and I was back in my house at 1945. I would highly recommend both GEM and SOS to anyone. They had my interests at heart and looked after me. Very well done, as for the bike, it's a bigger problem which has required a large strip down, not the type of thing done on the side of the road. 5 STAR SERVICE
