Des Durant General Building

Des came out to quote for repairs to my roof. I'd sent photos to him. He confirmed that the water ingress is due to the roof leaking but couldn't say why and said to keep an eye on it. I've been doing that for over a year and can confirm that it's getting worse!

Having had sporadic issues with new guttering installed in 2019 I was seeking a tradesperson that I could trust with redoing this job competently and to give me honest advice. From the first time that I spoke to Des he could identify the main issues from photos I sent to him and from recent jobs he had been completing that had arisen due to heavy rain. I had contacted other contractors for quotes who either didn't get back to me or failed to arrive for appointments so was pleased that Des provided me with a quote when he was clearly busy with other work. The quote involved installing new gutters and fittings and a recommendation to fit a gutter support membrane that protects the eaves and cavity walls as we get such heavy rain now. A few extra items were identified during the course of the work and I was kept fully updated in every case and the extra costs involved were very fair. Extra work is not unusual and the job took a day longer due to additional works needed. I am pleased with the work that Des and Steve have completed. They are both very personable and I felt very comfortable with them and their standards of workmanship. It can be hard as a single woman to deal with tradespeople especially if you have had a previous poor experience as I had. I have no hesitation in recommending Des and should I need further work at a later date then its good to know someone that I trust. My expectations were exceeded and they were really nice people to have around!

Needed my roof redone as it was causing leaks. Des did this in record time. He was so professional and extremely reliable. New roof fitted and I couldn’t have asked for a better job to be done! Will one hundred percent be using him and his team again if I face any roofing problems in the future.

Des is my long-standing go to for all external and structural work. Excellent work undertaken to budget and schedule, I cannot recommend him highly enough And he's an entertaining personality too!

Des gave me written quotes for replacing the roof tiles and for replacing the rainwater downpipe. I was most satisfied with the ongoing progress reports, explanations and with the thoroughness of the work Des and his team carried out. Everything was completed to the agreed schedule and budget. The premises were left clean and tidy. I have found Des's cheery nature and indomitable optimism kindness and thoughtfulness especially infectious. I have used Des's services previously and found him to be particular, in regards to details, in each job he tackles. He has remedied a number of building work completed by other builders. He has worked on my roof at the back and front of my house, he has repaired a elevated back wall, which had been damaged by Glaziers not putting support above a new window. He has repaired a garden wall. Des is courteous and polite. Des is reliable. Des's prices are very reasonable.

On 25 June 2018 a tile in the top row of the roof over our front door came loose and slid into the gutter. I phoned Des Durant to ask if he could fix it and give me a price. Des and his mate Jack came round right on time the following morning and gave me a quote which I accepted. With it being a relatively small job he could fit it in first thing the following morning. Again, Des and his mate Jack turned up right on time. As it turned out more than one tile had to be replaced in order to rebuild the join to the house wall. Because some bits are new on top of the old, the tile spacing and colour match are not perfect but are good enough and will weather. They tidied up after themselves. So, a good result; the company is to be recommended.

Des Durant did the leading on our roof. Everything was excellent in all respects; he did a great job at a good price, is very knowledgeable and easy to get on with. His mate was very good too. I would highly recommend.
