Walrus Development Company, trading as Hytek-WDC has been supplying and fitting windows doors and conservatories in Essex and the surrounding areas for over 30 years.
We supply and install all types of windows, doors and conservatories including PVC, timber and aluminium products. We also supply and fit roofline products such as soffits and fascias as well as garage doors.

Have used this company three times now. Michael Wraith the regional sales manager has given excellent service, by returning to our home as amny times as we needed and had lots of patience with us. The workmanship of the window installers was excellent. Very thorough, polite and cleaned up at the end of each day. Nothing was too much trouble.

We have used Hytek, a local family run business, for 20 odd years for all our double glazing window and door fitting and once again very pleased with the quality of product and speed and efficiency of fitting by very friendly fitters. No pressurised sales technique at the outset. Quotes always realistic unlike some other companies where prolonged haggling is necessary. After sales service exemplary. We’ve used HyTek in the past to replace our windows so we know their work is first class. This time it was a new conservatory. Michael their sales rep was very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining all the options. Darren and Rob did a fantastic job and the work was complete in just 3 days (even the snow didn’t stop them working!). They were clean and tidy, even covered up our grass to protect it as they had to walk across it. Friendly, family company who we wouldn’t hesitate to use again.

We had a single glazed conservatory, which was freezing in winter & boiling in summer - we didn't wish to replace with a white pvc one as this was out of character with our house. We found Hytek and Michael explained their offers and pricing. Unlike the usual "buy one, get one free" or "50% off" companies, Hytek's pricing was fair & reasonable. Installation went exactly as planned, to the extent that friends didn't even realise that the entire conservatory glass & roof had been replaced. The installation was so successful that we subsequently entirely removed the roof & door between the conservatory & rest of the house.. It is warm in window & cool in summer & we live in it most of the year! We have have a couple of minor problems since the replacement conservatory was installed; in both cases, the issues were promptly fixed, at no charge. Hytek is an exemplar, in an industry, littered with "cowboys" - I cannot recommend them too highly - quite simply a joy to deal with!

Design, ordering and payment: We got quotes from a number of Which? Local recommended installers for our area. We were impressed by Michael Wraith's helpfulness and his willingness to listen to and make sure he was clear about what we wanted, undertake research into anything he had not encountered before, offer advice and information from manufacturers as required and provide clear written descriptions and drawings of our designs, ensuring any alterations we made were clearly incorporated into revised designs. The quote was not the cheapest, but we had a detailed description of what we were getting and Michael had spent a significant amount of time working with us. Even when there was a slight glitch, Michael helped us through the maze with his trademark patience (we had signed contracts by then and his approach was as helpful as before). Payment is 15% deposit on signing contracts, with the balance on completion. Payments are cash or cheque only, credit card facility is not available. - Installation: Our installers were a pleasure to have around the home. They explained when they would arrive and what they proposed to do on each work day the day before. This allowed us to prepare rooms for installation. They were careful not to damage tiles, etc when removing old and installing new windows and they cleaned up each day so that you would not have known anyone was there. They even spotted and told us when a glazed unit was cracked, arranged for a replacement and installed it within a week. - Conclusion: We would happily use the company again and have no qualm in recommending them to anyone.

Michael and his team installed new fascias and sofits around our house, along with a new front door and kitchen door. Additionally they installed a UPVC conservatory with a blue active glass roof on the existing dwarf wall and bricked up a previous side door that we didn't want replaced. Michael was excellent in going through all of our options clearly and making helpful suggestions. He asked about all the little details up front, so we didn't have to request anything post quote at additional cost. This was a different approach to other potential suppliers, who just measured and asked about the basics. Darren and his colleague always arrived on time and all the work was completed very quickly, with no mess. They were all very friendly and the standard of workmanship and quality of finish was excellent. We have an unusual shaped roof and the fascias and sofits look great, without any issues when installing. Overall I'd have no hesitation in recommending Hytek or using them again in the future.

Great service from quote through to fitting. We had 6 new windows and adjustments to existing french doors. Michael was very helpful at quotation stage and replied to my queries quickly. Fitters, Darren and Gary were very friendly and they were considerate, covering rooms with dust sheets and hoovering, so no cleaning up for us! Highly recommended - hope to use them again in the future.

We are very pleased with the 2 doors and windows that were provided and fitted by Hytek in October 2020. These are high-quality products and we were kept fully informed throughout the process from discussing our needs; quotes; ordering and fitting. Darren and Gary were very professional and polite whilst completing the fitting and tidying up. It is also worth noting that the after-sales customer service is second to none! I called Hytek as the stable door had started sticking and Darren and Gary came out to check and adjust it straight away. Thank you for a superb service! I can highly recommend Hytek if you need replacement doors, windows or conservatories.

From first contact with Michael for an estimate to the leaving of site after job completed by Darren and his team it was a very pleading experience in everyday. Nothing was too much trouble and all questions asked were answered knowledgeably. The quality of the windows and door is first class. Workmanship was brilliant and I wouldn't even know they had been on site after they left as no mess left anywhere. This firm was recommended by our neighbour. Michael who originally came out to quote for the job was very personable, knowledgeable and was not sales driven or pushy. John who came to measure up the job was helpful and knowledgeable, giving us some sensible ideas regarding our French doors. The fitters, Darren and Robert ,were cheerful, personable and professional. They communicated well , telling us the order in which they would fit the windows. They were also neat and tidy in their work and kept precisely to the pre-arranged timetable. The price was exactly as quoted and was competitive.(similar to another quote we had) Our new windows are lovely, letting in so much more light than our old windows. I feel confident that should we require any adjustments there will be no problems getting the Company to come back, as they have done for our neighbour.

Firstly, I must say that my wife & I are really impressed, very satisfied and pleased with the quality, attention to detail of all that was done from the start of the process to having the work done. I contacted the company in the first instance to get a quote, which resulted in Michael attending and spending time to ensure that the quotation which was done covered what we requested. Michaels approach to aiding our choices helped, he was very knowledgeable, polite, helpful and appropriately supportive, (not in anyway pushy). On deciding to proceed with the quote, John attended to have/take accurate dimensions of the windows etc, again he was polite, courteous and helpful. Toni in admin contacted us when the windows etc had arrived & were ready to be installed. She was also helpful and accommodating in arranging the dates necessary. When the works men Darren & Adam arrived, we were very pleased with how thorough they were in completing the install, it was over a couple of days. Both men were very polite, were very hard working and always cleaned away any of the debris from the work being done. Darren always responded to any questions I had and was keen for me to clarify anything with him re the new windows etc. I would certainly highly recommend HYTEC-WDC, there is no regret in making the decision we made to have our windows etc replaced by this company. Following the quotations and help from Michael, the door we chose was ordered. The price quoted was the price we paid, this was also the case with the windows. After only a few weeks, and as arranged and booked for installation. Darren arrived to fit the front door, he arrived punctually for this installation as he had done for the previous work done. He worked efficiently and was very thorough in the completion of the work. As with previous work completed very satisfactorily, he was always polite and respectful of our property. He cleaned up all debris and took the old door away and was very thorough as was the case with previous work completed. He answered all questions we had and also clearly showed and informed us what we needed to know very clearly. I must say we are very satisfied and pleased with all the work done would highly recommend HYTEC-WDC
