Ian has now completed two painting and decorating jobs with us, firstly in 2015 (major house renovation work) and secondly in 2023 (painting and papering a large living room, our hall, ceilings and doors) and he also completed two large domestic projects for my parents in the 90s and 00s, which is how we first came to hear of him. His work is fantastic - he is a perfectionist with an eye for detail and he always keeps us in the loop on cost, with our budget in mind, and pre-agrees work and pricing before beginning. Everything is always completed in good time. Ian and his team are professional, friendly, very helpful and trustworthy. I couldn't recommend them more highly and we've always been really happy with their work.

Ian did an excellent job. He responded quickly to my enquiry, fitted us in wihout delay, always turned up when he said he would, and did an excellent job of stripping and relining a wall, then painting the whole cloakroom. He offered sound advice on colours and was very personable throughout. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Turned up to start painting exactly as arranged. Fast but careful and accurate work. Considerate of our domestic arrangements. Conscientious work, extending beyond what was expected in terms of painting aspects that I hadn't taken into account at the outset. Intelligent advice. All in all, I'd certainly engage Mr Ian Hodgson again and recommend anyone else to do so.

This work by Ian Hodgson was carried out to the highest of standards in every respect. The work involved was discussed fully and a clear estimate was given and a time for starting and finishing the job was discussed. The estimate and the timescale was strictly adhered to and the job was completed to the very highest of standards. The manner in which the job was completed was first class - in the friendliest and inobtrusive of ways. I would not hesitate to use this trader again.

I Hodgson & Co recently painted my porch, hall and stair - quite a big task with a lot of woodwork and very high walls. This is the third job they have done for me, and once again I was very satisfied with the quality of the work. Ian Hodgson has a good eye for colour and offered useful advice for what is a difficult space. I knew they would turn up promptly each morning and leave my home usable at the end of the day. They were tidy, efficient and cheerful and I would definitely use them again.

We contacted Ian as a local painter and he inspected the areas that needed attention, gave us a quotation on the day and gave us an estimated date for commencing the work. He then followed through with the exact day, arrived as scheduled and gave advice where needed and completed the job to an extremely high standard. We would have no hesitation in using him again or recommending him to friends/neighbours.

Two of my bedrooms required a long-overdue refurbishment which was complicated by almost sixty years worth of clutter. The budgeting was made entirely clear to me from the start. Ian and his team made the entire operation as painless for me as was humanly possible. Their helpfulness went far beyond the call of duty. Attention to detail was paramount throughout. Such meticulous work can only deserve the highest praise.

I have used Ian to do all my painting and decorating for the last 10 years and he is always very reliable and does a great job. Not the cheapest option but delivers a high quality result. Would definitely recommend.

Mr Hodgson gave a very reasonable estimate immediately on seeing the requirements. Each day he started work punctually and did an excellent job. He also took the trouble to mix the paint for the guttering on-site to give a good match to the rendered walls. Throughout, he was a very pleasant, professional person to deal with and I would definitely recommend him.

Ian and his men arrived promptly and did an excellent job and I am very pleased with their work and can thoroughly recommend them. And you can safely leave them to do the work when you are out.

We have a 3 story Victorian townhouse in Edinburgh and the hallway was in need of complete redecoration including plastering, smoothing walls, applying lining paper and top paper, sanding and painting of woodwork and ceilings. The job can't have been an easy one due to high ceilings awkward stairs, but Ian and his team worked effortlessly to get the job done within time. They were a pleasure to have working in our house, and even cleaned their tea cups after themselves. We couldn't be happier with the quality of the work. I just wish we had known about Ian earlier and used him for all our previous work. Highly recommend.

We found Ian through Trusted Traders as our previous decorator had retired. The first job we asked him to do was to paint the outside of the house. That was done well, with good attention to detail. Also mentioned at the time was the possibility of another job should we renovate the kitchen - long overdue. All was going well with that, including painting of ceiling and woodwork in the dining room. Then, in run up to Christmas, and visiting families, the shock to discover a bad case of rising damp and so all schedules put on hold for the completion of the kitchen and the flooring. Ian was very reassuring that he would ensure that all would be done in time. And it was. The end product is a very splendid kitchen - fitted by Alasdair Morrison - made complete with excellent decoration (with the renewed kitchen ceiling that Ian arranged with a skilled plasterer).

We asked Ian Hodgson and his team to take on a bedroom and dressing room which have the problems of a typical New Town flat - high ceilings, plaster work cornices, original shutters, all showing traces of their age and all requiring skilled professional attention – as well as to repair a section of bathroom paintwork. They did an all-round excellent job and we should particularly mention Ian’s expertise in hanging a technically very difficult wallpaper with superb results. Ian and his team are not only highly skilled decorators but professional in other ways too. Considerate, punctual and tidy, they really powered through the job and created the least possible disruption. We are very happy we found Ian through this site and very happy to recommend his work.

Ian is the kind of tradesman you dream of! Totally reliable, he fitted me in quickly to his very busy schedule and did a superb job. He was punctual, arrived right on time and finished the job when he said he would. He did an excellent job painting the walls, skirting and surrounds and ceiling and left everything immaculate. He was hard working and a pleasure to deal with, he was so positive and nothing was too much trouble. He is great value for money. Ian was very pleasant and a pleasure to deal with. The 2 painters that completed the job were easy to get on with and professional in their work, very punctual and cleaned up well after they had finished. The quote for the work was realistic and competitive and the quality of work complete was excellent. I tend to fear the worst when employing tradesmen I have not used previously but Ian and his team put my mind at rest, were punctual, did a first-rate job and I would not hesitate to use them again - highly recommended.

We've used Ian before - once again, we were delighted with the completed job. He is a true professional - not only is the quality of his work first class, but he arrives when he says he will, finishes the job on time, very clean & tidy. Would happily recommend to anyone.
