Although we were in a new build property we have a very creaky staircase which the builder was unable to rectify. We decided to contact companies to enquire about options to rectify the creaks. Roland from JBC quickly responded to our query and came out to take a look and talk over options. Roland was friendly, knowledgeable and explained the options available from a repair through to complete staircase replacement. As we wanted to install a glass balustrade as well as have a solid staircase we decided to go for a completely new oak staircase with glass balustrade. For the installation Roland and Russell did a fantastic job. They removed the existing staircase with no damage and then expertly installed the new staircase. The job took 4 days and we were kept updated on the progress. Roland and Russell worked away diligently cleaning up each night and making sure the staircase was safe. We had no idea on the intricacy of installing a staircase and the value of true craftsmanship in making sure it was installed correctly! We now have solid, fantastic looking staircase with no squeaks! They even made a matching doggy gate to stop our dog from going up the stairs! We are delighted with the installation that JBC completed and are happy to recommend!

When we were looking for a company to install a new balustrade & banister and to hang 5 internal doors, we were taken by the photographs and testimonials that JBC have on their website. They almost appeared to be too good to be true. However, having met Roland when he came to discuss the project and to show us samples of the oak finish and the finish to the glass clamps, I was taken by his demeanour, and I could immediately understand why previous customers had offered such glowing testimonials. When he was joined on site by his brother Russell, for the installation, I was indeed confident that JBC was the correct choice. The level of craftmanship is first class. Not to mention the detailing of the remedial work where the old material was removed. The Birkett Brothers could teach other tradesmen a thing or two about leaving the premises neat and tidy! On completion they left the premises spotless. Such was the level of work that my wife and I have now asked Roland to quote for a new front door.

I asked JBC to fit a handrail to my elderly mother's staircase. They asked me to send some photographs and provided a quote, which was inline with other estimates. I paid a deposit and they ordered the parts and pre-painted the handrail. On the day of fitting they took great care to measure before placing the handrail and vacuumed up every particle of dust created (they brought their own vacuum). The handrail looks fantastic and my mother is delighted that she can now traverse the stairs with ease.

I contacted JBC by telephone, explained what I wanted. They asked me to send photographs of where I wanted my handrails. I received a quotation fairly quickly. The communication throughout the process was 1st class. The job was completed to my 100% satisfaction. This company are a joy to work with and their workmanship is outstanding.

JBC installed a new oak bannister for us. This was quite a complicated job and involved critical angles for jointing to follow the line of the staircase. The end product could not be better, skilled workmanship of a high standard. We are very pleased indeed and highly recommend this company. We have now asked them to quote for further work and look forward to having them back to complete that.

This is the third time we/I have employed JBC. They constructed new double glazed windows for our ground floor, they made a beautiful solid front door, and this time they rebuilt a balcony and balustrade. Excellent job conducted by JBC in renovations of both our staircases converting from old fashioned spindles to beautiful oak and glass with feature lighting giving a more modern and casual temporary look. This was the second time we had a door made and fitted by JBC. The reason for that is simple - the craftmanship and attention to detail to produce the doors in keeping with the era of the house but with all mod cons were truly superb. Contracted JBC to install 2 x 5" glass balustrade panels to my patio replacing panel fence. Roland & Russell completed what is a superb robust job with nice surround finishes (even painting newly exposed fencing). Explained the engineering aspects along the way. A knowledgeable family business and would highly recommend.

My son recently moved house and we were impressed with the glass and oak balustrade they had, much nicer than our 30+ year old original “ranch fence, three plank” banister. While searching for suppliers, both in Sunday supplements and locally, we came across JBC at Broxburn and asked for a quote. A neighbour a couple of doors down was surveyed the same day. We were unable to accept the quote at that time but after seeing the quality of the work carried out at our neighbours we asked Nicola at JBC a few months later if it would be possible to have the work done at the originally quoted price. Luckily the answer was yes though, because of our delay and the guys schedule, we would have to wait a bit longer than usual for the work to commence. Roland appeared and carried out the full survey and noted my concerns regarding some phone and network cables which would have to be incorporated. He and Russell duly turned up on the allotted day and laid down protective covering on the stairs, spending the rest of the day cutting and preparing various sections prior to the final assembly. A temporary banister was fitted overnight with the balustrade completed the following day. The craftsmanship and quality is fantastic with the stairwell now opened up, my cables invisible. Many thanks to the guys for a fantastic job carried out in an extremely professional way. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for similar work to be carried out.

Used JBC to make bunk beds and cupboards. Roland and Russell were very professional from the start, completing the work on time. Offering good design options, tidy workers, courteous. The work was completed to a high standard and they took pride in the quality of their workmanship. I would recommend them and would use them myself again.

We booked JBC for a bathroom refurbishment. From the written quote (Jim) to the completed work (Roland and Russell) we experienced nothing but professionalism from JBC. Despite working in very cramped conditions and in extreme heat (31 degrees) Roland and Russell managed to produce an amazing modern, sleek and beautifully tiled bathroom...nothing was overlooked and the quality of their workmanship was nothing short of perfection. Communication was excellent as was reliability, honesty and a desire to do a good job for the customer. I am so very glad we used JBC and we will be doing so again, and would definitely recommend the company. Thank you also to Nicola whose professionalism meant that any paperwork, questions etc were managed with speed and efficiency. A wonderful company.

Our bath was removed and replaced with a glass sided shower cabinet and the wc and basin were replaced. The floor tiles were removed and replaced and the walls were tiled. Substantial replumbing was needed. The work was carried out in the agreed timescale and at the agreed price. The standard of workmanship was virtually flawless and we were minimally inconvenienced while the work was in progress. Communication with all members of the firm was straightforward, helpful and good humoured. It is now 6 weeks since the work was completed and no problems have arisen. I will certainly go back to JBC if I need further similar work carried out in the future. I don't know whether I could have had the work done as well for less, although I'm sure I could have had it done less well!

JBC carried out these works to my second floor tenement flat to a high standard of workmanship. Definitely worth the money as a long term investment in the flat.

JBC supplied and fitted 10 replacement internal oak doors, 4 of which had to be custom made. The doors were delivered and fitted on time. The fitters worked to ensure a perfect fit to all doors dealing with the difficulties of an old building. The end result is a very high quality job undertaken with excellent customer service. This is a small family business who provide a friendly and most efficient service. Their custom made hinged secondary windows proved to be an ideal solution to the problem of installing secondary glazing in a period property with a minimum of disruption (and no need for planning permission). Roland and Russell were delightful people to have around ; they completed the work in record time, my floors and furniture were protected with polythene and dust sheets and they left absolutely no mess. They also paid attention to extra details such as ordering and installing new blinds and brass window handles. I would unhesitatingly recommend this company.

I contacted JBC through finding them on google and found their slim line double glazing would be ideal in our Georgian flat that looks onto the main road on the busy North Charlotte street in Edinburgh. It was also important that we could close the original wooden shutters which was accommodated. Throughout my communication with Jbc I was dealt with by a family member which gave me confidence that customer service was a priority, as at all times quotes, appointments and the installation was done when agreed and on budget. Rolland took a great deal of time measuring up the glass space as in all old buildings the measurements are never identical in 2 windows. The family have an attitude of get it right first time which is very refreshing having had plumbers joiners bathroom installers and electricians working over the last 4 years who Generally over promised and under delivered. It was also helpful to view a similar installation locally, prior to placing the order,to see how effective the window worked out. I am very happy with the outcome and would recommend Jbc as a trusted family business.

JBC are fantastic! I can't recommend them highly enough. My staircase was dark with lots of very dark wood panelling and now it's bright with the white and glass staircase. They removed my pine clad ceiling and replaced with new plaster and coving. They also laid a new wooden floor and skirtings. Their attention to detail is a credit to them. We are renovating a flat in Edinburgh that required a new set of sash and case windows. JBC was recommend by my mum who had a bathroom and staircase installed by them. The windows look fantastic, they fit in with the style of the building and are great quality. We have a rented flat in the New Town area of Edinburgh and needed a new handrail installed quickly to meet the requirements of a tenant who was just moving in. JBC contacted the agent, gained entry and measured up/costed the work. We were happy with the quote and they agreed to bring the job forward. All work was completed 100% on time and to agreed cost. Needed a fix to a very large single glazed window on half landing that was both losing heat and letting in sound from neighbouring lorries. The JBC Secondary glazing was perfect for our Listed building - massive improvement in both draughts and noise and you would not know it was there! Excellent and efficient throughout - Roland and assistant were quick, tidy and friendly. Could maybe have got done cheaper but would certainly have been at expense of quality and probably on effectiveness.
