About
Switch Green Electrical is a Forest Hill based domestic electrical company run by Joel Buckwell. Switch Green Electrical specialises in small electrical tasks, consumer unit replacements and electrical repairs. Joel first became an electrician in 2003 and has been a sole trader since 2011. He runs his business on honesty and reliability. All work undertaken is carried out to the latest BS7671 standards.
'All Hands and Hearts' are a non profit volunteer based organisation that helps rebuild and improve areas in the aftermath of a natural disaster anywhere in the world. Joel has first hand experience working for them as a volunteer in Nepal, Peru and offers them electrical advice & guidance to keep their projects and volunteers safe.
The value of the redundant and excess cable collected from jobs undertaken is donated to All Hands And Hearts. Redundant cable usually gets thrown in the skip but here it is scrapped, recycled and the cash is donated to help disaster struck communities get rebuilt

I would highly recommend Joel: his work is highly professional, he does the job and also goes the extra mile. He is extremely helpful and explains everything very clearly. Given electricity is a very important and risky thing, it is important to feel you are in safe hands. Joel is a rare find and I hope he never leaves the country!

Joel replaced four old-fashioned ceiling lights, patched the ceiling holes and installed three surface-mounted lights and a pendant light above the dining table, as well as capping off a dangerously located socket under my sink. This was the fourth job that I've used Joel for, and he has always offered sensible advice on what the job would involve and helpful solutions to any issues encountered. He is polite, respectful, tidy and accommodating, he communicates well about the job, and is pleasure to have in the house. His work is good value, his quote for the work was accurate and he arrived and left on time. I would definitely recommend Joel to a friend and use him for future electrical work.

Joel installed new LED light fittings throughout my flat as well as installed a new pendant light, ceiling fan, and replaced my bathroom extractor fan. He took care to visit first to ensure his quote would be accurate and comprehensive - something I appreciated as this avoided any unexpected additional costs. The work was done well and as promised - he even went above and beyond to infill a hole in the ceiling that was left from one of my previous light fittings, and was sure to clean up as he went along. He also took the time to ensure the light levels and colours of my new fittings were as I wanted and showed me how to adjust everything if I wanted to in the future. When the work was done he did a thorough safety check to ensure everything was as it should be in order to issue the proper certificates. I highly recommend Joel and Switch Green Electrical.

Joel was excellent- he is really knowledgeable and gave us great advice and suggestions to modernise the electrics in our 1960s first home. From the first point of contact, he was friendly and communicative. We needed an extractor fan in the bathroom and he liaised with another great tradesperson to build a new ceiling with ceiling lights - it’s been a real game changer and has modernised our bathroom. He also installed a new consumer unit and is helping us sort out new sockets and switches throughout the house. He’s really lovely and personable and gets the job done to a high standard, at a fair price. Would definitely recommend!

Joel has assisted us in electrical works throughout our pre-move in refurbishment work done from November 2022 to January 2023. The works that we have engaged his services on includes: consumer unit installation, lighting installations, sockets + light switches installation and intercom installation. He has always been prompt in responding to our request for service, provided us with detailed and transparent invoicing plus very polite in his dealing with us. His electrical work is top-notch, and he has helped us find solutions that best suit us such as getting an easy smart lighting set-up using Philips Hue system. For a first time home owner, his assistance throughout the process was very helpful for us as he guided us throughout the electrical work journey and has helped us feel confident in the electrical set-up in the property due to his tremendous work performed.

We had wiring for old wall lights that needed removing and making safe at the wall swich. Joel checked the wiring for us and discovered that the cables to the wall lights were connected to the circuit via a hidden junction box rather than behind the wall switch, which he explained to us clearly. This was before we moved in, so we didn't know how the wall lights had been fitted. As we are replacing the carpet in that room, he suggested looking under the floorboards for a junction box when the carpet is up and the floorboards can be lifted, and we agreed to get back in touch with him. He also replaced five wall switches for us. All the work was done quickly and neatly with minimum disruption to us

Joel really did a fantastic job for us completing a full electrical re-wire of a 1960’s mid mod house in July and August. The works involved installing new wiring throughout the house, chasing in cables, installing plaster in downlights and pendants as well as new sockets throughout the house. He also installed a new fuse box and tested everything + certs. Joel is a an excellent electrician and great communicator, we discussed some complex stuff and he always gave great advice.
