Neil attended to fix a new valve on the hot water tank, repair the toilet and change a tap. He arrived on time and knew what he was doing. His price was more than we expected, but he did an excellent job

New boiler and underfloor heating

I have known Neil Cornes and NCC South East for about 15 years. He has installed two boilers for me, the last in March 2018. The most recent installation was complicated by building works and the slipping timetables of other contractors. This was also a technically difficult job. The boiler and underfloor heating system were installed and completed accurately and in good time. And all new installations are working perfectly 16 months later. Post installation queries dealt with cheerfully and servicing carried out. NCC South East May not provide the cheapest quote, but estimates are adhered to and all admin is dealt with smoothly and professionally.

NCC have looked after our plumbing fir over 10 years. This includes our home , 2 rental properties and also the plumbing for my sister and mother. He has installed new systems for all of us as part of extensive refurbishment works at a total of 4 properties. Not the cheapest, but absolutely reliable trustworthy and thorough in all aspects. I recommend highly.

Replacement Boiler

Neil came at 6.30pm on the day I called to say my boiler was not working. Which was great as we were due snow in a couple of days. Unfortunately my boiler could not be fixed as the parts are obsolete so he quoted for a new boiler and came and fitted it 2 days later. All work was carried out efficiently and in a tidy manner. 10 days after installation the boiler displayed F83 error, Neil and Valiant have since visited my home and it is now fixed.

NCC did work for me a number of years ago (installed a boiler and central heating system). Although the work was good; they did it within the agreed time and for the price quoted, I have just found out they never sent Corgi, now Gas Safe, the building regulations completion certificate for the new boiler and I was never given a copy. I have now had to fork out over £100 for a lack of installation certificate insurance policy when remortgaging my property. When questioned about this they just ignored my emails. Please be warned, if you are using this company make sure they register the work or else like me, you may be in for a surprise further down the line.

The trader replied (on 22/02/2019)
NCC are delighted you remain satisfied with the quality and value of the heating installation we did approximately 14 years ago. We are very sorry you feel we are untrustworthy because of an issue with certification. I feel confident we registered the installation, as part of Corgi membership regulations, which we would have had to do for all of our installations, and the certificate would have been posted to you directly from Corgi. Since your installation the registration organisation changed to Gas Safe and it is unfortunate they have been unable to locate your Corgi registration. After receiving your texts last year we attempted to speak to Corgi, who only operate in Ireland (they no longer operate in the UK since 2009) who said they would look through their documentation and get back to us if they found anything, sadly they didn’t. I am afraid changes with the registration organisations and anything that went missing between them is beyond our control. If you wish to clarify anything further please call us.

Damaged floor, didn't follow manufacturers instructions, won't help us fix the issues

NCC installed underfloor heating across 3 levels at our house beneath engineered flooring alongside a heat pump. It turns out they used a product designed for tiling, rather than wooden flooring, and did not follow the manufacturer's instructions (which say that self-levelling compound or screed must be added if used below wooden flooring). This means that beneath the floors (which require even heat) there are hot pipes at 50C separated by cool insulation. Their manufacturer says it's essential to install thermometers beneath the floor to avoid damage to the flooring - this was not done. Their manufacturer says that concentrated pipes should be avoided or insulated to avoid overheating of the floor. In some sections 7 pipes have been laid together where the pre-cut grooves in the boards normally support 3. In those areas the floor is being heated to 30.5C way above the safe limit of 27C, which the majority of the rest of the floor is at 21C. So both damaging the floor and failing to heat the rooms. Two months have passed since we complained, NCC came out once and all they did was cause the floors to overheat more. They didn't fix the flow meters as we had asked. During installation Neil's constant refrain was "I've run my business from home for 33 years, no-one has ever knocked on my door". Yet at the first sign of problems, he's gone.

The trader replied (on 18/02/2023)
Please be factual; we are the 2nd company you have had a protracted engagement with for underfloor heating (UFH). We installed UFH across 4, not 3, levels on various floor finishes, tiling, wooden and solid screed. January 2023, a site visit with the UFH manufacturer, who conducted a full inspection, confirmed the correct installation and the product used IS suitable for ALL floor finishes. Our response remains the same to your subsequent complaint letter, 21/01/2023. Our quote states the UFH products' including cement boards. Installation of your flooring used the wrong method, a floating floor with an air gap, not the flooring manufacturer's recommendation. We agree with you, a self-levelling compound or screed should be used for flooring installation. Dennebos also states the UFH must have been operable at normal capacity for at least 10 days or 14 days at 2/3 of its capacity. Yet, your flooring was laid before the UFH system was brought up to temperature, tested and floor probes fitted. The flooring manufacturer advises that suitable thermal barriers are needed for floor fitting in concentrated pipe areas. We also rectified the UFH pipes that someone cut through while new fitting new stairs. We have NOT gone, responding to your >100 emails, WhatsApp, phone calls, reviews and complaints, & now GDPR Subject Access Request. Neither the UFH manufacturer nor we are at fault; with the correct flooring installation, you will benefit from an efficient heating system.
