Nicolas Roofing & Building Maintenance

Although a roofer by trade, Nicolas recently completed some landscaping for me – relaying an uneven pathway around the front/side of the house and adding decorative edging, adding some paved areas in the front and back gardens, converting a single steep step into two shallower steps and fixing a garden gate that was sticking. Nicolas was recommended to me, having done work for my mum and several of her neighbours. He did an excellent job; the garden looks great! Nicolas is so professional and takes such great care over his work, the attention to detail and careful finishing is amazing, I was really impressed. Everything was left clean and tidy afterwards. An excellent worker, highly recommended, I would definitely use Nicolas again.

Nicolas scraped extensive moss growth off all the roof slopes, rebedded the ridge tiles to the main roof and extension, repaired a defective roof strut in the loft space, installed a new section of guttering, replaced some defective tiles, replaced the lead flashing to the chimney and rebedded the edge tiles to the extension. All was carried out to schedule, and within budget. Nicolas gives great attention to detail, has great knowledge and is obviously very experienced. For example, he sourced precisely the exact replacement (1970) tiles from a salvage yard, where a very similar replacement may have sufficed. Everything was left very clean and tidy, and I can certainly recommend Nicolas Roofing as a highly competent, reliable and trustworthy contractor.

I was so pleased with the work Nic did on my storm-damaged roof. His attention to detail, willingness to spend the time needed to get it right and explanations of roof matters to me were the mark of a very experienced professional with pride in his workmanship. He was prepared to return days later, waiting for warmer temperatures so the wet cement avoided frost damage He cleared up thoroughly and even swept up stray autumn leaves for me! Nic is a friendly honest local guy. There were no 'extra charges' beyond the very reasonable price agreed in writing beforehand. I would confidently use his services again.

I came home one day to water pouring through an upstairs light fitting! After investigating and dismissing the possibility of a burst pipe I turned to Trusted Trader to find a roofer. Nic was the only person who replied to my pleas for help. He came to assess the issue and very kindly put in a temporary fix at no cost, before he even knew if he would do the main work, which was kind and impressed me. He took the time to discuss what the problem was and what he thought the cause of the tile breaks were. He also showed me photos of the damage up on the roof (as this could not be seen from the ground). His quote was very reasonable and I chose him to complete the work - which involved replacing two broken rooftiles (although a number of existing tiles needed to be removed and then put back in order to complete the work), the battening and damaged felt. He also took the time to look over the rest of my rooftiles to see if any more were cracked (they were not). We've had some very heavy rain since and my loft has remained dry. He completed the work in a day. He was efficient, professional, courteous and tidy. A craftsman and a gentleman. He cleaned up after himself, my patio was swept and tidier than it had been before. The work was carried out neatly. He is also just a thoroughly nice chap - I would recommend him to anyone.

Nic responded to our problem with condensation in our roof very quick, he was very knowledgeable on how to sort the problem out and kept us informed of what he was doing and why. Nic fitted a number of air vents and renewed all the loft insulation to the current standards, we agreed a price and throughout the job he was a very tidy worker taking all the rubbish away, would defiantly recommend him without any hesitation. Very nice guy.

To set the scene, the problem area was an old chimney which had been removed from the rear roof slope decades earlier, long before we owned the house. We don't know who did the original work (but it wasn't Nic). The water was getting in around the old chimney position and it was getting worse resulting in a damp patch forming on a bedroom ceiling. It turned out to be because and the felt had been patched badly when the chimney was removed, (also the tiles used to patch the old chimney position did not colour-match the original tiles very well). Nic was punctual for the initial visit to assess the situation in order to provide a quote. The quote was also provided as promised and was competitive. He was again punctual on the day he did the roof repair work and was conscientious in providing a repair involving stripping back tiling and battens beyond the initial problem area in order to install replacement felt covering not only the problem area, but also other damaged areas of felt nearby. New batten was reinstated to replace the battening he'd had to remove, and then he replaced the tiling. He was thoughtful in replacing the tiles in order to position the mis-coloured tiled mentioned earlier lower down the roof slope (at the eaves) so that they are now not so obvious; so the roof now looks better too. The work was invoiced a couple of days after the work was completed for the agreed amount. I would definitely use Nic again if I should require his expertise.

We've used Nic twice for roof repairs and have been very happy both times. We obtained a few quotes the first time, and Nic was the only roofer who actually took the time to work out the original cause of the problem before giving us a quote. On both occasions, Nic turned up when he said he would, and he stuck to the quote even though he did some extra work each time (e.g. installing comb filler that was missing from when the house was originally built, meaning birds had been getting under the roof tiles). Nic clearly takes pride in his work and doesn't cut corners, and he left everything clean and tidy. I would use Nic again and would recommend him to others.

Nicholas came to fix a leak around our chimney last month, and he really did a fantastic job. He is very thorough, dedicated, tidy and also flexible. We had scaffolding on our house only for the duration of his work, which is nice. Our loft didn't have any dust in it afterward. Looking at what he did and the effort he put in, we are confident that our roof and chimney are safe. We consider ourselves lucky and satisfied customers. Note that a previous (recommended) roofer had given us a pricier quote that involved more scaffolding and a more superficial work.

I was recommended Nicolas roofing by a neighbour, Nick came round to view the damage to the verge tiles on my roof, He explained what needed to be done to rectify the damage, a quote was given to me that evening. The work was carried out to a high standard which I was very pleased with. Having worked with many different trades in my own work, being a tradesman myself, I have seen good & bad workers. Seeing the way Nick worked, and the professional way he went about it impressed me. I would definitely recommend his services
