Nicolas Roofing & Building Maintenance

I came home one day to water pouring through an upstairs light fitting! After investigating and dismissing the possibility of a burst pipe I turned to Trusted Trader to find a roofer. Nic was the only person who replied to my pleas for help. He came to assess the issue and very kindly put in a temporary fix at no cost, before he even knew if he would do the main work, which was kind and impressed me. He took the time to discuss what the problem was and what he thought the cause of the tile breaks were. He also showed me photos of the damage up on the roof (as this could not be seen from the ground). His quote was very reasonable and I chose him to complete the work - which involved replacing two broken rooftiles (although a number of existing tiles needed to be removed and then put back in order to complete the work), the battening and damaged felt. He also took the time to look over the rest of my rooftiles to see if any more were cracked (they were not). We've had some very heavy rain since and my loft has remained dry. He completed the work in a day. He was efficient, professional, courteous and tidy. A craftsman and a gentleman. He cleaned up after himself, my patio was swept and tidier than it had been before. The work was carried out neatly. He is also just a thoroughly nice chap - I would recommend him to anyone.

Nic responded to our problem with condensation in our roof very quick, he was very knowledgeable on how to sort the problem out and kept us informed of what he was doing and why. Nic fitted a number of air vents and renewed all the loft insulation to the current standards, we agreed a price and throughout the job he was a very tidy worker taking all the rubbish away, would defiantly recommend him without any hesitation. Very nice guy.

To set the scene, the problem area was an old chimney which had been removed from the rear roof slope decades earlier, long before we owned the house. We don't know who did the original work (but it wasn't Nic). The water was getting in around the old chimney position and it was getting worse resulting in a damp patch forming on a bedroom ceiling. It turned out to be because and the felt had been patched badly when the chimney was removed, (also the tiles used to patch the old chimney position did not colour-match the original tiles very well). Nic was punctual for the initial visit to assess the situation in order to provide a quote. The quote was also provided as promised and was competitive. He was again punctual on the day he did the roof repair work and was conscientious in providing a repair involving stripping back tiling and battens beyond the initial problem area in order to install replacement felt covering not only the problem area, but also other damaged areas of felt nearby. New batten was reinstated to replace the battening he'd had to remove, and then he replaced the tiling. He was thoughtful in replacing the tiles in order to position the mis-coloured tiled mentioned earlier lower down the roof slope (at the eaves) so that they are now not so obvious; so the roof now looks better too. The work was invoiced a couple of days after the work was completed for the agreed amount. I would definitely use Nic again if I should require his expertise.

We've used Nic twice for roof repairs and have been very happy both times. We obtained a few quotes the first time, and Nic was the only roofer who actually took the time to work out the original cause of the problem before giving us a quote. On both occasions, Nic turned up when he said he would, and he stuck to the quote even though he did some extra work each time (e.g. installing comb filler that was missing from when the house was originally built, meaning birds had been getting under the roof tiles). Nic clearly takes pride in his work and doesn't cut corners, and he left everything clean and tidy. I would use Nic again and would recommend him to others.

Nicholas came to fix a leak around our chimney last month, and he really did a fantastic job. He is very thorough, dedicated, tidy and also flexible. We had scaffolding on our house only for the duration of his work, which is nice. Our loft didn't have any dust in it afterward. Looking at what he did and the effort he put in, we are confident that our roof and chimney are safe. We consider ourselves lucky and satisfied customers. Note that a previous (recommended) roofer had given us a pricier quote that involved more scaffolding and a more superficial work.

I was recommended Nicolas roofing by a neighbour, Nick came round to view the damage to the verge tiles on my roof, He explained what needed to be done to rectify the damage, a quote was given to me that evening. The work was carried out to a high standard which I was very pleased with. Having worked with many different trades in my own work, being a tradesman myself, I have seen good & bad workers. Seeing the way Nick worked, and the professional way he went about it impressed me. I would definitely recommend his services

I have used Nicolas Roofing and Building Maintenance for a number of jobs, 1. Re tiling the entire roof of my 4-bedroom detached house. 2. Re felting my garage flat roof 3. Re pointing my chimney stack and replacing the tiles around the top. 4. Placing lead around the base of my children’s Wendy House to protect the sides from constant rain damage. 5. Re leading around the base of another existing chimney stack. 6. Digging out and constructing a new concrete base (to exact and detailed size requirements) for an 8x11 foot summer house. For all of the above work he has completed to agreed time scales, some very demanding and to agreed budget. Nicolas has demonstrated a passion for perfection and exacting standards using top quality building materials, he has been very flexible communicating well during each project ensuring he was meeting my requirements, a good example of this was when he changed all the front tiles on my house as I decided I wanted something different to what I had agreed initially. I have recommended Nicolas Roofing and Building Maintenance to a number of people all of whom have been very pleased with his work and approach to a professional standard always working in a tidy environment taking all rubbish with him after cleaning up scrupulously. Nicolas recently carried out a roofing repair for me, including putting right some inferior work carried out by a previous unrelated contractor. I have used Nicolas before and on each occasion the work has been carried out to the highest professional standard, with total commitment to customer satisfaction. There were issues sourcing the tiles, but Nicolas provided regular updates so I was kept informed. After the work was completed, he took the trouble to clean up everywhere, including removing the rubbish left in the loft by the previous contractors! Nick did a first class job, in quite challenging weather. He was great at communication, keeping me informed every step of the way and arrived when he said he would. The roof has been very professionally replaced and I am really delighted. No hesitation in employing Nick again.

Nick came promptly to repair damaged guttering/downpipe on our new house. Despite inclement weather, he also cleared all the gutters for us. We have used Nicholas roofing at our previous house where Nick did extensive repair work to the roof. Very professional standard of workmanship. Nick is polite and very hard working. I have been in the building business all my working life starting as a carpenter working through to site agent on jobs a to a value of 10 million pounds so I know a good trader when I see one. Nick is an excellent roofer right from the point of looking at the job to give a price through to completion. He turned up when he said he would to look at the job gave his opinion on the best way of approaching the work and the best materials to use. He turned up to do the job when agreed. The work was made up of 3 flat roofs to be decked and felted and a complicated extension roof to be tiled etc. All his work was of a high standard completed on time including cleaning up after him self every day. He did all the work on his own working all day every day a very hard worker. We are very pleased with all his work and would have know problem using him again.

Nic has very recently completed a roof repair for us. It’s refreshing in this day and age to find a tradesman so personable and obviously committed to high quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. There were supply problems with tiles because of the lockdown but Nic worked tirelessly on the first day to ensure the roof was watertight in view of heavy rain forecast. He ensured we were kept informed throughout. After the main job was finished, he checked and replaced broken tiles elsewhere on the roof and took great trouble to clean and tidy up. Having seen the quality of his workmanship, Nic was approached for quotes by a number of neighbours.

Found Nic through Which? Trusted Traders, and no regrets! He did a very conscientious, neat and competent job of fitting new soffits, fascias and gutters. We are very pleased with the finished result, and the price was competitive, too. Even when working in the cold and rain, Nic was always polite and helpful, and kept us informed about his comings and goings. And when the job was complete, he tidied everything up very thoroughly. Can't imagine you would be disappointed if you get Nic on the case!

Mr. Dunn has built an absolutely great car port for me. He completed it in two days at a very reasonable price. It is th envy of our neighbours & family. Cannot thank him enough for his hard work & would recommend him to anyone.

Had our half of two chimneys repointed and repaired. Bricks were replaced with matching ones and it is clear that care and attention was given to the work. Nic cleared up and took away the resultant debris and cleared the guttering out. Overall a high quality, friendly and professional service. I'd be happy to recommend.

Nicholas did a very thorough job on re-felting the flat roof of our extension, replacing soffit boards, repairing gutter and painting the eves. He is very friendly and polite. He discussed the job before submitting his estimate and is very knowledgeable, experienced honest and trustworthy. We would have no hesitation in using him again.

After phoning Nicolas, he came round promptly and emailed a very competitive quote the next day. He is hard-working and professtional and did a great job on a tricky roof. He is very tidy and friendly and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.
