RS Heating and Building Co provide plumbing, central heating and building services in Sheffield and its surrounding areas.

We offer a comprehensive range of domestic services undertaken by proven and competent plumbers, heating engineers, service engineers and building tradesmen, all our work is notified to the relevant authority and certified as appropriate. We provide domestic heating installations, service and repairs, and plumbing of all types, large and small.

As plumbers and heating engineers, we operate primarily within the Sheffield area. We are approved service engineers for Vaillant, Worcester Bosch and Glow-Worm equipment.

Gas Safe Registered, we can install gas heating systems, replace faulty gas boilers together with offering a full repair service.

We also offer a comprehensive building service that means we are able to carry out loft conversions, extensions, garage conversions, new kitchens, complete bathrooms, wet rooms with bathing for the physically disadvantaged a speciality.

Boiler replacement and partial kitchen refurbishment

I needed to replace my central heating boiler, and decided to freshen up my kitchen at the same time (one of the rings on the old hob wasn’t working and the laminate on the worktop was lifting in a couple of places). I had the worktops and hob replaced, and the old ceramic tiles removed and replaced with a smart backboard to match the worktops. The team worked really hard, they were friendly and professional towards me, and it was lovely to witness how they all got on really well together and worked as a team to get the jobs done. From start to finish the company was efficient and attentive, keeping me up to date with delivery and working timescales. I couldn’t be happier with the end result, and thank everyone involved for making this a stress-free experience.

My central heating boiler and central heating pipework needed replacing. Three plumbers and three quotes later, all with differing opinions on what was needed, left me exasperated. Then I asked for a quote from R S Heating. Roger quickly assessed the situation, offered his advice and gave a detailed quote with explanations of the work required. His confidence, that the boiler replacement and the addition of extra pipework would be successfully completed, was music to my ears. Lee and Joe were exceptional. They are experienced, talented, adaptable and extremely hard working. They are a credit to the company. The whole team at R S Heating has an emphasis on communication and customer care. I thoroughly recommend R S Heating.

We found this company by reading these reviews as we needed a new shower installed in our bathroom. Roger, the business owner, was very attentive; checking in with us regularly during the process from initial quote to completion. He also quickly assisted when we had a misunderstanding with the supplier and all was resolved satisfactorily without much input from us. Communication was very good. The work was completed to a high standard and we are pleased with the result. We met a few of the team during the course of the installation and all were polite and respectful of our home, leaving us in a clean and tidy state each day. I would definitely use the company again should the need arise.

Roger and his team have just completed a kitchen installation for us. All the work was completed on schedule and at the agreed price. From start to finish the process was highly professional with clear estimates and pricing, working in conjunction with Howdens who supplied the design and units. All the work done is of high quality delivered by a friendly and team of fitters, electricians and plumbers. In particular, Scott, the kitchen fitter was outstanding in his approach - nothing was too much trouble and clearly explained. All the team came on time and cleared up the inevitable mess minimising disruption. We would recommend this local team to anyone considering similar work.

As someone new to the area I was looking for a reliable heating engineer to check out the boiler in the house I have just bought. Matt from RS Heating arrived right on time and gave my boiler a service and safety check, also adjusted the controls so that I will save on heating the hot water tank. RS has done a brilliant little job for me - an internal alteration involving building, joinery, plumbing and electricity. Roger organised and supervised the whole process with courtesy and respect - and an amazing empathy for my two overenthusiastic dogs. He was extremely helpful at the estimate stage, flexible about dates when things needed to be changed at the last minute, and responsive to every detail as the works progressed. On first meeting Roger for a quote for a new boiler I was struck by his professionalism & the quality of the detailed quote. When I met the team that did the work I was further impressed with how conscientious they were. They were honest at every step as they explained everything to me before I made choices. On the back of this I have had the team back to do work in my bathroom & most recently my kitchen. Roger's quotes are detailed & accurate & any changes were discussed at each stage. I did have a couple of issues, however, Roger was fair & corrected the problems as quickly as possible, even whilst he was abroad on holiday. I cannot recommend Roger & his team highly enough. Very high standard of very thorough work. Wish I could have them all back again! The house is quiet without them & they were a pleasure to have around. So pleased with the finished article & with the advice they supplied. Thank you so much.

Roger quoted to move and replace an old boiler. His explanation of the work needed and options available was clear and reassuring. The friendly fitters arrived on time and worked tirelessly. They were a very competent team and even managed to get the old boiler out of the loft and took it away. They cleaned round when the work was finished and before they left they explained how the new boiler worked. Roger visited on the final day of work to check everything was in order. I really appreciated that personal touch.

Having used the company for a recent boiler replacement and been satisfied with the job, we engaged them for a bathroom renovation (re-flooring with tile; installation of walk-in shower; re-plastering and insulation of walls; creation of cabinet). As before, the company's installers (plumber; joiner; electrician; plasterer; tiler) were all polite, tidy, informative and worked hard, meeting deadlines. The job started on 2/10 and would have finished 2 weeks later. Advice for any customer engaging the company for a similar job is to make sure a detailed specification of all work is agreed in advance. 2 items in our job (floor and specifications of cabinet) were left vague, leading to misunderstanding and a longer job, as well as awkward negotiations with the owner. The job was completed to a good standard, but not all to the level of quality we had hoped for. With the caveat to be clear about all details of a relatively complex job up-front, I would give this trader a qualified recommendation.

Dear Sir I thank you for taking the trouble to post a review however I would like to reply to a few points mentioned. The quotation was our normal 3 page one with each aspect of the job paragraphed. The only point left vague as at the time was the construction of the airing cupboard (cabinet) as it was uncertain what was required. This was left as "to be discussed" and should have included "which could affect the price". Apparently your thoughts were considerably different to mine but after discussion we met your wishes at an agreed price. The other area was the complete lifting of the floor before laying the tiles. I must admit this did take me aback as it had never been mentioned before but once again it was (I thought at the time amicably) settled and the floor was duly lifted. The Bathroom complete renovation was undertaken by all my regular fitters and in a seamless manner with no delays. I was on site daily and was not aware of any substandard workmanship. Your comments have been shown to all concerned who were as surprised as I was. Regards Roger

Work was completed on budget and in a timely fashion by installers who were professional, polite, tidy and took time to clean up after completion. We were kept informed on progress at all times and consulted on any issues. Impressed that the owner of the business checked in during the work as well as at completion to ensure all had gone to plan and we were satisfied. A modest deposit was required up front, with the balance to pay on satisfactory completion. Would certainly recommend for this type of work.

25 year old boiler finally stopped working in January. R S Heating engineer came out that day, fault diagnosed, but in view of repair cost and age of boiler, I decided to have new boiler fitted. Roger came out same day to assess my needs. Roger got written quote to me promptly and the boiler was installed at the weekend. All work completed quickly and efficiently. Follow up visit to check everything ok.

Our 12 year old ch boiler had reached the end of its useful life and condemned during a recent annual service. We contacted R S Heating & Building Co for advice and replacement options. The owner Roger Unwin was quick to respond with a home visit and quotation. We chose a Vaillant condensing boiler which was fitted and commissioned to our satisfaction. The plumbers and electrician that completed the work were considerate and a pleasure to have on our property, clearing up as the work progressed. I would have no hesitation in recommending Roger and his team and look forward to their involvement on a bathroom refurbishment in the near future.

We had our bathroom refurbished from bath to walk in shower and can say from start to finish the service was excellent. The lads were very professional, laying down dust sheets to protect carpets, keeping us informed what was happening and hoovering up at the end of the day. All the fittings we chose were no problem to fit and the end product is great, we can’t find any faults.

This is about the 6th or 7th time we have used Roger and his team. They were originally recommended by our neighbours but we quickly established for ourselves that they are indeed a Trusted Trader. On this occasion we needed a full en -suite replacement. The work involved taking the walls back to stud partition and replacing everything including new electrics and plumbing, shower, plastering tiling etc. Roger coordinated all the different trades who turned up as planned . The finished product is brilliant. We are planning to have a new downstairs bathroom shortly and we will be using Roger and his team again

Rang them Wednesday 2 weeks ago as our boiler had broken down. This company came along by lunchtime the same day. Unfortunately, he had to condemn the boiler., The manager came round later again the same day and arranged to fit us in as soon as possible. They replaced our boiler as well as re-positioning the boiler. He gave us priority due to our age and we couldn't be more thankful.

RS Heating have worked on several projects at our house and on each occasion they have provided excellent service. The most recent work they did for us was reconstructing a wet room in our basement. The original room was built to such a poor standard that it had to be completely decommissioned and started again from scratch. We have effectively paid for the wet room twice, but at least we've ended up with a smart, new room that is fit for purpose, thanks to the outstanding workmanship of Lee and Scott of RS Heating. We will continue to ask Roger and his expert team to undertake building and plumbing work for us, confident that they will always deliver a high quality service with the minimum of disruption.

That's the Which? mediation service's estimate to repair the damage and shoddy/substandard work this company did to my property. No QA process, due diligence, reasonable care or competence throughout. No concept of the terms "straight", "level" and "right angle" Seals full of dirt. Worktops with pencil marks, sealed in! Kitchen units damaged. Mirrors hanging from screw heads, more holes behind than required! Walls so bad they're effectively un-paintable! Floors damaged, cannot be carpeted! Staircases destroyed! Every possible bodge and corner cut, tried to rip me off to fix damage they did to areas they weren't contracted to touch at all. Invoiced for work that wasn't done. Some hidden behind walls. Added £4000 to the bath quote after it was supposed to be completed, with numerous errors and shoddy work still outstanding. “Oh I under quoted!” Tried to blackmail me with a threat of walking away unless I paid "in full", despite the incomplete and shoddy work throughout. I made a formal complaint! Received no response whatsoever, and no letter of deadlock after 28 days. This company did a runner! Leaving the property with serious health, safety, and structural defects! Then the boiler broke down. Installation error! Had to get a competent plumber to fix it. My property is now effectively uninhabitable and unsafe. I have had to move into rented accommodation as a result. This company, is dishonest, shameless, incompetent, and rotten to the core. Avoid at all costs!

Agreed settlement of £22,500 This was a full refurbishment job that normally I would have refused due to the amount of building work that was entailed in a very tight timescale. However, I had recently met a builder, who seemed competent. I had trialled him on small jobs and was satisfied. I was assured he could achieve a professional job in the time allowed. My Foreman, fitters & I all told him of the accruing faults but he was adamant that it was ok and the only way to get the job done on time. Eventually, at a meeting of all concerned, when confronted, he quietly walked off never to be seen again. A considerably amount of time/effort was then spent correcting but it soon became obvious that we were never going to gain satisfaction. Eventually my team refused to work in the house because of the hostile and smoky atmosphere, and ever changing demands. I still tried to resolve matters using specialist tradesmen but you rejected this. You then contacted Which who in turned passed it to an Arbitrator. A Surveyors report was arranged. It was decided that a cash settlement was the best way to settle the dispute. £22,500.00 was agreed and paid within 7 days. I have offered my deep regrets/apologies to you and feel that every effort to correct matters had been made. I assure you that a very bitter lesson has been learnt and that I will never undertake work except with my long-standing fitters who always achieve full customer satisfaction.

Absolutely delighted with the fitting of a new Worcester boiler and column radiators. Being an old Victorian property our house can present significant challenges, not the least of which is the owner! All were met skilfully and with a positive ‘can do’ approach. We received excellent guidance and support from Roger at the beginning of the project which allowed us to make informed choices. Lee and Joe valiantly installed the boiler in the smallest cupboard known to man on one of the hottest days, Joe’s piecing together and pointing of the outside stonework around the flue is amazing.Scott provided the finishing touches with a master class in joinery. Contacted R S Heating and Building for a service for my central heating boiler. In no time at all the engineer found a major problem and condemned the unit as unsafe to use. He reported this to his Boss Roger. Two days later Roger came out to see me with all information on new boilers and various options. I decided to replace like for like, a floor standing unit with bags of power. The next task was to locate this particular model as Covid affecting supply of many things however this was achieved and a date was arranged for installation. The work was carried out over two days with the minimum amount of disruption. The engineers were prompt knowledgeable and respectful of my property. R S Heating is a Family Business and worthy of praise and recommendation.

The over-run on the budget was due to my changing specs on the worktop. The team that carried out the work (Scott, Lee, Bryan, Jim, Darren, Joe) went above and beyond and I trusted them implicitly due to their professionalism. Our boiler died on Sunday, the team assessed it on Monday and replaced it on Thursday and Friday. They never left us overnight without heat or warm water and managed to do their stuff with 4 of us working from home and minimal disruption. As a bonus they detected and resolved a 4 year old installation mistake in the fitting of our old underfloor heating which had rendered it virtually ineffective...fantastic result. I can't comment on cost comparisons as the urgency of the work was more important to me than shopping around, but the charges seemed reasonable for the quality of the equipment and the time spent on installing it.

In early January our central heating boiler packed up and we needed a new one fast. Within 24 hours Roger had visited us, given us a written quote and a date for the work. Our boiler died during the recent spell of extremely cold weather. An engineer came out immediately to try and fix it, but when it was clear it was beyond hope it was replaced within 2 days, for which we were very grateful. We cannot praise the service highly enough. The workmen turned up bang on time, were polite and friendly, and respectful of us and our home, not only in terms of Covid compliance, but also ensuring they kept our living space as warm as possible while they worked. There was no mess left at all. Roger arrived in the afternoon to ensure the work was going to plan. This company goes the extra mile in terms of its customer service and reliability. I have recommended them to friends and family on many occasions and my latest experience with them is typical of their exemplary service.

The work involved taking out an existing bath and replacing it with a shower cubicle and also involved diverting pipework and tiling where the bath was. Roger was brilliant in taking on board what we wanted and making the necessary adjustments to our plans and told us which plumbers merchant to pick our shower from. Grahams Plumbers Merchants were very helpful in directing us to what we wanted. Lee and Scott were excellent workmen, very efficient and extremely tidy. Everything ran like clockwork and all completed within three working days. We would certainly use this company again and would highly recommend them to others.

The project involved joinery, plumbing, central heating, tiling, plastering and electrics. All were carried out efficiently in pleasant, friendly atmosphere. The time taken was longer than expected due to having to wait for parts and the cost was higher because of unforseen drainage rectifications. However, it was after the main part of the work was finished that the good impression grew even more when , around three o'clock on a Friday afternoon a fault occurred with the new toilet- the flushing was continuous and could only be cut off at the mains. I phoned Roger who managed to contact Lee who arrived about four.He eventually found a faulty part but had to go off to find a replacement. The nearest plumber's supplier's could not help so it looked as if the planned party would have to be cancelled. But Roger did not give up and eventually located one and brought it along for Lee to fix the fault. This meant that the celebration could proceed after all thanks to their efforts.

Central Heating System - Repaired!

We asked R.S. Heating to call and see us relating to our central heating system, which had been attended by a company specialising in boiler and central heating annual maintenance. We had experienced a system shut-down. Their plumbers had replaced the main pump but their operatives could not bring our system back into operation after 3 hours, and left. They informed their company that our central heating system had not been installed correctly (in spite of them maintaining the boiler annually for the past 4 years!) and would not proceed until an independent plumber had inspected the system and reported. We contacted R.S. Heating and Matt arrived on 30th April at the time he said he would, checked the system and found that the problem was an air-lock. In one hour he had the 3 radiators upstairs all working and the ones downstairs were starting to heat up. He advised that we leave the boiler running as it may unblock the system. After 2 or 3 days the system was fully working. In summary: Matt from R.S. Heating fixed the problem in an hour where the other 3 plumbers couldn't do it in 2 visits adding up to 5 hours! Fantastic service from R.S. Heating. Many thanks!

The RS Heating team achieved an excellent result in an awkward situation. Our request:- to replace the old bath with the shower over it, the toilet and the wash basin with modern facilities. We did not want to lose the bath and we did not want a wall to be moved to allow more space. Lee, Scott, Darren and other team members worked their way through all the ups and downs of wet rot in floor and ceiling, 20" thick external walls, a rotten wooden lintel and a very confined space. They were always patient, hard working and friendly, with very good attention to detail. They did their best to work steadily through all the unexpected problems found with the property and only had to stay a couple of days longer than planned. In 2017 they fitted the whole house with central heating (13 radiators) and created a wet room out of our other small bathroom and their follow up service has been excellent as well. Their work is not cheap, but it reflects the high quality of design, planning, service and results. This is why we have used them so much.

We've been using RS Heating and Building for over 20 years now, they have done a lot of work for us, all to a very high standard and attention to detail, they are particularly careful to leave the place clean and tidy after work done. The current task was to replace a faulty central heating pump. Things we like about the company: Roger is very friendly, efficient and straightforward, explaining options and making sure that we are happy with work planned. We get a specific time for the work to be done and if something crops up to cause a delay we get a phone call (even if the delay is only about half an hour) so we are never hanging around waiting hopefully for a visit. The staff team are experienced and keen to make a good impression, they work hard to make sure we are completely satisfied.

Roger’s Team did wonders to provide me with a new, no-frills and ‘Safe’ Bathroom. At Roger’s visit, my thoughts on what I wanted were listened to, instant advice offered and a pleasantly surprising Quote presented to me, in person, 1.5 days later. The work was estimated to begin within the following fortnight, but started miraculously just 2 DAYS after I had immediately and happily accepted the quote. All the materials and fixtures were sourced and obtained with breath-taking expediency and the workers arrived promptly as was promised. It was achieved over the next 3 working days. The disruption to the Household was limited, the Team was friendly, knowledgeable and exceedingly Professional. I was delighted with the outcome, but dreadfully embarrassed by the state I had allowed the Bathroom to get into. No more of THAT… because Roger’s Blitzkrieg has given me a facility that deserves more care and attention in future. I cannot help but smile each time I go in and witness the sparkling transformation. NOTE: My end Cost was 1/4 of what others would have charged me, which included work & materials that were totally unnecessary. RSH&B Co., complied with my request, did only what was necessary - and were happy to do so. I've used them a second time, for a very simple non-emergency job of a replacement Shower in. The installation was done in about 90 mins or less. Impossible for ME, easy for the Professionals, and that's what RSHB really are !!

We had a wetroom fitted in November 2016. I would recommend the workmanship to anyone, but communication about the job was poor. We went away for a few days when the work started and as I was walking out of the door, Roger announced a change to the job. On our return, I found a bill for an extra cost, even though we had been given a quotation. We also found that R S Heating had ordered the wrong shower tray - not the one on the plan I drew, and attached to the quote - and Roger wanted us to pay the cost of replacing it. The discussions about price were not a pleasant experience. In hindsight, our absence (which we discussed in advance) contributed to communication problems and I suspect wetrooms aren't R S Heating's speciality. However, my advice is, if you use any trader, get the specification right, get a quotation, if it's a big job, check the work at important stages, and don't let yourself be pressured into changes that you will have to pay for.

On receiving the posting from “Fletch” my first reaction was one of utter incredulity. I would first like to thank “Fletch” for his complementing our workmanship but strongly contest the lack of communication on our part. I was on site every day and ensured the customer was kept informed to all aspects. When the customer was away calls were made to the mobile and messages left but were often unanswered.I agree that the conversations were often not pleasant and one occasion I was abruptly shown the door!A full, three page specification was presented prior to order, detailing what was included including the suggested altered shower tray size.Subsequent alterations were all promptly confirmed in writing.Numerous problems and extra work required were encountered that were not included in our quotation.These were presented to the customer and fully explained, however in name of Goodwill,non were charged for and indeed on completion of the work (Satisfaction note signed)a further discount was given. Considerable letter writing was involved instead of personal discussions on the customer’s insistence. The work was completed on 23.01.17, the invoice was paid in full and all building regulations certification submitted.I have been running a successful heating and plumbing business since 1971 and have become extremely pragmatic when dealing with problems but suddenly being presented with a negative posting, nearly a year after work commenced 16.11.16 would make anyone incredulous.

I first contacted RS Heating when my old boiler broke down in December. The team arrived promptly and got it going again without any pressure to replace. When it failed again I had no hesitation in trusting their recommendation to replace and was impressed with the way Roger explained the various options to me and helped me decide what would be my best option. The team installed a Valiant boiler and went out of their way to minimise disruption to the fixtures and fittings in the kitchen (where the boiler was installed). During the installation there was some accidental water damage but the firm have been exemplary in their response and have repaired the decor to a high standard with no fuss or hassle. It is easy for a firm to provide good customer service when everything is straightforward but particularly impressive when those professional standards are maintained when problems are encountered. Without exception all the team members are friendly, courteous, hard working and knowledgeable. R.S.Heating installed a Worcester-Bosch boiler and new radiators in one week from the initial phone call:comprehensive advice provided by Roger,the boss,quotation and completion of a high standard of work by two very competent,friendly engineers. Engaged to undertake the replacement of a central heating boiler with a combi boiler, together with resisting radiators and building works including joinery (bookcase manufacture and replacement bespoke porch cupboards) and installing a new electric ring main and testing the electricity supply. Other works included tiling and resolving damp penetration. The services were provided in a short time frame to ensure no holdup in decorations and carpet fitting etc. The management of the contract was both personal (by Roger Unwin) and delivered in a professional manner with clear costing and timing documentation. Trades personal were extremely proficient and well qualified, delivering an excellent and friendly service, working well together as a team to ensure time frames were met. Thursday 10.30pm, just had a bath, came down to find water gushing from the central heating boiler. Turned main stop tap off. Following day was told that the repair company retained by Domestic General could not get to us until Monday, despite the fact that we had no water at all. Phoned R S Heating, and on hearing our situation were with us within an hour. They managed to restore cold water to taps and central heating.

R.S Heating , did not solve my problem, cost £1300

Had a leaky shower enclosure. Used them because of which? And cost me over £1300. Still had a leak from door bottom, they returned on numerous occasions and failed to resolve it. Mr. Unwin suggested I use dye to find leaks route which I did. However after over 1 year of this fiasco he refused to do any further work , blaming the door I had bought! He offered to supply and fit a door he would supply. I did not want to spend any more money with RS, eventually another local supplier came and rectified the problem first time of asking. I am going to complain to the APHC. Maybe I was unlucky but - bad job, bad service, problem not solved and £1300 to add insult to injury.

The work installed 12.02.15 involved removing a leaking shower tray and door, repairing the damaged floor and fitting the customers own shower tray / door. To tiling, using the customers own materials, the bottom 2 No. courses of tiles and vertically 2 No. courses wide the original door position. The quote dated 19.11.14, clearly states that no responsibility can be accepted for the customers own materials. The installation was deemed satisfactory and invoiced 20.02.16. On 23.02.15 we attended to a small leak on the right hand side of the shower tray. On 27.02.15 we re-called to reports of a small leak, all appeared satisfactory. A year later on 09.03.16 we re-called and spent considerable time re-sealing the cubicle. On 31.06.16 we re-called to find that the customer had used dye to trace the leak and applied silicone themselves. We then reluctantly informed the customer that the shower door/frame, which had been supplied to us could be at fault and that we could do no more with that equipment We would be willing to fit new, purchased through a recognised Plumbers Merchant. We appeared to part on amicable and understanding terms. The invoice price was £1074.00, inc. vat. and paid on 12.03.15. In conclusion, I am pleased that Mr Speck found a plumber who has solved the problem. Our team are all concerned that this has occurred would sincerely like to know the remedy. Fortunately for us, this is a very rare event as we regularly fit a variety of cubicles with no concerns. We feel that we fitted, what was offered to us, in a professional, accepted practice manner and since made every effort, on numerous visits to rectify the problem before, reluctantly, reaching the conclusion that the door / frame was at fault. We has since issued a letter of apologies for the inconvenience caused.

R.S. Heating & Building Co. have done work for me at my previous address and since moving I have asked them to do jobs here. I am particularly happy about the trouble taken to fit a sink unit into an area where there wasn't one previously. They also replaced a toilet, and also a filling loop to the central heating boiler, both very satisfactorily.

We were impressed with the service provided by R S Heating and Building from the initial survey through to the completion of the work. The team carrying out the task were a pleasure to have in the house, and minimised disruption. Any explanations we required were answered promptly. A couple of problems arose during the work and these were dealt with promptly to our satisfaction.

We had a problem with leaking tiles in a wet room area, together with non functioning underfloor heating. Not the most straightforward job but dealt with swiftly, competently and professionally by Roger Unwin and his team. Whilst we were at it we also had them replace the halogen downlights with LED and fit a new dimmer. Great job, thank you all.

Fantastic response to our urgent request for a new boiler, when or old one "give up the ghost". Mr Unwin came quickly, was easily understandable in his options & arranged an urgent appointment for the fitting. His engineers did a great job & cleaned up well afterwards. A big thank you!!!
