Cancellation fees even before you schedule a installation

I wouldn’t recommend these at all. Some of the issues seem to be common with all installation companies. You go through the process of giving them all the information, you are forced to pay up front, and only then do you get told the installation date. In this case, the installation date was almost a month away. Octopus ended up being cheaper and could be installed within 2 weeks. When I tried to cancel with Smarthomecharge, they stung me with £55 cancellation fee and tried to charge me £15 to collect the charger, even though I hadn’t received it. They charge you if the DNO notification has been sent, but they send the notification before you have any idea of the installation date. I get that I am partially to blame, as the terms and conditions stated this, but it seems very underhanded. Clearly, it's just a way to get money off of people for nothing. It is worth noting that Octopus and others don’t practice such underhanded tactics.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment. We do offer other payment options, including pay monthly. When a customer makes payment, the charger and materials are dispatched next day so a high percentage value of the goods are received shortly after payment. The installation date provided was around three weeks after payment, which with the Christmas period and public holidays, is a reasonable lead time. Regarding the cancellation fee, this is to cover reasonable costs for any work completed up to the installation, such as the survey, installation assessment, and DNO notification. This is made very clear on the quote page before you pay. If cancellation is made before we complete these significant works, then a full refund would be offered. In your case, you had cancelled after these works were done and after you had accepted your appointment date. I note in your review you suggest other companies don't have terms such as these, including Octopus Energy. This is incorrect and in fact Octopus have extremely similar terms for their EV charger customers, including reserving the right to charge reasonable costs when a customer cancels. https://octopus.energy/services/ev-installation-terms-and-conditions/ I understand your wish to cancel if a competitor has offered an earlier date, but given the work we had already completed up to that point it is completely reasonable for a business to charge a cancellation fee to cover this. Plenty of info on the website which made choosing and ordering a charger really simple. The installation date was promptly arranged and everything went smoothly, with plenty of information and guidance on the process. The engineer who installed the unit was friendly and helpful - the whole process was handled well.

Excellent customer experience from start to finish - the requested on-site photos and video prior to installation are a great idea. Communication was spot-on, right down to providing a map of the installers whereabouts on the day. Andrew was on time, friendly and did a professional and tidy job. Highly recommended, very happy with the whole process!

From the first contact via internet to the installation everything was a breeze and all completed from start to finish within a week. On installation day Khan the installer arrived before allotted time and kept me informed on the status of the installation throughout. At the end of the installation he setup the phone app and completed a full demo on how the Easiee One charger and its support app works. 5 stars to Khan and Smart home charge.

I did quite a bit of market research on EV chargers and the installation options. I wanted to make sure I had the right charger for my car, good customer service and good value for money. I visited many websites and read many reviews and watched lots of YouTube videos. The amount of information was bewildering and it was difficult to know where to go for the best solution. However, Smart Home Charge kept coming up as a highly rated provider. The Smart Home Charge website was really helpful in helping me to choose the right charger for me. The level of information on the website is excellent and very easy to navigate through the options. Once I had selected the Ohme ePod and pressed the button to purchase, the communication from Smart Home Charge and the ease of processing the order was very good. They kept me informed through all the stages of the DNO notification and let me know what to expect. The installation itself followed within a couple of weeks, which was completed without a hitch. I was completely satisfied with Smart Home Charge and would highly recommend them to others.

Box of materials arrived in advance so no problem on the day. Engineer arrived on time, communicated very well on what I wanted, completed the installation neatly and competently, got me going on the app - by the time he left the car was charging at full bore. What's not to like!

Firstly, Smart Home Charge (SMH) use local firms for the installs, so this review will be in two parts. Contacted SMH via their website having looked at their charger options. Was able to provide the information they needed easily through various prompts, including a walk through video of the location and through to the consumer unit. All very easy to do. Initial quote didn't include a voucher we'd applied for some reason, but was able to email them back and that was then applied. Couldn't make the initial date they suggested for install, which was within a week of ordering, but was easy to ring and change to a new date. A large box arrived a few days later. On the day of the install, got a call to say the installer's van had broken down. Annoying but one of those things and they offered to do the install the following day which we couldn't do but they were easy to communicate with to sort a new date. For the install, was contacted by the local firm who were doing it to confirm on the day. When the engineer arrived, he asked about the items that had been delivered as he was concerned there wouldn't be an additional box and he'd need to go and get one, but it had been provided in the parcel from SMH. Engineer was polite and tidy and explained how everything worked when he finished. All in all, the whole process was very easy and efficient. Definitely recommended.

We have had contact with many people at Smart Home Charge and all have been very good to deal with (at around the same time we had dealt with others doing equivalent work who we clearly thought we could not trust). Charlie, who was the electrician who came to do the work, is one of the very best people who have ever done work in our house. His manner was exceptionally pleasant and his work was very neat and he showed great care with everything he did. We would be very pleased to have Charlie do more work for us. Charlie was punctual.

Won't honour quotation, failed to collect charger, won't refund my money
I placed an order via the Ohme website. They asked me to complete an online survey, and then gave me a quote for £1,453.20, including £253.20 of additional works. I accepted the quote and paid them the money. The charger was delivered, and I phoned them to see when I could expect the install. They then asked if I had got the trench dug yet. The quotation I had accepted said nothing about that requirement, and I was relying on the Ohme website, which promises "All-in-one package” and "We take care of everything, so that you don’t have to”. So of course I said that I wasn’t prepared to go ahead if they weren’t prepared to do the work they’d quoted for, and to collect the charger that had been delivered. They booked DPD Local , and I waited in for the collection, which never came — instead the DPD tracking said "Your collection did not take place as the Pickup Point was closed”. Having gone to some inconvenience to let them recover a charger that should never have been delivered to me in the first place, I am not prepared to do so again. I am more than willing to make the charger available for collection, at a specific pre-arranged time that is convenient for me, or at their risk to leave it outside on the day of collection. Meanwhile, they still have my money.
