I had a lot of quotes but Smart Home Charge were the cheapest and had lots of good reviews. The ordering, self survey and arranging the installation date were all done online with the minimum of fuss. The installer, Ollie, was friendly and knowledgeable and did a neat and tidy job.

What a fantastic company. Super efficient right from the start. The pre-installation process and the sales team Katherine & Jack in the office were excellent very prompt with their responses, especially as i had a lot of questions. I was kept informed all the way. Installation day came and Syed just continued with with same excellent customer service. He rang me in the morning to give me an expected time of arrival. He arrived on time. He kept me informed during the install, giving me appropriate technical details. He made me aware of an issue with my existing Consumer Unit, and went 'Above & Beyond' to resolve it. The final install looks great and very neat, cleaning up after himself was a bonus. He spent time with me going through the Ohme app and setting everything up so i was ready for my first charge. Great experience having work completed by Smart home charge, without hesitation i would definitely recommend to others.

A simple and straightforward process. I uploaded my survey pictures and video last Saturday and the engineer arrived today to fit my charger. He was very professional. He ran the cable round from my meter to my charger round the inside of a spare ground floor bedroom making a very neat and tidy job. He cleared up after himself leaving no mess. Went through the set up of the app for the charger and tested it by charging my car. Overall an excellent service.

Everything went smoothly from quotation to installation of our EV charger (Simpson & Partners) at home, albeit the initial small glitch regarding the cable not enough with the engineer and rapidly remedied by the office for a return date to install the charger. Jack was excellent at the office, and Andrew the engineer was tidy with his installation work. Smart Home Charge sorted out all the necessary documentation and the staff were all polite, friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend them.

Great experience from start to finish. The pre-installation processes were externally thorough but simple to follow. The charger arrived a few days before the installation was scheduled. Smart Home provided updates on the progress of the order through each step, which included them obtaining installation approval from the Distribution Network Operator (National Power). The installation engineer arrived on time and was extremely professional and polite. He carried out a top quality job after explaining the pro’s and con’s of each of the two possible charger locations. Very pleased with the entire experience and I would highly recommend Smart Home Charge.

Cancellation fees even before you schedule a installation

I wouldn’t recommend these at all. Some of the issues seem to be common with all installation companies. You go through the process of giving them all the information, you are forced to pay up front, and only then do you get told the installation date. In this case, the installation date was almost a month away. Octopus ended up being cheaper and could be installed within 2 weeks. When I tried to cancel with Smarthomecharge, they stung me with £55 cancellation fee and tried to charge me £15 to collect the charger, even though I hadn’t received it. They charge you if the DNO notification has been sent, but they send the notification before you have any idea of the installation date. I get that I am partially to blame, as the terms and conditions stated this, but it seems very underhanded. Clearly, it's just a way to get money off of people for nothing. It is worth noting that Octopus and others don’t practice such underhanded tactics.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment. We do offer other payment options, including pay monthly. When a customer makes payment, the charger and materials are dispatched next day so a high percentage value of the goods are received shortly after payment. The installation date provided was around three weeks after payment, which with the Christmas period and public holidays, is a reasonable lead time. Regarding the cancellation fee, this is to cover reasonable costs for any work completed up to the installation, such as the survey, installation assessment, and DNO notification. This is made very clear on the quote page before you pay. If cancellation is made before we complete these significant works, then a full refund would be offered. In your case, you had cancelled after these works were done and after you had accepted your appointment date. I note in your review you suggest other companies don't have terms such as these, including Octopus Energy. This is incorrect and in fact Octopus have extremely similar terms for their EV charger customers, including reserving the right to charge reasonable costs when a customer cancels. https://octopus.energy/services/ev-installation-terms-and-conditions/ I understand your wish to cancel if a competitor has offered an earlier date, but given the work we had already completed up to that point it is completely reasonable for a business to charge a cancellation fee to cover this. Plenty of info on the website which made choosing and ordering a charger really simple. The installation date was promptly arranged and everything went smoothly, with plenty of information and guidance on the process. The engineer who installed the unit was friendly and helpful - the whole process was handled well.

Excellent customer experience from start to finish - the requested on-site photos and video prior to installation are a great idea. Communication was spot-on, right down to providing a map of the installers whereabouts on the day. Andrew was on time, friendly and did a professional and tidy job. From the first contact via internet to the installation everything was a breeze and all completed from start to finish within a week. On installation day Khan the installer arrived before allotted time and kept me informed on the status of the installation throughout. At the end of the installation he setup the phone app and completed a full demo on how the Easiee One charger and its support app works. 5 stars to Khan and Smart home charge.
